“What happened?”
Jacob’s voice was trembling.
Looking at Samuel’s expression, Jacob suddenly grabbed his hand and asked nervously, “Did it have anything to do with Olivia?”
“Let me ask you a question — will you not care about Olivia’s life and death for your baby?”
As soon as Samuel finished asking, Jacob suddenly became excited.
“How could it be?”
“If you were asked to choose between the baby and Olivia’s life and death, which one would you choose?”
Jacob was in dilemma after hearing the question.
His obsession and persistence with children were beyond everyone’s imagination. However, he also loved Olivia truly, which couldn’t be denied.
Hence, Jacob frowned deeply. He asked while looking bitterly, “Do I have to make a choice? Can’t I choose both options?”
“There are a lot of things in this world that you can’t choose both options. Jacob, don’t be so greedy.”
Heaving a sigh, Samuel patted on his shoulder and whispered, “After Olivia went back to Country F with Nicole, Davon checked her up. Olivia was drugged by chronic toxicity. She has started coughing blood. The hospital couldn’t diagnosis what kind of poison it was. No one knows how long she could live on.”
After finishing his words, Samuel lifted his foot and walked away.
He had told Jacob whatever he ought to. It would be Jacob’s decision to make the choice.
Jacob felt as if he was struck by the lightning. He stood motionlessly, and Samuel’s words kept reechoing in his mind.
“Olivia was drugged by chronic toxicity. She has started coughing blood.”
Those words were like a magic spell, reechoing in his ears again and again.
Suddenly, Jacob thought that he himself was absolutely a jerk.
He had done wrong to Olivia when he wanted to have a baby. He also knew that Olivia had suffered a lot of grievances because of it. He also wanted to help her and punish the wicked, but he just wanted to punish Julissa after the baby would be born. He had never expected that Olivia was dying.
The lively and worry-free Olivia was dying.
He denied it inwardly.
He couldn’t believe it at all.
Like a lunatic, Jacob ran to catch up with Samuel and blocked his way.
“Mr. Green, you lied to me, didn’t you?”
Samuel’s eyes were darkened. He said indifferently, “Why would I lie to you? Any benefit for me?”
Of course not.
What Jacob had owned now was given by Samuel. Although he also worked hard, Samuel’s help made him save at least twenty years of hard work.
He knew how much Samuel treasured their friendship. Besides, they used to be colleagues in the army who had experienced life and death together. For the sake of this, he didn’t believe that Samuel would joke with him on this matter.
Jacob realized that the news was true.
Instantly, he felt everything was burning in his body. Suddenly, a stream of blood surged to his throat off-guard. He sprayed a mouthful of blood, startling Samuel.
“What’s wrong with you? How many ups and downs have you experienced? How can you be defeated by just a piece of news?”
Jacob’s face was horribly pale. Tears well up in his eyes.
“Mr. Green, I didn’t fear any ups and downs, because I was alone and worry-free. However, right now, I’m Olivia’s husband. I have a wife and she has been poisoned and coughing blood. However, I heard such news from you only. I’m indeed a jerk! I’m a scumbag!”
Jacob slapped himself across his face. He used so much strength that his cheek went reddish and swollen.
“How could I be so ridiculous? For just a baby, I’ve ruined my happy family. What on earth has happened to me?”
In front of life and death, Jacob suddenly felt that his obsession and persistence with children was extremely ridiculous and ironic.
“Mr. Green, if Olivia passed away truly, I wouldn’t be able to live on either. It was me who has damaged my family and my marriage. I know it’s too late for Olivia to forgive me. I just can’t understand why I have been so obsessed?”
Jacob failed to hold back his tears any longer.
As long as he imagine how Olivia coughed blood. the lively woman would lose her body temperature one day, and she was lying stiffly on the bed, Jacob felt a chill inside out. His heart seemed to be pinched fiercely by someone, who kept rubbing, squeezing, and tearing it. The pain almost strangled him.
He used to complain to Olivia for leaving him alone at home because she pursued her career and for that, she couldn’t be considerate of him. However, at this moment, all of his complaints vanished. Only endless regret and sharp pangs were left.
Seeing Jacob like this, Samuel almost wanted to tell him the truth, but thinking about his obsession and persistence, Samuel held it back.
Once a man had walked to the dead end, he couldn’t be pulled back no matter what others said. He could only save himself unless he had woken up and realized something.
Olivia was the untouchable rock bottom in Jacob’s heart. As long as Olivia was alive, he didn’t think it would matter for her to suffer some grievances. He always believed that he would help her vent her anger later. However, Olivia was dying and those grievances would be buried with her in the near future. Even if Jacob would have a baby of his own and avenge her, what would be the use of it?
In the future, Olivia wouldn’t be able to whisper to him with a smile, “Honey, you are the best.”
Samuel pulled out his cell phone, found a video clip, and sent it to Jacob.
“I hacked into the cameras nearby the filming set and found these video clips. Take a look.”
Samuel didn’t think he could continue staying here. If he continued being with Jacob, he was afraid that he couldn’t have the heart to see him suffer so much.
After all, Jacob had been worked for him for so many years. He couldn’t have the heart to let him continue being so obsessed and persistent and head towards the dead end.
Samuel knew how much Jacob loved Olivia. As long as there was a possibility to save their relationship, Samuel still selfishly hoped that his best friend could be happy. Although Nicole might not be happy with him, sometimes, he truly couldn’t satisfy both parties.
After all, Jacob was the only best friend he had now.
Samuel was gone. Jacob immediately tabbed to watch the video clips.
The first one was the scene when the assistant he hired for Olivia met Julissa.
Julissa handed a bag of tonics to the assistant. He couldn’t hear what she said clearly. However, Jacob judged from the assistant’s horrified eyes and thought that Olivia was drugged, his eyes darkened.
The second one was that the assistant took back the tonics. Olivia was taking a rest after shooting a scene. The assistant made the tonics and served them to Olivia. Her eyes twinkled and her hands also slightly trembled in guilty.
The third one was when Olivia fell off the wire, the assistant waved towards the backstage. No one on the scene had noticed it. After zoom in on the video clip, Jacob could see her expression and gestures clearly.
The fourth one was that Olivia violently coughed. Her face went pale. She bent over, looking quite painful. Suddenly, she coughed continuously and then puke mouthful blood. She looked as if she was startled. Staring at it, she suddenly burst into laughter. While laughing, she gradually turned to weep while squatting there.
Watching the scene, Jacob almost collapsed. A murderous look suddenly shot out from his reddish eyes as if he wished to burn down something.
