Chapter 360: Shadow Crew

Book:The Warlord Is Back Published:2024-5-31

“All troops assemble, the target is St. Sunday.”
Whoo!
Whoo!
Whoo!
Horn calls resounded.
This army of 650, 000, was already near St. Sunday. Now, under the policy of encirclement, they began to surround St. Sunday from all directions, forming a dark mass.
However, after the encirclement, there were no other actions, which puzzled people.
But Benson Laydon knew what General Jones was waiting for. A few days earlier, General Jones had sent a messenger with a message: ‘Aston Jones, I need to borrow His Majesty’s Iron Eagles.’
The Iron Eagles, Lord Whiteford’s most elite force, were not soldiers but scouts, responsible for intelligence and assassination. Many people in the South Land didn’t even know about this army.
After all, this was a clandestine army that shunned the light.
But Aston Jones knew about them.
He not only knew about the existence of this army but also knew that these scouts were strong, not inferior to the Shadow Crew.
The reason why Lord Whiteford was able to achieve his current status was largely due to the Iron Eagles. To deal with Eastern Kisia’s top scouts, the Shadow Crew, regular soldiers weren’t enough; they had to use the Iron Eagles.
If they couldn’t even gather intelligence, they would be leading blindly, and there would be no need for a battle. Defeat would be certain.
However, they were waiting now for another reason.
On the walls of St. Sunday.
“They’re here, the day has finally come. But the sight of them is quite intimidating. I’ve heard there are over a million of them. If they storm the city, they can probably break in,” a new soldier said, looking outside with some trepidation.
Several other new soldiers nodded in fear.
They were all in their early twenties, and even though they were full of youthful vigor, they were frightened by this scene. After all, the South Land army was said to be a million strong.
“Pfft.”
However, an old soldier among them patted their shoulders, a scornful look on his face. “Newbies, do you really believe they have a million? That’s nonsense. The total South Land army doesn’t even have a million. They’re just bluffing to scare you. Don’t be afraid. Let me tell you, when I was in Eastern Kisia, a few thousand of us took on tens of thousands, and we still won in the end.”
This old soldier was recounting his past glory.
He was originally from Eastern Kisia.
Over the years, following the war god in battles north and south, he had developed a sense of pride typical of Eastern Kisia people.
As he spoke, the new soldiers were captivated, admiring him immensely.
After all, most of his stories were true, not made up.
“But while Eastern Kisia is formidable, South Border isn’t bad either. They’ve held this border for so many years. If it weren’t for the betrayal of the Harding clan, they would not have been able to break through South Land.”
The old soldier’s face turned dark when he mentioned the Harding clan.
Soldiers hated traitors the most, especially those who betrayed their country.
“If we ever encounter them, we’ll exterminate the Harding clan one day.”
“Yes, exterminate the Harding clan.”
“We will not only exterminate the Harding clan, but the war god also said that he will lead us to Lord Whiteford. When that time comes, I will avenge the people of my South Land.”
Several young men with a sense of righteousness shouted in unison.
“What’s your name?”
Someone asked from behind.
“What, don’t believe me? I’m telling you, I will follow the war god to Lord Whiteford. My name is Harry Smith, and I… Oh my… War god!”
Harry Smith declared with great fervor.
But when he turned around, he was stunned.
Because behind him stood the war god of Kisia, Robin.
Everyone quickly saluted.
“You said, you want to make it to Lord Whiteford?”
Robin ignored them, his dark eyes focused on Harry Smith.
“Yes.”
Harry Smith swallowed nervously, somewhat intimidated, but for some reason, a surge of determination welled up in his heart. Finally, he gritted his teeth and said, “Yes, I want to make it to Lord Whiteford.”
“Good, I’ll make it happen.”
Robin patted Harry Smith’s shoulder and walked away, saying, “The day I make it to Lord Whiteford, you’ll be my vanguard.”
“Yes, sir.”
Harry Smith’s face turned red with excitement.
“Congratulations, you’ve caught the war god’s eye. But reaching Lord Whiteford, that must be a joke. We’re just recruits, how could the war god lead us personally?”
People congratulated him, but some also spoke the truth.
“That’s true…”
Harry Smith, initially excited, gradually realized this and chuckled, scratching his head: “What if… what if there is a chance? I’m telling you, when the war god leads me to Lord Whiteford, you guys better not be too envious.”
The new recruits bantered for a while.
The old soldier by their side shook his head. Yes, he also thought that the war god wouldn’t take this bunch of new recruits out. After all, they were fresh recruits, and the main force was the Ghost Wolf Cavalry.
That was the best cavalry in the world.
As for his comforting words, they were just to soothe these new recruits.
“Officer, these people are surrounding us but not attacking.”
Seeing Robin arrive, the soldiers gathered around him.
But it was only Maclean, Jeff Reczek, Reese Daniels, and Theresa Lindsay. Evelyn Hall had taken on the role of city master in the city, responsible for internal affairs, and the Ghost Wolf Cavalry had been dispatched.
So here there were only 110, 000 soldiers, new recruits mixed with old ones. They hadn’t even had time to become well integrated before they were deployed.
“Our new recruits are stationed at the forefront. The enemy can see at a glance that the city is defended by rookies. It seems easy to break through, but in fact, we have more old soldiers than new ones. Once the enemy attacks, the old soldiers will take over, and there won’t be much decrease in combat power. They just don’t want to incur losses for nothing.”
“To break through St. Sunday, the enemy needs at least five times our number, which is 500, 000. South Land has that, but they dare not. They dare not waste their troops here, especially since the Ghost Wolf Cavalry has been sent out. They don’t know when the 100, 000 Ghost Wolf Cavalry will launch an attack.”
“This is why St. Sunday is a strategic location. Whoever holds St. Sunday holds an unbeatable position.”
“However, they can also give up on St. Sunday and attack other places. Then this unbeatable position will quickly become useless. But I’m here, just like now. I show up to assure them of my presence.”
“As long as I’m here, the South Land army will sense danger, and they won’t abandon St. Sunday, nor dare to leave St. Sunday.”
After Robin finished speaking, he headed down towards the city: “The enemy won’t launch a major attack, but they will probe. This is a good time to train the new recruits, Maclean.”
“Yes, sir,” Maclean responded.
Robin descended, looking up. Actually, he still had one thing left unsaid.
If something of greater value than him appeared, then St. Sunday could be abandoned.
However, this thing wouldn’t appear for several more days.
