“I have something to tell you,” Linford made up his mind.
“What is it?” Cody’s hand stopped. He winced.
“I’m gonna marry your Mom soon,” Linford sincerely mentioned.
“What?” Cody went bristled immediately. “Are you kidding me right now?”
Linford turned around, facing the boy calmly. “Why don’t you agree? Can I at least know the reason?”
“I…” Cody’s mouth fell open. His head went blank for a second, but he soon found his tongue, “Mom doesn’t even like you.”
“She didn’t like me before, but now she does,” Linford explained patiently, “Cody, I know it must be hard for you to accept me. But your Mom and I have been together for a while. People will say weird things about her if we don’t get married. You also don’t want your Mom to be humiliated, do you?”
“I don’t care what other people say!” Cody hissed.
“Every woman wanted to be with the man she loved. You said you don’t care, but have you ever asked your Mom? You can’t find a man better than me. Besides, we’re biologically related. Why can’t you give me a chance?”
What was wrong with this man?
Cody threw the sponge away, “I don’t want to talk about this.” And then, the boy walked out of the bathroom.
Linford looked at the boy as he walked away, feeling complicated. He wanted to stand up and go back to his room. However, his feet slipped, and his whole body lurched forward. Linford’s arms shot out to support himself against the wall instantly. However, that move seriously strained his wounds.
“Ow…” Linford clenched his teeth as cold sweat rolled down his face.
Cody ran back immediately as he heard the noise. He went to Linford nervously, “What’s wrong? What happened?”
“Help me get back to the room,” Linford breathed sharply.
Cody noticed his bandages had been tainted by blood.
“You… You’re bleeding.” The boy stuttered.
Linford fought the cutting pain on his shoulder as he tried to comfort the boy, “It’s okay. I’m okay. No big deal. Just call Jack and Drew. Please don’t tell your Mom.”
Franco panicked as he heard what happened to Linford’s wounds. He sent Jack to call Drew over immediately.
It was too late to go to the hospital. They thus performed the surgery in Linford’s room.
Franco was so anxious that he couldn’t sit, waiting outside the room in his pajamas.
Cody was so guilty as he faced Franco, “Pop, it was all my fault. I shouldn’t have left him.”
“It’s not your fault, boy,” Franco held Cody against his side. Drew brought a group of nurses with him. Franco knew the doctor would definitely ensure Linford was alright in the end.
Candace heard the noise on the balcony. The little girl listened quietly for a while before turning to ask her Mom, “Mom, is something happening over there?”
Candace insisted on watching the stars on the balcony tonight. She had found the room next to hers was quite noisy a couple of minutes ago.
She thus asked Cristelle, “Can I go out and take a look?”
Cristelle went out of the door and stopped a nurse passing by. She asked the nurse and quickly knew that Linford’s wound had been accidentally opened. She was worried, but she was still mad at Linford at this moment.
So she just told Candace that nothing had happened and she needed to go to sleep.
Candace, however, insisted on taking a look.
Cristelle sighed and brought her to Franco.
“Pop, why are you guys still up?” Candace walked over, holding her doll in her arms.
Franco pulled her in, cooing. “Why did you come out, sweetie? You should be in bed this time.”
“I heard noises, so I came out,” Candace yawned, “Pop, is Dad okay?”
Franco nodded, “It’s just his wounds. Drew brought his nurses here to take care of him. Cody’s also with him right now. He will be fine. You don’t need to worry.”
“Oh.” Candace nodded, “Can I wait here with you?”
Franco was hesitant, “But you don’t have to, sweetie. You should go back to sleep.”
“But I want to,” Candace was quite stubborn.
Jack and Lily exchanged a smile. Candace always cared about Linford so much. Cristelle was pacing back and forth in her room. She was so worried but she still refused to go out. She was still mad at that man.
Drew and the nurses came out of Linford’s room three hours later. Lily was the one who walked forward. “Doctor Drew, how is Linford now?”
Drew cast a look at Cristelle’s room, knowing she must be heard behind the door right now, “I managed to stitch his arm. But he really needs to be careful from now on. He won’t be so lucky next time.”
“If that happens again and he loses his arm, he probably deserves it,” Franco was both angry and worried while uttering these words. He was secretly relieved knowing Linford was out of danger.
Jack smiled and tried to make Franco less angry. “Sir, don’t get too mad. You will wake Candace up.”
Candace had been so sleepy that she fell asleep an hour ago.
Lily went forward and carried Candace in her arms, “I’m taking Candace back to her Mom. It’s quite late right now, and it must be tiring to drive back home. Please feel free to use the guestrooms with your nurses, Doc. I’ll change the sheets for you guys later.”
“Thanks, Lily,” Drew smiled, “You’re such a nice person.”
Cody didn’t say many things after leaving Linford’s room. The boy was still quite guilty.
“Cody, listen,” Drew crouched down as he looked into the boy’s eyes, “Don’t blame yourself for what happened, okay? You did a great job.”
Cody nodded, face paled.
Cristelle didn’t go to Linford’s room until she ensured everyone had left. She also didn’t want to sneak into Linford’s room late at night, but she just couldn’t fall asleep without knowing Linford’s situation.
When she pushed the door open, Linford was still sleeping. His face was a bit pale under the moonlight.
He could only lie on his belly because of the wounds on his shoulder. It must be so uncomfortable for him.
Cristelle walked forth and brushed his hair off his handsome face. He wouldn’t have to suffer this way if he didn’t hide anything from her.
The feelings churning in Cristelle’s chest were hard to remove. She didn’t even know if she was still mad at Linford Bradley after what he had suffered recently.
