Lands Corporation.
In the president’s office, David sat in the chair while enjoying being the company’s chairman of the board. Although he was still an acting chairman, he could do anything he liked as long as Gordon wasn’t in the company.
He was excited to take the position he had expected for many years.
“Elise Houry is too stupid to win against me. Humph!” David mocked Elise.
Suddenly, Snowy entered the office. “Bad news.”
“What’s up?”
David looked up at her.
“Lucas Corporation has gone bankrupt. Seemingly the Robin-Sophia Group’s chairman of the board did it,” Snowy told him.
“What? Gone bankrupt?”
David gaped at her in disbelief. Lucas Corporation was operating, as usual, the previous night, but it had gone bankrupt.
He found it hard to swallow the news.
Lucas Corporation had been in Stillwater for decades with specific power and networks. How could it go bankrupt so suddenly?”
“The Robin-Sophia Group’s chairman of the board did it? Did they have any grudges against each other? How could he make Lucas Corporation go bankrupt?”
“Beats me.”
Snowy shook her head as she was also confused, wondering why the Robin-Sophia Group had done so.
“Let’s not overthink. It is a grudge between them and has nothing to do with us. Besides, its bankruptcy is good for us. We have the project cooperated with the Robin-Sophia Group. If we operated it well and succeeded in this project, our company would develop rapidly. Isn’t it good for us?”
David immediately foresaw the opportunity in this incident.
Lucas Corporation was one of the top enterprises in Stillwater. After it was bankrupted, its market value and employees needed new opportunities.
Lands Corporation cooperated with the Robin-Sophia Group, so it could become their best choice.
After all, the Robin-Sophia Group’s chairman of the board personally made Lucas Corporation bankrupt. Therefore, people could tell its competence from this incident. David believed that he had a strong backer.
“By the way, Snowy. Can you call Grandpa and Mr. Jordan of the Robin-Sophia Group over? Let’s grasp the chance to discuss everything about the project,” David suggested.
He decided to make specific arrangements today.
He asked Snowy to call Gordon because Gordon was on the same level as Mr. Jordan.
“OK.”
Snowy immediately turned away to make calls.
In the afternoon, a meeting was held in Lands Corporation, and Gordon attended it. He sat in the host’s seat and waited. Shortly after, a man entered the conference room.
“Good day, Mr. Jordan.”
Snowy received him in person. She bowed at him slightly with an attentive smile.
When other people of the Houry family saw Jim, they looked fearful. They had heard that Lucas Corporation had gone bankrupt and realized how influential the Robin-Sophia Group could be.
If their chairman of the board flicked his hand, Lands Corporation would end up the same way.
Therefore, they all tried to fawn at Jim.
Jim was pretty easygoing. He knew Lands Corporation belonged to his boss’ wife, so he kept lowkey when entering the meeting room.
However, after his gaze swept around the room and he failed to find Elise, he frowned.
“Mr. Jordan, here is our project plan and the series of constructions. Please check. If there’s no problem, please sign here. Then we’ll start our job.”
David walked to him with an agreement.
They didn’t start the project in the past few weeks but were preparing for it.
Right then, they had finished the preparation. Once Jim signed the agreement, Lands Corporation could start working officially for the Robin-Sophia Group. In that case, all channels in Stillwater would contact them.
Once again, David thought he had found a strong backer.
However, after he passed the agreement to Jim, the latter didn’t take it over. Instead, he looked around the meeting room.
After three times, he still didn’t see Elise, so he asked, “Isn’t Elise Houry working in your company? She was the one who signed the cooperation contract with me last time. Where is she?”
“Uh… Well…”
David didn’t expect Jim to ask such a question. After returning to his senses, he bowed at Jim and answered, “Elise Houry broke the company’s rules and has been fired. Please rest assured. We have other elites like Elise Houry in our company. Our project will surely be successful.”
“No.”
Flicking his hand, Jim insisted, “Ms. Elise Houry signed the contract with our company last time. None of you did. According to the agreement, I’ll only work with her.”
Others’ expressions changed dramatically.
‘Only work with Elise Houry?’
However, they fired her and kicked her out of the Houry family.
They panicked.
David rolled his eyes, and an idea came across his mind. He suggested, “Mr. Jordan, Elise Houry has made huge mistakes, so we fired her according to our company rules. As for this project, we can give you more profits in the future. How about we only take 30% and let you take 70%? What do you think?”
According to the agreement earlier, Lands Corporation would take 40%. However, since Jim insisted on working with Elise, David thought he wanted more profits.
Therefore, he didn’t mind letting Jim take 10% more.
Even if he did so, David believed Lands Corporation would earn much money.
However, Jim replied, “As I said, I signed the contract with Ms. Elise Houry, so I won’t work with anyone else. We won’t sign any documents if you insist on sending another person.”
“Mr. Jordan, how about we’ll take 20% only? 80% for the Robin-Sophia Group? I believe we’ve shown our sincerity,” David suggested again, gritting his teeth.
“80%? Even if you let me take 100%, I won’t change my mind. I insist on working with Ms. Elise Houry only. It’s requested by our chairman of the board. He loved the bottle of Cruzan 9 Spiced Rum very much.”
Jim curled his lips in scorn and added, “Elise Houry was the one signing the contract with me. Since she’s no longer working here, I’ll terminate our contract. In fact, you broke our agreement first. Please pay the penalty fee ASAP.”
Then he stormed out of the meeting room.
He couldn’t believe those people were so bold to fire Mr. Bailey’s wife. How hateful!
After Jim was gone, the Houry family members exchanged glances with each other. Blood drained from David’s face. He asked a secretary, “Check how much we shall pay the Robin-Sophia Group for the penalty.”
The secretary calculated it immediately. Shortly after, she returned and answered, “Six million dollars, Mr. Houry.”
“Six million dollars!”
David stopped breathing. After taking a deep breath, he asked, “How much is our working capital currently?”
“Four million dollars,” the secretary answered immediately.
Although John Granger had invested 60 million dollars earlier, Lands Corporation was too small to take them all. Therefore, they postponed his investment and planned to take the rest after starting working on the cooperated project.
However, the Robin-Sophia Group refused to continue working with them and had to pay a six-million-dollar penalty.
