Chapter 88

Book:Save Me Mate Published:2024-5-31

Samantha’s POV
I could not hold it in anymore, I was tired of being treated as their weak one. Kay’s father words hurt me like hell, I could see him trying to defend me.
He really tried his best to defend me but then how could he win the argument when his father was right, I was weak and knew almost nothing.
“Maybe I had simply thought that it would be easy to become the Luna,” I said to Cara.
“Nothing is easy.” Cara whimpered and I sniffed back my tears too.
“I was a fool for thinking that we loving each other and being each other’s mate was enough” I replied.
“I….” I heard Kay sigh deeply. He was speechless, he did not know what to say anymore.
“You think we can beat Lauren if we engage in a contest?” I asked Cara.
“If we have enough time to train,” she replied.
“Then we are doing this Cara,” I replied and raised my head.
“I accept the contest,” I said and Kay’s eyes fell upon me in an instant.
“What are you doing Mantha?” He asked in a whisper.
“I said I accept the contest.”
“Good, I see you are quite brave.” his dad said with a nod of his head.
“That’s it, the contest would take place next week, on Kayden’s birthday,” he announced and walked away before anyone could say any other thing.
“A week… We have just a week.” I mumbled to Cara.
“Say goodbye to sleeping, I am never going to let Lauren defeat me,” Cara mumbled, with determination in every one of her words.
“I would be back right now,” Kay said to me and followed his Dad.
“Samantha, I am sorry this has to be happening.” his mom said to me and walked away too.
I sighed and slipped back to the chair in the dining room. A few more tears slid down before I wiped them off hurriedly.
“Hello.” I heard Lauren’s voice.
“Hello Lauren,” I replied, trying to make sure my voice did not break but it did anyways.
“Wow, you are courageous already, calling me by my name,” she replied.
“I would appreciate it if I am left alone,” I mumbled and stood up, turning to exit the dining room.
“Friendly update, sleep more and eat more because no matter how hard you try, you can’t beat me,” she said and I gulped down.
“Friendly update, I would not be going easy on you,” I replied to her even when I knew that my winning would be by almost pure luck.
I walked away before she could say another word. if there was one thing that I know, it was that listening to a funny enemy like Lauren could ruin the confidence that you have built-in yourself.
I went to the maid’s quarters and walked into Cassie’s arms.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, noticing my expression.
“Just hold me in your arms,” I mumbled and she did, patting my back.
“I would be having a contest with Lauren, she is stronger. I don’t think there is much chance for me to win.” I said to Cassie.
“What the heck are you saying? I am going to win.” Cara seethed.
“A contest?…. Listen to me Samantha, you have one edge over her, she thinks that she is strong enough so, during this time, she would not train at all, you just have to train hard, you have to spend all of your time training, okay?” She asked.
“Do you think I can do it?” I asked her.
“I so much believe in you,” she replied and I smiled softly and hugged her.
“Thank you for being the sister I never had,” I said to her.
Kayden’s POV
“Dad, I want you to tell me the real reason why you reject her?” I demanded, walking into his room.
“You sure do know that it is rude to walk into my room without knocking?” He asked and I scoffed.
“You think that is rude? Then what do you think of you telling it right to Mantha’s face that she is weak?” I asked.
“I was simply being honest, it’s a truth that even you know,” he replied.
“You could simply tell me to give her the appropriate training, bring Lauren in as her rival is nothing but being unfair.” I groaned.
“This is how things should be done,” Dad replied and got into bed.
“Young man, I would have my rest now, you may take your leave when you feel like it,” he added and I slapped my forehead.
“This ain’t the time to think of anything, get Mantha to the training immediately,” Jay told me and I returned to the dining room but she was no longer there, there was just Lauren.
“Alpha….” I walked out before she could finish talking.
Mantha must be with Cassie right now. I went over to the maid’s quarters and just as I guessed she was there, in Cassie’s arms.
“Mantha,” I called her name and she stood up, walking to me.
She suddenly ran and hugged me tightly, I hugged her back and buried my face in her neck.
“I want to start training Kay,” she said, pulling back from the hug.
“You are going to start tonight but first I need to know your strength,” I replied to her.
“I am very weak.”
“I don’t mean you, I mean your wolf side, I want to know her capacity,” I replied.
“And how are you going to do that?” She asked and I picked up my phone and sent a message.
“That should be done with the help of a witch,” I replied to her and her eyes lit up with excitement before they were sucked back into sadness.
“Why did you accept the contest?” I asked her.
“I… I just did not want you to be left speechless.”
“You should not have accepted the contest, I would have found a way out,” I said to her.
“You do not believe in me?”
“Of course, I do but a week… A week is too….”
“If you believe in me, just let it be, a week would be enough,” she replied.
“Nice confidence,” I said to her and patted her hair.
I took her back to my room and laid her on my bed.
“There, have a nice rest for now,” I said to her even though I knew a nice rest would be something quite far away from the both of us.
“Thank you.” she thanked me yet again.
“I did nothing, I should apologize for putting you in this.”
“You do not need to apologize, it’s okay, I believe it would all be fine,” I replied.
A knock came on the door and I got up from beside her.
“The witch is here,” I stated, over walking to the door.
I opened the door and let in the witch.
“Good day Alpha Kayden, what exactly do you want me to do?” She asked.
“Check her wolf capacity,” I replied.
“Then I would do that right away,” she replied and walked over to Mantha.
“You have to shapeshift,” she said to Mantha who had already gotten down from the bed.
I watched her shapeshift into that beautiful white wolf that brought a small smile to my sad face.
“I would be outside,” I mumbled and exited the room.
After waiting for several minutes which was definitely too long to check the capacity of a wolf, the door opened and the witch came out.
“How is it?” I asked her.
“Her capacity is great Alpha. She is definitely the daughter of an Alpha or a strong beta, she inherited a whole lot of capacity but then I found out that her capacity had been blocked, it took quite a while for me to unblock it, she would be totally fine and okay now, her capacity is in total use,” she replied while I stood bewildered at her words.
“I would take my leave then.” the witch said and exited the room.
I turned towards the door of my room, my brows creased in confusion.
“The daughter of an Alpha or a strong beta? Blocked capacity?”
There’s definitely more to Mantha.
