“We can’t break out, I can only atone with my death.” Maclean Lyons wasn’t a fool, but he had been too hasty this time. So, he made a mistake. He wanted to commit suicide to apologize. But just then, one of the adjutants came forward, “General, there’s a breach in the enemy’s formation. We can break out towards the northeast!”
“What! We can break out? Then give my order, all the troops, head northeast,” Maclean Lyons, his eyes bloodshot, ordered.
He could die; he wasn’t afraid of death. However, there were still so many troops remaining. They were the army of South Land. He couldn’t just throw them away; he needed to bring this army back. Suddenly, the remaining forces charged towards the northeast, forcibly creating a gap.
They thought they had forced their way through. But later, they discovered the problem. “General, there’s a cliff ahead, and highlands on both sides. We can’t escape,” an adjutant discovered the terrain ahead and his face drastically changed.
“Damn it, turn back, form up, and fight them.” Maclean Lyons roared. Later on, the remnants of his army turned around to prepare for the fight. However, the Ghost Wolf Cavalry didn’t approach. Instead, they occupied three sides and just surrounded them without making any moves.
“They want to use us as bait. Damn it, we shouldn’t have tried to break out. How many troops do we have left?” Maclean Lyons immediately said.
“Over thirty thousand… stragglers,” the adjutant reported.
“Over thirty thousand.”
Maclean Lyons’ face turned deathly pale. Out of hundred thousand troops, only little over thirty thousand remained, and they were all stragglers. If the Ghost Wolf Cavalry hadn’t intentionally left a gap, they might not even have these thirty thousand. However, he would rather they hadn’t left that gap.
“I’ve been tricked again!” Maclean Lyons roared.
He had studied military strategies since he was a child and always thought he was as good as Aston Jones. If he had taken the path of a warrior, he could have been a famous general. However, he didn’t expect such a huge difference when dealing with the Kisia War God, like being toyed with in the palm of a hand.
The thirty thousand troops were no longer an aid but a burden, a huge burden. He could die. But if these thirty thousand troops aren’t rescued, South Land’s military spirit would be shaken, reputation lost, and it would be a devastating blow!
“Also, that Rocco Lewis, plotted against me. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have been so hasty.” Maclean Lyons thought of Rocco Lewis. He came to divide the power, but he wasn’t in such a rush. The reason for his haste was because he was influenced by Rocco Lewis, thinking this was a heaven-sent opportunity. But he didn’t realize it was a trap!
That Rocco Lewis, was really a despicable person. However, he had given orders before he left. If anything happened to him, Rocco Lewis wouldn’t live either. They would die together. But it’s still a loss. He is Lord Lyons, and that Rocco Lewis is just a nobody. What a loss.
On the outskirts of the battlefield, Robin appeared, dressed in a black dragon-patterned golden robe. He had sharp eyebrows, a face carved like a knife, and carried the air of a ruler.
“War God.”
Many Ghost Wolf Cavalry knelt on one knee. This was a military salute. But only the closest ones had the privilege to give it.
“Stand up.”
Robin waved his hand, and these people stood up.
“General, the mission is complete.”
Edward Hart reported to Robin. Robin looked at Edward Hart, who was originally a very young boy. Now, there was a hint of exhaustion in his eyes, and several knife cuts on his face. Tail once said that Edward Hart was even more reckless than he was. This was true, somewhat like Robin in his early days. When they were soldiers, they were the first to attack, fearless and invincible.
“Good.” Robin said.
“General, the Ghost Wolf Cavalry still has over eighty thousand men. Among them, over thirty thousand have surrounded them completely. We deliberately chose this terrain; they can’t escape,” Jeff Reczek reported.
“Finally, they’re trapped.”
Robin also breathed a sigh of relief. This was a scheme, a scheme he used with St. Sunday as the bait, enticing the hundred-thousand-strong army and Lord Lyons. The reason he had them deployed in the east was to confuse the enemy, making them believe he was in the east. In reality, he had already arrived in the west.
He used the name Mr. X, to tell the enemy that he, Robin, the Kisia War God, had arrived in St. Sunday. His goal was to take control of St. Sunday.
St. Sunday was too important for South Land, serving as bait to lure the enemy. Once the enemy discovered the Kisia war god in St. Sunday, they’d feel threatened and send their troops. And it would be a large force.
Robin’s target was Lord Lyons. No one else would have the same impact. After all, he was a prominent figure in South Land, the father-in-law of Lord Whiteford, and the father of South Land’s most beloved concubine.
Robin didn’t kill these people immediately. He chose to trap them instead, waiting for enemy reinforcements. His strategy was to confuse the enemy, keeping them guessing – a path to victory.
As to why he was so sure Lord Lyons would be the one to respond, that was thanks to Rocco Lewis’s efforts.
“The fish has taken the bait. Unfortunately, we’ve lost too many men,” Robin sighed internally, not letting his emotions show. As a great general, he couldn’t let his men see any signs of weakness.
“General, should we rescue that Rocco Lewis lad? He might not survive given his involvement in our plan,” Jeff Reczek suggested. He knew Rocco Lewis, a man with a grand reputation. Rocco Lewis, the romantic playboy.
“I’ve sent someone for her. But… well… I suppose…” Robin’s lips curled into a strange smile.
Then, the news spread that Maclean Lyons’ army of one hundred thousand had been surrounded by the Kisia war god and trapped in the Wolf Den Valley. Within an hour, the news had spread across the entire South Province, as if someone was orchestrating it.
When the news reached St. Sunday, everyone at the auction was stunned.
“Wait, an army of a hundred thousand was wiped out? Isn’t the war god supposed to be consolidating our military power, controlling all of St. Sunday? How could they be fighting a war outside?” A weak voice asked.
“Yeah, I just heard the sounds of battle outside, the Ghost Wolf Cavalry going at it. The roars were terrifying,” another added.
Everyone looked at each other in confusion.
At that moment, someone peered out the window and froze, “Isn’t that my nephew? Shouldn’t he be in college?”
As others looked, more recognitions came. “That’s my son!” “That’s my neighbor!”
Slowly, people realized that the so-called Ghost Wolf Cavalry was a ruse. The young men of the city, full of youthful energy, had been trained to temporarily pose as the Ghost Wolf Cavalry. All this was done to confuse them, to confuse Hue Harding.
Because of this, Hue Harding sent Maclean Lyons a false message, leading Maclean Lyons to believe that the target of the Kisia war god was St. Sunday. This caused him to ignore certain details on the journey and walk into a trap.
With the loss of the hundred thousand-strong army, those clans and factions that still had a fighting chance were left paralyzed, their faces pale. They had planned to defect as soon as Maclean Lyons’ army arrived, but now their chance was gone. One wrong move, and they were out of the game.
