“What!”
May was stunned, her face a little pale as she stammered out, “You… you… won’t forgive me… how could you not forgive me… this is impossible… how could you not forgive me.”
She couldn’t quite believe it. Rosey Chambers, of all people, refusing to forgive her.
“Why won’t you forgive me?” May muttered.
“Why should I forgive you?” Rosey Chambers retorted.
At this point, May froze. Right, she had treated Rosey Chambers terribly, hurling insults, betraying her, even stealing her clothes all for a life of luxury, leaving her once good friend in ruins. And yet, she was still begging for forgiveness.
What’s more, she had the audacity to believe that Rosey Chambers should forgive her.
But why should Rosey Chambers forgive her?
“I’m… sorry.” May’s face turned pale as she retreated back to Hanh’s side. She knew, this time, they were truly no longer friends.
“Hmph.” Hanh crossed her arms, seemingly watching a drama unfold. As soon as May returned, she turned on her heel to leave, not wanting to linger a second longer.
But then, Robin’s voice rang out again, “Who said you could leave?”
His voice was domineering.
It stopped Hanh, who was about to make a swift exit as if she hadn’t heard anything, in her tracks.
Finally, Hanh turned back irritably, “What is it? She apologized, didn’t she? What more do you want?”
“The apology was hers to give in the first place. As for you, our bet was for you to apologize, not for someone else to do it for you, wasn’t it, Miss Hanh?” Robin stood beside Rosey Chambers, speaking slowly.
“Ah, Miss Hanh, you’re someone of status here in St. Sunday, aren’t you? You’re not going to pretend the bet never happened in front of all these people, are you?”
“Is this how your family raised you?”
“I thought Miss Hanh was a good person, but it seems I was mistaken.”
The surrounding crowd started chattering, their topic of conversation revolving around Hanh. Some even brought up her past scandals, like the number of boyfriends she’d had in a month, the number of men she’d slept with, and so on.
As the discussion continued, Hanh’s face grew more and more livid.
She had placed this bet to toy with Rosey Chambers.
But now, why, why were the consequences falling on her?
She had actually lost. How could she have lost?
“Hey, kid, name your price. How much do you want to resolve this?” Hanh, her face ashen, demanded.
In her eyes, money could solve anything.
Just like May. Give her money and she’d do anything.
Money was omnipotent.
This time, she intended to solve the issue with money too.
“Money? You want to compare wealth with me?” Robin laughed.
He controlled all of St. Sunday now.
Not to mention his own account, the entire military budget of Eastern Kisia, and the vast Stillwater conglomerates, let alone the fortunes of the Harris and Roach families he’d seized. That was a lot of money.
But Robin didn’t want any of it. He gave it to Evelyn Hall. Some was used for military expenses, and some was used to subsidize children and build orphanages.
After all, the South Province had been invaded by enemies, with many losing their homes and families. Adults could rely on their strength to earn a living, but children couldn’t.
Giving it to Evelyn Hall was the right decision. This woman didn’t have a greedy bone in her body.
Of course, as a price for Evelyn Hall’s complete trust, Robin had crushed the Tiger Gang two days ago. He even delivered their boss, Oliver, to Evelyn Hall to do as she pleased.
So, to Robin, money was no different than paper.
He was rich enough to rival nations.
“Heh, you, with your shabby clothes, want to compare wealth with me? You’re like a frog in a well, ignorant of the vast sky. But, since I lost the bet, here’s five million. A sum you could never earn in your lifetime.” Hanh tossed out a bank card at Robin’s feet, folded her arms, and smirked, expecting to see Robin bend down to pick it up.
She believed Robin would pick it up.
After all, it was five million.
Not a small sum. It was a fortune most ordinary people could never earn in their lifetime.
Quite a few people in the crowd looked at the bank card with greed in their eyes, their breathing becoming heavier. It must be said, Miss Hanh was really rich, casually throwing around five million.
“Who dropped a card?”
However, Robin stepped aside, vacating the space where the card lay.
Immediatelysomeone from the crowd, quick on their feet, snatched it up, “Mine, mine!” Then, they took off running with it.
“Miss Hanh, someone just dropped their card. Luckily, I’m an honest man who doesn’t take what isn’t mine. I let the card return to its rightful owner,” Robin said, smiling.
At this, everyone was dumbfounded.
Could things really turn out like this?
“You… that card…” Hanh was also taken aback.
“What card? The one you mentioned? It has already returned to its owner,” Robin said.
“I…” Hanh was utterly baffled, then felt a pang of loss.
Five million.
She had intended to flaunt her wealth in front of everyone and knock out this rogue man Rosey Chambers had brought with her. But she hadn’t anticipated that he wouldn’t pick up the card.
Not only did he not pick it up, but he also let someone else run off with it.
It hadn’t accomplished anything.
After all, it wasn’t Robin who picked it up.
At that moment, she looked like a fool, blown off course by the wind.
“Miss, shall we continue?” Robin asked, raising an eyebrow.
At this, Hanh’s face darkened again. He wanted more?
However, a second later, Hanh’s face returned to normal and she arrogantly said, “A mere five million is nothing to fuss about. Robin, if you’re not interested in five million, I’ll offer you twenty million, how about that? But I won’t give you a bank card, I’ll transfer it to you.”
This time, she had learned her lesson.
She wouldn’t throw out a bank card again.
To avoid having it stolen by someone else.
Moreover, she was going all out this time, offering an enormous sum of twenty million, four times the previous amount.
This was already extremely high.
She didn’t believe that there was a problem in this world that money couldn’t solve.
Five million couldn’t solve it, then twenty million would.
Twenty million was enough for this man to live a luxurious life in Kisia. She believed that he couldn’t resist this temptation.
However, Robin chuckled, “Twenty million? Are you trying to insult me? To be honest, even twenty billion wouldn’t be enough.”
As soon as these words came out, everyone was shocked.
Twenty billion wasn’t enough.
Everyone was stunned.
What did twenty billion even mean?
“You’re too arrogant. Twenty billion, who do you think you are? The War God of Kisia?” Hanh snapped, her face contorted in anger.
She realized that this man was playing her.
