CHAPTER 71: YOUR SON, MY MAN.
Kira was called into her boss’s office the next morning, she wasn’t expecting what she met there. She thought maybe there was new work for her or complaints about the already done words but that would be terrible nevertheless she went in.
Her boss, Mrs. Chimpson was a fifty-year-old who was so passionate about arts, maybe that’s why she was able to get passionate artists to do the work without any complaints from the clients, and this pleased Kira beyond words. Mrs. Chimpson had four children, three were graduates already while the last child was in one of the prestigious universities outside the country.
She was strict but sometimes could compromise when needed. Kira entered and slowly closed the door. A young and vibrant woman was sitting in front of her boss with her legs crossed and her sunglasses sitting majestically on the bridge of her nose.
The woman glanced at Kira immediately and she stepped in and cleared her throat. Kira then looked at her boss, strangely she didn’t dye her hair black because she could still see the faint strands of white.
“Ma’am, you called for me,” Kira spoke up.
“Yes, Kira. Look at the young woman sitting in front of me, do you know her?” Mrs. Chimpson asked. Kira bent to look at the woman who frowned, her facial expression made Kira blink her eyes consecutively. Yeah, they were all the same. Rich for no good attitude.
“I have no idea who she is,” Kira replied.
The woman coughed again, attracting Mrs. Chimpson’s amused look and Kira’s glance.
“Alright, this is Mrs. Elizabeth Gulf. I don’t think I need to explain the rest to you.”
Kira’s mouth formed an ‘O’. So she was related to Richard? But was it his mother or any other person?
“Oh, I see but why was I called here?” Kira inquired and Elizabeth stood up angrily.
“How can you refuse to acknowledge my presence?”
“Uhm…I am lost here, I don’t get it. Why should I acknowledge your presence if you ain’t God or from the royal family, ma’am?” Kira pulled a confused face to back up her words that sounded offensive to Elizabeth. The latter scoffed and looked away quickly with disbelief.
“I can’t believe that my son is attached to a worthless thing like you…”
“That is very rude and disrespectful for you to say, Mrs. Gulf. You can’t just come to my place of work and insult me, you are abusing your freedom of speech and also accusing me.” Kira replied fiercely.
“Have you no shame? You are dating a boy younger than you!”
“So what? Why should I have any shame for that? I mean there is a famous Indian actress that is at least ten years older than her husband and they are married. Point of correction, your son and I are not a thing yet. He is doing the chasing for now.” Kira lifted with her head raised high.
Elizabeth bit her lips and felt like slapping the dummy but she held herself back. She must show her who she was dealing with.
“You are the reason why my son has not been listening to me and proving stubborn to everyone else at home. I can’t believe…”
“Another point of correction, your statement is wrong. Were you not aware that Richard was involved in illegal car racing?” Kira asked with a smirk.
“How is that your problem?!”
“It is my problem because he is your son but at the moment, my man. Were you also aware of how dangerous it was for him and the injury he incurred himself because you all in the family were not willing to help him pursue his dream? He was stabbed. Your son was stabbed and you did absolutely nothing about it. You could only threaten him to focus on his studies, not persuade him and everything is because you want to make him someone you can be proud of but he cannot be proud of his forced achievements.
He found me and I decided to help. I advised him against it and supported him. Can’t you see how hard he is now trying to focus on both his studies and sports in general? That was because I was by his side. He complains about his family, especially you in particular but since you are his mother, I had to look for ways to give him the message of family and love.
Instead of you appreciating my effort, you are accusing me of being shameless. Who exactly is shameless between us? The girl who changed his life or the mother who has been forcing things down his throat without caring about his feelings?” Kira asked finally. There was absolute silence after the whole long lecture as the two women did a staring competition while Mrs. Chimpson watched in awe. This was like a fight between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. It was a brand-new and free Netflix show.
Elizabeth gulped and grabbed her bag, “I don’t care what your motives are, I don’t want to see you near my son. For the sake of a mother and society, to prevent embarrassment for the Gulf family, stay away from Richard. You have no qualifications to be a daughter-in-law of my family in the future.”
“But I have the characteristics and good manners to be one,” Kira answered actively with a smile, Elizabeth scrunched up her face and then glared before leaving.
Immediately she left, Kira’s smiling face turned downwards. She sighed and faced her boss.
“I am sorry for that, ma’am.” She apologized sincerely.
“Kira, you should have a seat. Let’s discuss.” Mrs. Chimpson offered.
Kira pulled the chair and sat down with her palms folded into each other.
“Is this true? You and her son? What is the relationship like?” Mrs. Chimpson questioned.
“It is a bit complicated. I don’t know how I got myself into all these in the first place…I just…things just started in a way that I can’t explain. There was a bit of confusion between us but now it has died down…”
“Do you love him or are you only with him for his money?”
Kira chuckled effortlessly before shaking her head, “Ma’am, you pay me more than any other profession that I have ever been interested in. I am satisfied with my salary so money isn’t something new. It’s been a while since my last break up and before meeting him, I thought about going into another relationship. I do find him attractive in all ramifications but I can’t say if it’s love.”
“What about him? Don’t you think it can be the hormones working?”
“I thought about that and there is an eighty percent chance of it being like that so that’s why I am trying my best not to get so attached to the situation.”
“What if you get attached? Instead, you should stay away from him till he is older enough.” Mrs. Chimpson suggested. At this point, she had a teasing smile on her face as she stared at her employee.
Kira rubbed the back of her neck and looked away anxiously, “I…I can’t do that.” She replied and her boss laughed.
“You are indeed attracted to him. Just be careful, dear. I believe that you are old enough to make your decision but make the ones that will determine your joy.”
“Thank you very much.”
“You don’t have to worry about Elizabeth. She is just being a mother hen, she is nice and lovely. She isn’t a crazy rich fellow. You will get to love her.”
“I have no choice.” Kira chortled and stood up. She bowed a bit and finally excused herself from the office. Before she could settle down, Evelyn’s call came in and she answered.
“Hey, babe…wait, what? Hold on, I will be there soon.”

“Evelyn, don’t you think you are making an irrational decision? Be patient.” Kira advised her. She was a bit confused too about the whole phase.
“I can’t. What if Tom is kidnapped just like the other time? There will be no one to help and I have been trying to reach Raphael but it’s been a total failure. I have to do this.”
“We could report to the cops.”
“You mean the cops? Like really?”
“I don’t know, Evie. You are leaving a life behind here and going back to where you came from.”
“I have no choice, Kira. Raphael is being irresponsible and I have been taking care of my son and myself perfectly fine without any problems like this. Now that such a thing has arrived, he is nowhere to be found just to be a supporter. I am leaving but please, don’t tell him or anyone where we are.
I will come back when things get settled already.”
“What if he truly gets engaged?” Kira suddenly asked and looked at Evelyn who gulped nervously before blinking. She smiled bitterly.
“Then it’s fine. It only means that we were never meant to be.”
“I have a solution for you to reduce the stress of traveling that far.” Kira offered and Evelyn looked at her gratefully.
