She was in a hot red dress, and her body looked perfect.
Tiffany couldn’t stop screaming and cheering for all of them as the camera directed to her face.
“Ahhh! I LOVE YOU, DYLAN!” Tiffany screamed, faking a high-pitched and sweet voice.
Beth rolled her eyes. Thea pulled at her sleeve immediately, “Camera.”
The studio went so high after the splendid performance. The workers on site had to remind the girls to calm down.
“Girls! Please take your seats. We have to move on to the next segment.”
Dylan noticed the competitors were screaming his name. He turned to the seat where the girls were sitting, smiling and gesturing at them to be quiet.
An exciting murmur stirred among the competitors as five song names popped on the huge screen on stage.
Adam was the host of this round of competition.
He stood there and explained the rules, “Welcome to The Top Girlband. This is our first round, and we totally have 101 competitors. Now, girls, you have 10 minutes to team up and select the songs among these five to perform. After that, your performance will be scored by the judges, and the score will decide your fate, leave or stay.”
“10 minutes? This is too short.” Tiffany complained, still using her high-pitched fake voice as the camera was near her, “Can’t we have more time?”
Beth resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Thea’s eyes fell on the judge’s seat. Paris was sitting there, making her resting goddess face for the camera. But Thea still could see how comfortable she looked when she had to sit near Wendy.
Wendy was the national diva, and her singing and dancing skills were the best among all the female singers.
Paris knew nothing about singing or dancing. She felt outshined. That was probably the reason why she tried so hard to look good before the camera.
Thea secretly rolled her eyes and looked away.
“Which one are you gonna choose, Thea?” Beth suddenly asked.
“I don’t know.” Thea frowned, “All of them seemed like really old songs. My advantage is vocal. So, firstly, I don’t think I can choose the pop ones.”
“Yep,” Beth shrugged, “Those with better dancing skills will definitely choose pop songs.”
“There’s an R&B. So Sick,” Thea suddenly said, “I think that one suits both of us. Let’s choose that genre.”
“I agree,” Beth smiled.
The song Thea chose ended up becoming the least chosen song. Thea was a bit surprised. Were most girls in this competition feeling more confident with their dancing skills than their vocals? She didn’t know why. Wasn’t the priority of a girl band their vocals?
She couldn’t figure it out, but she thought if she was one of the small numbers of people who felt confident about their vocals in this competition, then it could become her advantage.
There were about 10 people who chose So Sick.
Thea and Beth ended up teaming up with 3 other girls. Their names were Anna, Bella, and Luna.
The team members totally decided on the permanence and the style. None of the directors or judges would interfere. So, it was also a test for their creation.
Bella was the best dancer among all of them. She directed the simple choreography of the stage.
Luna was the most eloquent one, so she instantly became the group leader, collecting opinions and distributing the parts.
The girls were pretty focused when they practiced because they knew their scores would send them to different classes from A to F, and they only had three hours before presenting their stage.
Thea felt lucky because all the girls seemed to be really nice people. They didn’t argue about the parts they got, and they only decided which parts go to which person based on that person’s skills.
Thea ended up getting all the high notes. They were difficult, and Thea knew she could shine on the stage and impress the judges by hitting them.
The rehearsal went quite well, and soon it was time for them to go to the stage.
The performance was all about the power of a team. Before they went on the stage, Thea noticed the makeup of her team members was a bit off. A beautiful appearance also played a huge part on stage when it came to live performances. The girls only had three hours for rehearsals, and the makeup artists probably only got minutes.
Thea could understand why the makeup was a bit rough. So, as they waited backstage for other teams to complete their performances, Thea grabbed her beauty kit and started to fix her girls’ makeup one by one, including herself.
“Whoa! Thea!” Bella exclaimed to the mirror, “Are you like a professional? Your makeup skill is no joke!” Thea used to paint herself as a teenager and worked for the Bradley House for a whole year without being found out. Of course, she was good at doing makeup.
Thea only smiled and took the compliment.
And then, it was their turn to go up the stage. Thea took in a deep breath and hugged Beth before they walked out. When the spotlight hit Thea, she felt she was alive.
Thea was a bit nervous, but she still did her best without making any mistakes.
The judges clapped when their performance was over. The other team had performed So Sick before them. And that made the two teams competitors.
When the judges started to comment on Thea’s team’s performance, the first team performed So Sick, Team A was also invited onto the stage.
Thea’s team was given the title Team B name.
“Team A performed the song extremely well. I can tell all of you have solid skills when it comes to singing and dancing,” Dylan was the first one to speak, “I can tell from Team B’s performance that the members’ skills are of different levels. And that made your performance a bit uneven. But you guys are quite smart with part-distributing, hiding the fact that some of you are not good at dancing. That is very smart for performers. And I’m utterly impressed by the vocals. The singing is beautiful. Among the two teams, I personally preferred Team B’s performance. It’s creative. I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
