Also in agreement was Candace, who said, “There are too many people in this world with malicious intentions, Mia. You haven’t heard about those cases where a man from a poor background married a wealthy woman just to divorce her and take a portion of her fortune, have you? If he is one of those guys, you need to give some serious thought to how you want to proceed with your relationship with him.”
Mia’s cheeks were puffed up as she asked the question, “How could your guys say this about him? I’m going to tell Dad! Aside from that, Nick isn’t really familiar with my identity. I did a very good job of keeping my true identity hidden from him. Unless I tell him, he will never discover the truth!”
Thea was of the opinion that the whole situation was somewhat strange. Cody was informed in this manner upon his arrival.
There were a lot of Johnsons in this city. But the surname “Johnson” would always make Cody alert. He still couldn’t shake off those memories of when Leo and Miles Johnson tried to kill Mom, Candace, and himself.
Could this Nick have anything to do with them?
Cody instantly sent his men to figure out the whole thing.
In the end, it just proved that Nick was indeed a child from that house.
However, when the Johnson family fell, the boy was still just a baby. His parents got divorced back then. His mother brought him to a small town.
It was impossible for Nick to know about the grudge between the two families.
But if he did, then he must be very ambitious and bold to approach Mia that way.
Mia had an issue. She tended to trust people without figuring out their purposes.
Cody decided to continue digging in.
Thea heard about the things Cody just got. She could only pray that this Nick really didn’t know who Mia was.
She wished Mia’s relationship with him could last because she could tell that Mia loved him very much.
Cody went to investigate Nick himself, noticing that Nick really didn’t know who Mia really was.
Mia did a great job of hiding her real identity. She seldom showed anyone that she was rich. She was using the same things and living in the college dormitory like everyone else.
And Nick appeared to not know the history between his family and the other two big houses.
However, after thinking for a while, Cody still decided to tell Mia everything. He didn’t want any trouble in the future.
“What? He’s from that Johnson family?” Mia’s mouth fell open. She heard Dad and Mom mention this family a lot. She didn’t know the specific story, but she knew the Johnson house and her house had never been on good terms.
Cody nodded, “Yes. He’s a son of that Johnson house. His family was a side branch, more specifically. His parents barely knew the reason for their family’s fall. But our houses actively destroyed their wealth and position in this city. I doubted he would still feel okay to date you after knowing the truth. I’m not saying he was a bad guy. I just want you to be careful.”
Mia fell silent.
Her original plan was to tell Nick who she really was after their relationship was more stable.
But now, she suddenly heard a piece of news like this. She didn’t know what to do anymore. The idea of giving up the love of her life was beyond her.
But she still nodded, “Cody, could you not tell my Dad about this first? I need time to think it through.”
Cody nodded, “Of course, I won’t tell anyone. This is your relationship. You’re gonna make decisions on your own. I just think it’s necessary for you to know the truth. The right to make decisions is in your hands.”
Thea nodded, feeling moved. But she still couldn’t make up her mind after Cody left. She loved Nick so much, and she didn’t want to separate from him.
Nick was a great guy with a gentle heart. She didn’t mind the grudge between the two houses. But would Nick still accept her after knowing that her family destroyed his house a long time ago?
Mia made up her mind again and again. Yet Nick still got to know the truth before she could tell him.
The worst thing happened.
Mia couldn’t even bring herself to look him in the eyes when Nick asked her to go out with him.
“Mia, your Weston house is the Weston house, right?” Nick sounded sad on the other side of the table.
Mia panicked, “Listen, Nick… I really didn’t mean to hide this from you. I was just scared that you …”
“You’re just scared that I was a gold digger? That I approached you because I want your money and your house’s power?” Nick sounded utterly disappointed. He couldn’t understand it.
He thought he was good enough for Mia. He thought he had already loved her enough to give her a sense of safety, but she still lied to him.
Mia hid her identity because she didn’t want Nick to hate her. She wanted to tell him the truth, but she felt tongue-tied when Nick looked at her so disappointedly, “Listen, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. I was scared you wouldn’t like me anymore after knowing who I was. I thought…”
“You thought I hate privileged people enough to dump the girl I love?” Nick couldn’t calm down. He was kinda nerdy despite the dashing look. A lot of girls in the college chased him, but he only had his eyes on Mia.
Mia was his first love, and he thought they could have become something.
But he hated it so much when people lied to him. He couldn’t accept a person who lied to him, no matter what his or her intention was.
“Well… If you can’t be honest with me, Mia, I don’t think we should continue this relationship. I think we should take a break. I hope you can find someone good enough to deserve your honesty.”
With that, Nick just stood up from his seat and walked out of the cafe.
