Robin was a little speechless, “Is this Mimi Beckett crazy?” He had been so cold to her, yet she kept clinging onto him relentlessly. However, he had to admit, this woman was quite beautiful, her figure was comparable to Elise’s. “Oh well, oh well,” Robin laid down to sleep.
The next day, Robin went out very early. He didn’t bring Jeff with him since Jeff’s large size tended to draw attention. He let Jeff go play by himself while he took the bus to go to a place Dylan Harding had mentioned.
Sitting on the bus, Robin looked out the window. It was a busy morning. He hadn’t taken public transportation for a long time. On the battlefield, he always rode in jeeps, tanks, or helicopters. After coming back, with his status, he always had a private car for transportation. He didn’t like it, as he preferred to keep a low profile, but private cars were definitely faster. Sometimes he was very busy. Experiencing something so ordinary and humble like this was rare.
Just as he was enjoying this brief moment of tranquility, a girl who looked like a college student with her hair in a ponytail got on the bus. She looked very innocent. Behind her, a man in a tailored suit, probably designer brands, also got on. As soon as he boarded, he covered his nose and said, “Kiki, this bus reeks with all kinds of smells. Why do you take this kind of bus? If you date me, I can pick you up and drop you off every day in my Aston Martin. What do you think?”
“Joe Braton, don’t call me so intimately. We’re not close. Kiki makes me nauseous. My name is Kimi Hall, call me by my full name. Also, I didn’t ask you to get on. You can totally get off and take your Aston Martin,” Kimi Hall looked at him in annoyance. She didn’t know where this second generation rich kid popped up from, pestering her every day. It was tiresome. She had rejected him countless times, yet he clung on like a piece of gum. She was helpless.
“How can that be? Wherever you are is where I want to be… Kiki… Watch out… Someone’s stealing…” Joe Braton was speaking when he suddenly grabbed Kimi Hall and spun her around.
Seeing Joe Braton say that, the thief immediately stabbed a small knife towards Joe Braton, “Dare to stop me from stealing, go die!”
“Kiki, run quickly!” Joe Braton instantly pushed Kimi Hall away. The knife plunged into his back.
With a bang, Joe Braton fell to the ground. Blood gushed out, pooling on the floor within seconds. The bus stopped and the thief threatened the driver before escaping, leaving the stunned Kimi Hall standing frozen, staring at Joe Braton bleeding on the ground.
Her eyes instantly reddened. This man had taken a knife for her.
“Joe Braton, are you okay?” Kimi Hall squatted down trembling, looking at the blood-soaked Joe Braton, her eyes brimming red as she asked. She had always thought Joe Braton was a spoiled rich playboy with dozens of girlfriends. She didn’t expect him to be so devoted to sacrifice himself for her. She was touched in that moment.
Lying on the floor pale-faced, Joe Braton looked at Kimi Hall with empty eyes. He reached out with trembling hands and clasped Kimi Hall’s hands with a slap, “Kiki, I really like you.”
“I know, I know,” Kimi Hall nodded crying.
“If I survive this, will you be my girlfriend and be with me?” Joe Braton seemed to be breathing his last.
“Okay, I promise you,” Seeing Joe Braton looking like he was dying, Kimi Hall was so moved that tears streamed down her face as she nodded repeatedly.
Joe Braton’s empty eyes flashed a hint of joy. Success.
Just then, a laugh sounded from the side, “Do people have to act so exaggeratedly to pursue women these days?”
“What do you mean?” Kimi Hall looked up at Robin. Hearing him say it was an act, she was unhappy. This was someone who took a knife for her. How could anyone make wild speculations? She retorted, “You don’t understand, don’t talk nonsense. It’s none of your business.”
“Is that so?” Robin slowly stood up from his seat and walked towards them.
At this moment, panic flashed across Joe Braton’s eyes. He leaned on Kimi Hall and spoke faster, “This guy… must be the thief’s… accomplice, wanting to kill me.”
“Accomplice! Kill you!” Kimi Hall panicked. But she was smart. There were still many people on the bus. She pleaded urgently, “Everyone, brother, sister, uncle, auntie, please help my friend, please, I’m begging you!”
“Don’t worry, we didn’t manage to stop the thief earlier, but we’ll stop this guy,” a middle-aged man stood up. He was afraid earlier so he didn’t come forward, but now moved by Kimi Hall’s tearful plea, he resolutely stood up.
“I’ll help too.”
“Me too.”
Following his lead, the other bus passengers came forward, blocking Joe Braton. Some aunties scolded, “Young man, why so vicious at your age?”
“That’s right, put down your butcher’s knife and become a Buddha, young man. Don’t come closer, or you’ll make a terrible mistake.”
The aunties earnestly tried to dissuade him.
But Robin was like a villain, ignoring advice and walking straight towards them. Some tried to stop Robin, but they were no match. Robin breezed through until only Kimi Hall was left blocking Joe Braton.
“I won’t let you touch him.” Kimi Hall stood with arms spread, eyes fixed on Robin.
“Is that so?” Like a villain, Robin disabled Kimi Hall in two moves, then lazily walked to Joe Braton.
“No!” Kimi Hall cried from the floor.
The bus passengers watched the ruthless thug apprehensively as he approached Joe Braton, then nonchalantly squatted down and reached behind towards the stab wound. Was he going to stab again? Everyone’s hearts sank at the thought.
But then, Robin pulled out the small knife. He showed everyone, pressed it with his fingers, and the blade retracted. He pressed again, and it retracted again. A toy knife!
Everyone was shocked speechless. Robin casually twirled the knife, walked back to his seat, and fell asleep. But he did say, “It’s hard to be a good person these days.”
