CHAPTER NINETY-TWO.
Jamal walked into his bedroom and found Adele seated on the bed, completely lost in thought. He creased his brows and watched her intensely as he went to meet her. He noticed her eyes didn’t blink even for a second.
“Adele.” He calmly calmly and Adele shook as she turned to look at him.
“Hmmm.” She answered in surprise.
“Hmmm?” Jamal asked with creased brows, sitting by her side. “Why were you lost in thought?” He asked, concerned and Adele sighed.
“Well… the thing is, lately, I’ve been thinking about Shannelle.” She told him and he bit his lips.
“What about her?”
“I’m… I’m… just like, you know… after what happened, she’s obviously no longer friends with Danielle and that was her only friend. She must be feeling sad and lonely right now. I would like to talk to her, try to comfort her, but I know she hates me so much, that’s why I don’t want to go near her, but… I still feel like I should do something.”
“Then do it.” Jamal urged her.
“Should I go talk to her?” She asked in shock and he nodded.
“Uh-huh.”
“Nah!” She flatly denied, shaking her head hard. “She’s definitely going to kick me out.”
“Baby.” Jamal held her hands and kissed them. “Both you and Shannelle are very important to me and it bothers me alot that you two don’t see eye to eye…”
“What do you mean by that?” Adele cut him off with a frown. “I don’t have a problem with Shannelle, she’s the one who hates me.”
“Alright… pardon me. Let me correct my statement. It bothers me that Shannelle doesn’t want to get along with you. Look, I’m not saying she doesn’t have to make an effort to try to like you, but, don’t you think you should approach her? Try to talk to her?”
“I’m scared to approach Shannelle. She’s just as quick tempered as her mother.” Adele lamented.
“That is true, but she can’t do anything to you. Baby, I know the power of your words. You talk to me everyday and I know your words impact my everyday life. Sometimes you scare the shit out of my pants, sometimes your words of encouragement are all I need to keep my day going, your dirty words turn me on in bed, your words of advice push me to make better life decisions. There’s power in your words, baby. They are like magic and I want you to use that magic on Shannelle. Now that mother isn’t here and she doesn’t pay them frequent visits, there’s no one to corrupt her mind. This is your chance to penetrate her and make her see reasons to love and accept you. If you wanna go to her, feel free. You have nothing to be worried about.” He preached.
“Sure?” Adele asked, pouting and kissing her hands again.
“One hundred percent sure.”
“Alright then, I’m gonna go check on her. Wish me luck.”
“Good luck baby.” He kissed her passionately before she walked out of the bedroom.
Shannelle’s bedroom was located on the same floor, but on the West Wing, after the living room.
Adele took calm, calculated steps towards her her door and when she got there, she exhaled heavily and knocked.
Moments passed and soon, the door was opened, revealing a very grumpy version of Shannelle.
“What do you want?” She rudely asked.
“To talk.” Adele replied with a tiny voice and Shannelle eyed her from head to toe, her frown not leaving her face for even one minute. Adele stood still before her, waiting patiently for Shannelle to decide whether she’ll let her in or shut the door in her face.
“Come in.” Shannelle invited and stepped away from the door, making ample space for Adele to walk in. Adele’s heart leaped with joy as she stepped into Shannelle’s beautiful bedroom. She had had never been there before. The layout and size was the same as hers and Jamal’s, but the way she had decorated it was completely different. Her bedroom was very colorful as it had babypink as it’s theme color.
“Your bedroom is very beautiful.” She complimented as she looked around, smiling. A very big portrait of the famous American actor, Henry Cavill, A. K. A, Superman was hanging on the wall by her bedside. Adele pointed to it smiling. “You love Henry Cavill?” She asked and Shannelle nodded.
“Yeah. My celebrity crush. I’m dying to meet him someday. I will, I know I will!” She said with a confident nod and Adele smiled even wider.
“You sure will.”
“So, what are you here to talk about?” Shannelle questioned as she flung her arms over breasts and gave Adele a queer look from a distance.
“Well…I just wanted to know how you are feeling. I mean, after all what you’ve been through in the hands Henry and Danielle. Are you alright?” She asked concerned and Shannelle chuckled.
“Wait… are you here because you are feeling guilty that your ex-boyfriend tried to rape me?” Shannelle asked amused.
“I’m here because I’m worried about you, Shannelle. And yes, I’m also here because I’m one of the reasons why you had to go through all of that. Henry got mad at Jamal for separating us back then in college and he wanted to get back at Jamal, but he couldn’t because of how powerful he is, so he decided to target you instead. I’m worried…”
“Wait…” Shannelle cut her off. “What did you just say? Jamal caused your break up with Henry in college?”
“Yeah. I don’t know how he found out about my relationship with Henry, but for some reason, he didn’t want us to be together so he offered Henry money to leave me and he gladly took it and broke up with me. I only found out the day Jamal and I went to see Hery in prison.”
“Wow! Interesting!” Shannelle exclaimed as she clapped her hands.
“But that’s not the point here, Shannelle. He was wrong to try doing that to you. And for Danielle, that was very bad of her.”
“I know that Adele. I know what Danielle did was bad, I know what Henry did was wrong. I know that already! You can leave now if you don’t have anything else to say.”
“Why do you hate me so much?” Adele finally posed the question and Shannelle was taken aback.
That was the third time she was being asked that question and she still had no answer for it.
“No reason.” She shrugged. “I just don’t like you.”
“Is that even ethical? To despise somone so much for absolutely no reason?” Adele asked and Shannelle just shrugged. “You do know that you are going to get married someday, right?”
“I know that.”
“How would you feel if you meet a sister-in-law who hates you for absolutely no reason?” Adele asked keenly and Shannelle went speechless. “Shannelle…”
“Why are you back in my brother’s life? To get revenge, right?” Shannelle asked abd Adele was completely taken aback.
“What? No, of course not!”
“Don’t you dare deny it. What normal woman in her right senses will accept a man who hurt her so much back into her life without an ulterior motive? You back to get your revenge against him aren’t you?” Shannelle fired and Adele was dumbfounded.
“Shannelle, what are you talking about?” She asked in a whisper.
“I need you to tell me the truth now, why are you back in my brother’s life? Are you here to bring him down? Are you here to avenge the child he made you lose? Are you here to bring down this entire family?” She asked, inching closer to Adele daringly.
“Shannelle, stop talking nonsense! I’m not here for any revenge and for the matter of the child I lost, I already forgave Jamal. I am here because I love him and I want us to start over. He asked for another chance to make things right and I gave him that chance. I’m not here to bring him down in any way.”
“I don’t believe you. If you accepted him back after all what he did to you after all the bad treatment you received from him and mum, including me, it means you are really desperate to be his wife. It means you are indeed a gold digger, because a woman with dignity, will never accept such a man back into her life. If you aren’t here for revenge, then you’re just here for his money!” She accused firmly and Adele felt tears stinging in her eyes.
A stubborn one rolled down her left cheek and she quickly wiped them away, giving Shannelle a fierce look.
“Please stop wiping away the crocodile tears, just let them keep flowing!” Shannelle further provoked her and she swallowed dryly as she prepared to spill her mind to her.
“Shannelle, you should be grateful that you have such an easy life and that you don’t get married into a family like yours. I used to think your brother was heartless and insensitive, but I was wrong, he’s not, you are. And to top it all, you are a spoiled brat. I didn’t come back for revenge, did I come back for your brother’s money, I’m back because I love him and he loves me and we have chosen to forget the past and move on with our marriage. I am back because of love, something that cruel heart of yours will never know. Something you will never get to experience if you don’t change this rotten attitude of yours. I came here thinking I could comfort you, but now I feel like you kind of deserved what happened to you. Right now you might be thinking that Danielle is the worst person on earth, but I’ve got news for you, you are no different from her. You two are the same. Spoiled brats. That’s what you are.”
“How dare you…” Shannelle started to protest, but Adele held her hand up towards her face, signalling her to shut up.
“I don’t want to hear it.” Then she left the bedroom, feeling elated because she had aired her mind to Shannelle.
She made up her mind not to condone with her shitty attitude anymore. She was going to give it to Shannelle hot anytime she stopped on her toes.
