Chapter 284: Plot within a Plot

Book:The Warlord Is Back Published:2024-5-31

Ghost Wolf Iron Cavalry! The world’s number one cavalry troops, who had once defeated the Kosh Empire’s cavalry corps, trampled over a nation, and whose infamy was well-known. In nearby countries, they were known as the nation’s number one madman.
But why were they here? Why?
However, no one would answer his question anymore, as a large military knife pierced through his chest.
“Sir, this is the South Land Army’s Vanguard Squad, and they have been completely wiped out. So far, we have eliminated five squads, totaling 40, 000 men. The enemy still has 110, 000. Do we need to lure in more South Land soldiers?” Maclean Lyons reported to Robin.
“No need. Having lost five squads, even the dim-witted South Land will be on alert. Moreover, there are those from the Temple. Temple’s Dexter Newman knows I’m here. He didn’t say anything earlier because it wasn’t time yet, but now, things might be different.”
Dexter Newman had previously escaped. It was estimated that upon seeing the grand scale of what happened, he had run away directly.
Before, there was no vigilance in the South Land military, and this was due to Temple. Although the Harding family and South Land had joined forces, they were not completely united; each side wanted to gain more. If they had informed the South Land military earlier, their losses might not have been so great.
However, if South Land’s strength were too strong, Temple would be suppressed. When it came time to distribute the benefits, Temple would not get enough. So, a little loss for South Land was beneficial to Temple. But the situation was different now. After several more battles, the South Land vanguard would be wiped out, and they would be driven out without any benefits. Temple would not let that happen.
“Is there anyone left in the South Land troops?” Robin asked.
“Stan Knight, the commander of the South Land vanguard. The Knight family is a prominent local family in South Land, and this Stan Knight is the most experienced and capable fighter in the family. He is Clint Burns’ uncle,” Maclean Lyons replied, handing Robin a dossier.
The South Land vanguard was composed of elite troops, so it was essential to have someone like Stan Knight, a true talent, as their commander. His talent had shown itself from a young age, and by middle age, he had experienced hardships and become mature and steady in his command.
Lord Whiteford had great trust in Stan Knight.
“Interesting. Domestic intelligence agencies have such a high evaluation of him, with almost no shortcomings. He’s both offensive and defensive, experienced, and while he may not have great victories, he won’t suffer great defeats either,” Robin said, hands behind his back.
Robin also liked such characters – steady and not as impulsive as young people.
“Just like you, only younger and more capable,” Robin said, patting Maclean Lyons on the shoulder.
“Hmm…” Maclean Lyons frowned, thinking about how to proceed.
After a while, Maclean Lyons suggested, “Sir, we can secretly infiltrate their ranks while pretending to openly engage them. We can send people behind their lines to create chaos and then break out in one fell swoop.”
“You can think of that, and so can Stan Knight,” Robin shook his head. “To deal with a person like him, you need to attack his heart. Send someone to deliver a message to Stan Knight. I will lead an army in Landfield Valley and fight him to the death.”
“Sir, are you planning to fight him head-on?” Maclean Lyons asked in surprise.
“Head-on? Do you think Stan Knight will come?” Robin countered.
“If it were me, I’d worry about a trap and not come,” Maclean Lyons shook his head. The risk was too great; even with a larger army, he wouldn’t dare to attack recklessly.
“That’s what I’m counting on,” Robin said with a smirk. “We still have 80, 000 cavalry, divided into eight teams. We’ll spread out and head for the rear of the vanguard from both sides, aiming for their Lord Whiteford.”
“Even if he’s mature and steady, he won’t easily attack. But once he discovers that we’re targeting Lord Whiteford, will he remain calm? He’ll come out to stop us, and that’s when we’ll deal with them,” Robin explained.
Military tactics were never rigid; they were ever-changing based on the battlefield.
“Yes, sir,” Maclean Lyons said, following orders.
Half a day later, within the South Land military camp, Stan Knight had taken command of 100, 000 troops. As the highest-ranking officer of the South Land vanguard and a general, he was responsible for the entire force.
“Take a look at this, a message from Primus of Kisia,” Stan Knight said, throwing a letter on the ground.
Stan Knight looked similar to Clint Burns; both were from the same family, with long hair. However, compared to Clint Burns, Stan Knight’s eyes were more cunning and wise, befitting the commander of a 100, 000-strong army.
“Tomorrow, Landfield Valley, let’s a fight to the death.”
Some of the subordinate officers also saw the contents of the battle invitation.
“This Primus of this country actually came to die voluntarily. General Knight, I’m willing to fight him. This time, we must kill this Primus of Kisia for Lord Whiteford,” said a barbarian holding two axes, brandishing them with an imposing air.
“We can’t let this Primus look down on us.”
The remaining officers followed suit, waving their weapons, faces filled with excitement. They were all advocates of offense and war.
On the other hand, some conservative adjutants hurriedly said, “Sir, we must not go to battle. It’s clearly a trap. They don’t attack us, but they arrange a battle in Landfield Valley. It’s not right.”
“Yeah, Landfield Valley does have a suitable canyon for a duel, but that Primus doesn’t seem like such a brainless person. They must have an ambush.”
“It’s just waiting for us.”
Many adjutants shook their heads, finding it suspicious.
“Moreover, even if it’s true, the Primus of that country is said to have a million-strong army. We only have one hundred thousand. Are we really their opponents?”
Another adjutant added.
“A million-strong army is impossible. The country has three major borders to defend. But there’s clearly a problem this time. We now occupy a city and can gradually eat away with it. Why take this risk? Do these people really think we’re all barbarians? That we’d fall for this trick?”
Stan Knight’s eyes flashed with disdain.
So, this was the so-called first Primus of the country: brave but without a plan.
They were in a position of advantage, so why would they leave the city and fall for this so-called ambush?
Foolish people.
However, just then, a scout rushed in with a worried expression. “It’s not good. Our people found a large-scale force bypassing us and heading towards the back. Their target may be Lord Whiteford.”
“Lord Whiteford?”
Stan Knight’s face changed, “How many people do they have?”
“I don’t know, but there are probably hundreds of thousands of them, with banners filling the sky.”
“Not good. We must retreat. We can’t let anything happen to Lord Whiteford.”
Stan Knight immediately ordered, his face solemn.
Now it was apparent that this Landfield Valley was a decoy. Their target was Lord Whiteford; it was indeed a conspiracy. In any case, they couldn’t let anything happen to Lord Whiteford. They had to hold this force at the frontline.
But now that they had found their traces, could they make it in time?
Suddenly, this hundred and ten thousand strong army chased after them!
