At the end of the evening, Vinson’s office was still lit, and Leanne hovered for a while before knocking on the door, “Mr. Gu, are you there?”
“Come in.” Vinson couldn’t contain his excitement at the sound of Leanne’s voice.
“I’m off work, I’ll pick up Hill from Miller’s house later. I picked up a cat and want to give it to him as a playmate, and today, I’ll let him stay at my place for now.”
“Well, Hill would be lonely all by himself, too, and he’d be bored with all of us adults he’d have to deal with all day.” Vinson’s voice could not hide the loss.
“I, then, will go first.”
“Leanne, you, forget it, you go away!”
Leanne could see the longing for care in his eyes, but the thought that the person he loved was dead, and that she was nothing more than an identical fake, made her heart throb.
Miller was preparing dinner with the kids when he drove up to Miller’s house.
“Leanne is here by smell, go wash your hands, it’s time to eat.”
“Mom.”
“Sister.”
Leanne took the two children in her arms and kissed their little cheeks as they swooped in left and right.
Leanne washed her hands while Hill was serving rice, finished a bowl and handed it to Daniel below, who in turn brought it to the table.
“Hill and Tiny Ann are so good.” Leanne stroked their little heads.
“Dinner is served.”
Knowing that Leanne was coming, Miller cooked a large table of dishes. The dry-aged cauliflower was set in front of Leanne, and the sprinkled scallions gave off a fragrant aroma that made people’s fingers tingle.
“Little Anon, I want to discuss something with you.”
“What is it?” It was rare to see Miller swallowing at Leanne, and Leanne was wondering.
“I want to go out on a trip, see if you can watch the kids for a few days.”
“Yo, people who hate to work every day 365 days a year actually want to go on a trip, where to go ah?”
“It’s not like you Gu’s still not sending out new products, and the top can’t decide whether to cooperate with Gu’s or with Mo’s, so why don’t I take advantage of this gap to go out and have some fun, and there’s no goal, so I want to go for a casual stroll.” Miller lied to Leanne for the first time, his heart was about to jump to the table.
“It’s time for you to get some rest, go ahead, the kids were supposed to be with me.”
“Then I’ll depart tomorrow. By the way Leanne, make sure you call me back before the new product launch.”
“I won’t forget, I’ll tell you the day I finalize it.”
Miller is a person who has a plan for everything, so suddenly to travel Leanne felt very strange, but on second thought Miller has paid too much for himself, and will not ask.
The two children still seem to prefer more meat, Leanne gave them vegetables, “Eat more vegetables, vitamins will be sufficient to strengthen the resistance.”
Hill and Daniel look at each other with sad faces, and their cute looks make Leanne and Miller laugh.
After dinner Leanne helps Hill get dressed and Miller dresses Daniel.
“When we get home later, does anyone want to go with me to pick up the new members and take them home?” Leanne asked in a deliberately secretive manner.
“New members?” The two children looked at each other.
“Let’s go, we’ll see when we get there.”
Leanne wanted the kids to bring her home in person, after the vet had called and said that the kitten had been dewormed and shaved.
Hill and Daniel sat in the back seat, chattering about their favorite characters in the cartoon. Miller’s house is close to downtown, and the vet hospital is just a few minutes away.
“Come on, let’s go pick up the new members and take them home.”
The two children’s eyes were wide with excitement and their mouths were open as if they could swallow an egg.
The doctor held out the new kitten, the long gray protruding hair was cut short, although some uneven, but this does not affect its beauty in any way, “It’s a little girl, you have a little sister.”
The two children watched with rapt attention as the doctor put the kitten into the cage.
“Kittens and puppies are different, it is with quiet, with the need for space alone, after arriving home first do not need to put it out, the cage has a urine pad and water bowl, and when it is familiar with the environment, tomorrow morning can be fed.”
Leanne looked at the children with serious faces and felt relieved that, even though they were lonely, they did not become indifferent, “Hill, would you like to carry the cat princess’ castle?”
Hill nodded happily as Daniel looked on next to him.
“Daniel, would you like to be the cat princess’ escort?”
“Willingly willingly.”
Hill carried the cage, Daniel followed with his arms in a semicircle to protect the cage, and Leanne followed behind them. The kitten just has long hair, and after shaving off the messy hair, it looks like a cub that hasn’t grown up yet, like Hill who is eight years old but only a little more than a head taller than Daniel.
Vinson home.
Vinson got the share transfer letter when he got off work, after the wedding Judy signed the word, these hard-earned shares will all go to Carl to send a favor, Vinson felt a huge sense of frustration, although grandfather had thought of, there is another share to help him keep Gu’s management, but that invisible loss is too big Vinson began to reflect on why Carl had the house title deed in his hand, and why Gu was able to get the entire personnel department to do his bidding with a single phone call. If the department in charge of the company’s personnel deployment is Gu’s remaining party, then how many other shadowy lines are there in the company, and whether they have been spread all over the company like termites.
Vinson dared not think further, he was a man who was both here and there, but the rocky road ahead made him anxious. Brewed Darjeeling black tea to warm the stomach, crimson tea broth like blood slowly into the square glass.
Vinson turned on the TV in a rare moment of idleness, casually browsing through the various programs, thinking about Leanne and the kids and what they were doing now.
Leanne arrived home to settle the children and kittens, took a bath to relieve her fatigue, and returned to her bedroom to read Leanne’s diary again to see if she could find any clues about her killer.
Picking up the journal again, the cold touch took Leanne’s breath away.
Once upon a time Leanne was a simple little girl, even things like the noon meal was very good to remember. The first half is probably a record of when she first started working, with heartbreaking stuff like this about her family’s reluctance to pay her living expenses anymore because she was over eighteen, and also descriptions of going with Miller to discover delicious and cheap little stores.
Leanne could sense that she was doing her best to describe a happy her. She rarely mentions Bob and Annie, and even the only description of Judy is “a sister who doesn’t like me.”
