The next day, when Zhong Shaoting is still in his sleep, the ringing of the phone wakes him up. Picking up the phone, Zhong says impatiently: “You’d better say something important, otherwise…” Then, on the other end of the phone, Song Chen’s lips quiver, “Boss, I think this is very important to you.” “Just get to the point!” Zhong Shaoting sits up from the bed and orders. Hearing his words, Song Chen starts to imagine that if he were not a kind assistant, he would leave this in suspense so as to make Zhong uncomfortable. But back to reality, Song doesn’t have the guts to do this at all, so he has to report honestly: “Boss, Bai Nantian has stopped resisting and has already quit the psychological circle. I am sure he will never return.” What Song Chen has said cheers Zhong Shaoting up greatly: “Well done! As he teased Manman, losing his job is already the lightest punishment for him.”
However, when Ding Manman comes to tell Zhong to go for breakfast, she happens to hear his words, after which Ding realizes that she has again hurt someone unintentionally. Even if Bai Nantian took advantage of his profession to tease her, his nature is actually not bad, maybe it’s just because he’s too young and fun-loving. In this case, the punishment of quitting the psychological circle is too severe. As the call is over, Zhong Shaoting gets himself dressed and goes out of his room. But when he opens the door, he immediately sees Ding Manman who is standing in the doorway, lost in her mind, after which Zhong realizes that Ding has probably heard their conversation, as he was too pleased to notice her arrival after punishing Bai. As expected, Ding Manman feels extremely angry at the sight of Zhong Shaoting, and she questions him: “Why did you do this? Isn’t he your friend?”
Ding’s question takes Zhong by surprise, and then Zhong thinks that he’d better tell her the truth in case his real relationship with Bai Nantian is exposed later, which is worse. So Zhong confesses: “Manman, I want to tell you something. Please forgive me for the sake of my voluntary confession.” Ding Manman doesn’t know how she feels in face of such a Zhong Shaoting who always treats her in the way he thinks is right, but never asks how she feels. After a careful consideration, Ding Manman says: “OK, but this is the only chance for you to confess. You’d better make it clear once for all what you’re hiding from me.” Hearing Ding’s threatening voice, Zhong Shaoting naturally has no courage to conceal anymore. So he explains in a hurry: “It’s nothing serious. To be honest, Bai Nantian is not my friend at all. He’s just the psychologist I found for you.”
Ding Manman feels angrier after Zhong’s explanation: “Zhong Shaoting, you think I have some mental problems?” “No, no, I swear I don’t mean that. Actually, you often had nightmares and looked depressed, but you never talked to me. Therefore, I was really afraid that you might fall ill, so I found a doctor for you.” Zhong Shaoting tries to explain hurriedly with his hands shaking. “Humph, so you took me to see a psychologist who you told me he was your friend? You did such a good job!” Ding Manman is filled with fury. Zhong Shaoting dares not to say anything in such a situation. Like an obedient wife, he just follows Ding and walks back and forth behind her, for fear that Ding will leave with anger. Calming down, Ding Manman knows that this was not all Zhong Shaoting’s fault, as he meant well for her. But Bai Nantian shouldn’t be treated like that, either. During her previous talk with Bai, Ding Manman finds that he is good in nature. So from her perspective, Bai is just like a younger brother to whom she can’t help showing her care.
“Well, do you know where Bai Nantian lives? I want to visit him.” Ding Manman requests. Zhong Shaoting feels very unpleasant about Ding’s request, but he can’t refuse her this time. Being a little jealous, he complains: “I don’t know. He moved after getting into trouble. Even though he teased you like that, you still want to visit him. How merciful!” Darting a look at him, Ding Manman says: “After you leave, I talked with Bai and found him not bad in nature. He did that just for a lark. So I must apologize to Bai for getting him into such a scrape, otherwise I can’t stop feeling guilty.” “Why must you apologize to him? He deserves the punishment!” Nearly losing his temper, Zhong Shaoting shouts at Ding.
“Don’t shout and it won’t work for me! Tell me now where to find Bai Nantian.” Ding Manman gets tough with Zhong. As Ding is still angry, Zhong Shaoting can’t argue without regard for her feelings, so he changes his way: “I don’t know, he moved after being in trouble.” “I won’t believe with your power, you can’t find out where he lives now.” Ding Manman says coldly, in which way she tells Zhong Shaoting that he has failed to hide or delay, so the latter gives in: “Well, I will let Song Chen investigate Bai’s address. You’ll know it soon.” Then, Zhong Shaoting calls Song Chen and gives him the order. Receiving such an order, Song Chen feels a little astonished at first, but he reacts quickly. Realizing that their punishment for Bai Nantian is exposed, Song hurries to investigate where Bai Nantian lives now.
Proving himself to be a top assistant, Song Chen gets Bai’s address soon and reports it to Zhong Shaoting who then passes it to Ding Manman. Making her decision, Ding Manman picks up her things and goes to Bai’s house immediately. Arriving there, Ding Manman is guided to the living room after explaining the purpose of her visit. Looking at the decorations of the Bai’s house, Ding Manman knows that Bai Nantian is absolutely a boy spoiled by his family. No wonder he is so childish! Sitting on the sofa, Ding Manman waits for Bai Nantian quietly. But in the end Bai Beiwang comes alone. “So, you are that Ding Manman. Why do you want to see Xiao Nan?” Bai Beiwang looks Ding Manman up and down.
“I come to make an apology to Bai Nantian. If it weren’t for me, Bai Nantian would not have been subjected to great pressure of public opinion and have consequently quit the psychological circle.” Ding Manman feels very guilty. Hearing Ding’s words, however, Bai Beiwang becomes irritated: “Apology? Do you think an apology is useful? It is you who destroyed his greatest love! Do you know how dispirited he has been since he went home? He has totally drowned himself in liquor!” Hearing her words, Ding Manman feels guiltier as she doesn’t know these at all. She wants to say something else, but is interrupted by Bai Beiwang who gives orders to the servants: “Turn her out of doors. She doesn’t deserve to sit here as the culprit who hurt Xiao Nan. Hurry up! Remember to sterilize the place where she sits. I don’t want her bad luck!” Finally, Ding Manman is mercilessly driven out, after which she becomes more depressed and can’t hold her tears anymore.
