Although the two seem to be reconciled, a barrier arises between Ding Manman who has known the whole truth and Zhong Shaoting. After all, it is impossible to judge a man’s heart from his face. Maybe the true motivation of Zhong is to hurt her more cruelly with false sincerity. If she gives all her heart to Zhong Shaoting, how could she endure the unexpected pain caused by him?
As such, the two maintain an unclear relationship.
Everyday Ding Manman locks herself in the studio, painting randomly. Sometimes she is so busy to forget to eat meals. Meanwhile, Zhong Shaoting brings all his work home so as to keep her company.
Zhong Shaoting feels somewhat distressed while seeing that Ding is too busy to eat. There is little that could be done, because he has promised to her that as long as she is painting in the studio, he cannot disturb her for any reason, or else Ding will ignore him forever. As a result, Zhong Shaoting has nothing to do but to stand back. He doesn’t want the newly eased relationship to turn tense once again.
One night, Ding Manman goes to bed so early, while Zhong Shaoting can’t sleep but keep tossing and turning in bed all night.
He has unintentionally confessed everything to Ding Manman, which made her no longer be so resistant to him. But why does she keep in very melancholy spirits all day? Zhong Shaoting is thinking as he lies in bed.
Suddenly, there is a scream that sounds especially like Ding Manman’s. Without saying a word, Zhong Shaoting gets up immediately and runs to Ding’s room, only to see Ding curl up under the blanket, like a newborn baby insecurely protecting herself and talking in her sleep.
Zhong Shaoting approaches his ears to her to hear what she is saying, “Please, please let me go, I don’t want, and I don’t want you to come close to me! Why are you doing this to me?”
Hearing these words, Zhong Shaoting gets so upset and worried. He doesn’t know what Ding Manman is dreaming about and why is she full of defensiveness even in deepest sleep. Is she defending him? Zhong Shaoting has no idea and is afraid to know the truth. As long as she doesn’t let go of what is on her mind, she will still keep in low spirits everyday.
After comforting Ding Manman to sleep, Zhong Shaoting returns to his room and sits on the balcony with a glass of wine. Looking at the houses and lights in the distance, Zhong Shaoting gets lost in deep thought.
Was it because he hurt her too badly, which made her unable to let go of the past in her mind, even though he had explained to her the reasons for doing that, and she had said “forgive him” only orally. Or was it because of An Ya? Unable to figure out the reasons, Zhong Shaoting is in a torment. He finally decides to ask for clarification tomorrow morning. If she refuses to talk about this topic, he’ll take her to see a psychiatrist to ease her pain. Zhong Shaoting is planning.
Eventually, Zhong Shaoting dials Song Chen’s number and commands, “Song Chen, make me an appointment with a professional psychiatrist tomorrow.”
Song Chen, awakened by his boss, asks sleepily, “Hum? What’s going on? Why do you need a psychiatrist?”
“Ding Manman has been hiding something in her heart that she is unwilling to tell me. And I’m afraid she may suffer from depression, so I want to take her to a psychiatrist.” Zhong Shaoting explains.
Hearing this, Song Chen’s sleepy feeling instantly fades away and he says, “Okay, I get it. Don’t worry too much, my boss. I’m sure that Miss Ding will be fine. You have to believe ‘Escape from death in a great catastrophe spoils.’ Miss Ding will have a better life in the future!”
“I wish so. Well, you go back to sleep, Song Chen.” After saying that, Zhong Shaoting hangs up the phone.
Then, Zhong Shaoting finishes his glass of wine and looks out of the window.
Tomorrow will be a beautiful day. Zhong Shaoting expects in his heart.
A new day begins with the sun rising. Zhong Shaoting, who keeps worrying about Ding Manman, now sits at the dining table, waiting for her to have breakfast together.
After breakfast, Zhong Shaoting asks Ding Manman in a seemingly careless manner, “Manman, what did you dream about last night, and you screamed out loud in the nightmare. You can tell me what happened and I’ll help you out.”
Seeing that Ding’s face instantly turns pale, Zhong Shaoting realizes that the nightmare must be relevant to him.
Seeing her keeping silent, Zhong continues speaking, “Did you feel too stressed these days? I want to take you out to meet a friend today.”
Hearing Zhong’s words, Ding Manman nods her head in agreement as she doesn’t want to tell the truth to him.
When Ding Man Man is packing up, Zhong Shaoting once again calls Song Chen, “Song Chen, Manman still has a grudge against me. I told her to take her to meet a friend later, but I didn’t say it is a psychiatrist. You have to ask that doctor to pretend as my friend. Do not expose his real identity.”
Seeing the fact that Zhong Shaoting cares a lot about Ding Manman, Song Chen wonders if this is a favorable sign for his boss, and if he is able to endure pain in case Ding leaves him one day.
If Song Chen voices all these concerns and worries now, Zhong’s discontents will be increased. Thus, he responds, “Okay, I’ll instruct the doctor ahead of time. By the way, his name is Bai Nantian.”
After packing up, Zhong Shaoting takes Ding to the doctor’s home. Along the way, he keeps finding all sorts of topics to talk about with Ding Manman, hoping to get her relaxed.
After arrival, Zhong Shaoting familiarly takes Ding Manman in and introduces the doctor to her, “Manman, this is Bai Nantian, my good friend. He’s curious about you, so today I bring you here to visit him.”
“Nice to meet you, Manman! Just call me Xiao Nan, welcome to my home. Please sit down and help yourself.” Bai Nantian says familiarly.
In fact, Bai Nantian is shocked by Ding’s delicate beauty at the moment of her walking in. Bai Nantian isn’t a lustful person, so naturally he won’t do anything harmful to her, though attracted by her attractive look.
Ding Manman feels incredible that Bai Nantian who looks very gentle and tame makes friends with Zhong Shaoting. They are different: one is cold, while the other hot. It is clearly that complementary talents can make friends! Ding Manman guesses in her mind.
After settling down, Bai Nantian goes to the kitchen to prepare tea for them, with his eyes signaling Zhong Shaoting to follow him out.
“Zhong Shaoting, right? Since you have told her that we are good friends, I can’t ask her questions directly. I need to deeply understand her inner world by hypnotizing her. Hypnosis requires an absolute silent atmosphere, so you might need to find an excuse to go out for a bit.” Bai Nantian says to Zhong Shaoting frankly.
“Will hypnosis be harmful to her health?” Zhong Shaoting asks.
“No, don’t worry about that. I won’t suggest doing this if it’s dangerous.” Bai Nantian says in a serious manner.
Zhong Shaoting who is unfamiliar with psychotherapy accepts Bai Nantian’s proposal.
