The loud buzzing of Karen’s phone woke her up from her sleep. She had slept late the previous night. She picked up her phone from the nightstand and checked the time. It was few minutes past six am. Who the fuck was disturbing her sleep by this time of the morning!
“It better be something good.” she muttered before opening the message. The message was short from an unsaved contact. It contained an address and direction to the address with a simple text that read “Jack’s location. ” She jumped out of the bed, her heart beat increasing.
She quickly brushed, washed her face and changed into another cloth before placing a call to Harry “Good morning Harry. Please, get the cops on standby. I think I have information on Jack’s whereabouts. I’ll meet you in your house in ten minutes.” She spoke breathlessly without giving him a chance to respond. She dropped the call and kissed Jayden on the forehead before picking him.
She rushed out to her car, put Jayden at the backseat and took the wheels before speeding off. She arrived in Harry’s house few minutes later and stepped out with Jayden who was now awake.
“The inspector, private investigator and the FBI are here. What information do you have.” Harry rushed to her immediately she got inside. True to his words there were about seven men in the room, all dressed in casual outfits.
She walked over to their midst and opened the text message again before handing the phone over to the inspector. “I was woken up by that. Someone sent me that address this morning. It says something about being Jack’s location.” She spoke out.
The inspector looked at the address before passing the phone to the head of the FBI that was there.
“Are you sure about this? This could be a ploy by the same person to get you out there too.” The FBI chief reasoned.
“No. I don’t think so. Damian wouldn’t want to kill me.” she replied, feeling assured. “But, you can check the location to see if it’s real, or try to trace the number, right?” She asked, feeling hopeful.
“We will do that now.” the inspector replied and inputted some numbers into the laptop that was there. After some minutes, he looked up from the laptop, staring from one face to another.
“What is wrong?” Harry asked with concern.
“I can’t trace the number. It bounces my search at every two seconds. As for the address, it’s an abandoned property somewhere at the outskirts of town.” the inspector replied.
“What are we waiting for then? Let’s go.” Karen snatched the phone from the inspector and started moving but was stopped by Harry.
“You can’t go, Miss Smith.” The FBI chief spoke out, walking up to her.
“Why?” She asked, folding her hands across her chest.
“You have to stay home with your baby. We promise we’ll get Mr Jack home safely.” the inspector added. They had already agreed to put her out of the investigation for her own safety, but she was already being too stubborn.
“You are talking bullshit.” She freed herself from Harry’s grip, running to the door. “Are you coming or not?” She shouted from the door. They men looked at each other, looking dejected before walking out of the house.
They all got into their cars, three cars in total. One vat driven by Karen, the second driven by Harry which carried the police and FBI chief and the men of the FBI while the last car carried the cops. Karen followed the map on her car as she drove towards the location. After driving for over thirty minutes, she noticed that she was driving out of town. She looked in the mirror and noticed the others following behind, so she sped on.
“Miss Karen, Please park one hundred metres away from the location.” the police warning sounded inside her car through her phone.
She parked at a safe distance and the other cars drove to a stop beside her. All the men jumped out, fully armed, she was the only one without a gun.
“Is anyone gonna give me a gun or sumn?” she requested.
“No, ma’m. You’ll remain inside the car. We will go in and get Mr Antonio.” One of the cops replied.
“We need a plan to get inside.” Harry stated the obvious. They all agreed and drew out a plan. Karen’s gaze was focused on the building they were to enter. She had sighted a car parked near it, and had been itching to make an entry. She knew jack was somewhere inside there and she wanted to save him.
Before the men could end the discussion, she dashed off towards the building.
Inside the building, Jack’s hands were tied behind his back and were made to kneel down. He wore a fresh cloth that probably belonged to Damian, with no blindfold. His abductor stood over him with a gun in his right hand and a stick of cigarette in his left.
“I told you, I always look at the future. You had one victory and tried to rub it on my face, and look, I’ve got the final victory.” He used the tip of the gun to raise Jack’s face so he was now staring at him. “There is no one to save you now, Mr Antonio.” he boasted.
“I’d be doing the world a favor by getting rid of you, and Karen, an honor. She might not realize this, but in the future, she will.”
Meanwhile, Karen walked quietly in the building as she tried to locate the room where Jack was being held. There were many rooms in the building. All of them were closed but weren’t locked. Luckily, she hadn’t come across any guard so far, making her job even easier. She continued walking, and soon, she heard a voice. She walked quietly, trying to trace the voice and soon arrived at an open room.
She almost screamed as she saw Jack tied up and looking almost dead. Damian held a gun over his head as he continued speaking. She pressed her hand tightly over her mouth and hid in a corner. She sighted a metal on the floor and picked it up. She walked out stealthily into the room, raised the metal and crashed it into left shoulder. He screamed loudly as he fell to the ground, groaning in pain.
She rushed to Jack’s side and pulled him into a hug before turning to untie him.
A gunshot sounded and everything went in slow motion. Jack saw the movement of Damian’s hands far too late. He had already gripped the gun and fired a shot. He pushed Karen away with all his might and she fell to his side. But that wasn’t all. One of them had caught a bullet and he really hoped it was him.
