Border Town.
This was an ordinary village located in the middle of the South Border. However, on this day, the village was far from peaceful.
“Kill them all!”
A group of cold-eyed men wearing black scarves and wielding scimitars charged into the village. Ruthless and merciless, they slaughtered everyone in their path.
“Fight them!”
The villagers, mostly farmers, united in that moment. Armed with sticks, shovels, and various farming tools, they surged forward, but their opponents were well-trained.
One slash after another.
One by one, they fell in pools of blood.
“Let me out!”
In one of the rooms, an eighteen-year-old youth saw the scene outside, his eyes bloodshot, wanting to rush out, but he was held down by several guards in the room.
“Young Master, you are the only son of our lord. His last wish was for you to leave the South Border alive.” The guards, all soldiers, felt heartbroken as they witnessed the carnage. They were the personal guards of the South Border lord who had been killed in battle after the city was breached. Their final order was to escort his only son out of the South Border.
This vanguard team from South Land had come to hunt them down.
“Bullshit! That old man lost the city gate because he couldn’t hold it. It’s his responsibility. Now he wants to send his son away? Where’s the logic in that? Besides, I’m his son, the son of the South Border’s guardian. How can I just run away? If I run, what will happen to the people of the South Border?” Reese Daniels yelled at the guards.
“Young Master!”
The guards’ faces changed, for the voice was too loud.
As expected, the people outside discovered their location, abandoned the villagers, and headed straight for the courtyard. With a loud bang, a burly man dressed in half a shirt, revealing his muscular body, and brimming with murderous aura, entered.
“Clint Burns.”
The guards’ faces changed further upon seeing this man, who was a well-known fighter in the vanguard team.
“I’ve been discovered. Let me go now.” Reese Daniels struggled, and the guards, having no choice, released him.
However, they stood in front of Reese Daniels and said firmly, “Young Master, you must leave. We’ll hold this guy back. You are the hope of South Border’s revival. We cannot let anything happen to you.”
“Hope my ass. I’m just the son of the South Border lord.” Reese Daniels moved his body a little, then looked at the barbaric-looking Clint Burns, “Since I’m the son of the South Border lord, I can’t leave. My father died in battle, and I can’t disgrace him. Moreover, there are so many civilians outside. I can’t abandon them and save myself.”
Reese Daniels stepped forward, clad in casual clothes, looking neither luxurious nor mature, but his expression was firm.
“Clint Burns, I’ll fight you. Release the villagers,” Reese Daniels said.
“How interesting. You can barely protect yourself, yet you still care for these lowly people. How much profit or usefulness can they bring? However, you are courageous. I accept your challenge.”
“Stop.” At Clint Burns’ command, the South Land soldiers in the field ceased their slaughter. Clint Burns tilted his head slightly, a sinister smile flashing across his lips. “To be honest, I can’t kill someone like the Lord of the South Border, so I’ll kill his son to settle a regret.”
With a light tap of his feet, Clint Burns swung a punch, the air around it faintly echoing with a burst of sound. Reese Daniels watched Clint Burns, his eyes filled with the intent to die, but he refused to give in so easily. His father had taught him never to admit defeat, even in death.
Their fists collided. Reese Daniels felt waves of pain in his hand, but the attack provided him with an opportunity. This time, his strike was a feint, and his other hand moved from an obscure angle, aiming for a vital spot. Seeing that his blow was about to connect, Reese Daniels felt a surge of joy.
However, the next second, Clint Burns sneered, “Did you really think I’d fall for that trick, you wet-behind-the-ears brat? When I was fighting on the battlefield, you might’ve still been suckling.”
“You-” With resentment, Reese Daniels thrust out another kick. But with a dull thud, Clint Burns caught his foot, a shadow of a grin appearing on his face. With a crunch, his foot shattered.
“Ah!” Reese Daniels let out a miserable scream.
“This sound is so pleasing. The son of the Lord of the South Border has been reduced to this funny state. Haha. Boy, you’re making me enjoy this. If you say ‘Long live Lord Whiteford’ right now, maybe I’ll let you go.”
“Lord Whiteford… bullshit!” Reese Daniels’ face turned red as he cursed loudly.
“How dare you!” Infuriated, Clint Burns bent Reese’s arm forcefully. With a loud crack, the bones in his hand shattered completely, snapping in two.
“Ah…” Reese Daniels’ face contorted in agony.
“Young Master.” Seeing this scene, several bodyguards rushed forward, only to be blocked by a group of vanguard soldiers.
“Kid, you still have one hand and one foot. I’ll give you one more chance. Say ‘Long live Lord Whiteford’ right now, or I’ll show you what pain is.” Clint Burns’ face was filled with rage as he grabbed Reese Daniels by the collar and yelled.
“Lord Whiteford…” Reese Daniels opened his bloodshot eyes, spat in Clint Burns’ face, and then laughed miserably. “Lord Whiteford… is nothing but a pile of dog shit!”
“Damn you!” This time, Clint Burns was completely enraged. He readied his hands to tear Reese Daniels apart, but at that moment, a voice rang out from outside.
“Stop!” The word left Clint Burns reeling, his mind dizzy. As he regained his composure, he saw a man leading a group of people in black robes approaching. Reese Daniels had already been dropped at the man’s feet.
“Give him to me!” Clint Burns was still in the throes of anger.
“Jeff Reczek, kill him.” At the command, Jeff Reczek charged forward, his eyes filled with ferocity. “Yes, sir.”
Thud. Thud. Thud. One punch after another forced Clint Burns to retreat, his face changing with fear. This fierce opponent had appeared out of nowhere, and Clint Burns was no match for him. Within a few moves, his internal organs were shaking.
Lying on the ground, Reese Daniels glanced at the man before fainting. However, he muttered under his breath, “We finally had some hope… We finally had some hope…”
