Jasper deserved what he got. He couldn’t blame it on anyone else.
“Cristelle, it’s time to go. Jasper’s family will be here soon.” Drew urged.
Cristelle walked out of the room, taking Cody with her.
“Is Jasper okay?” Candace asked as she saw her Mom come out. The girl was too small to understand the meaning of being dead.
Cristelle tried to suppress her tears as she held the girl tightly in her arms, “He’s fine.”
The air was too gloomy. Drew tried to distract them, “Candace, your Dad’s injured as well. He’s also in this hospital. Do you want to see him?”
Candace looked up in a panic, “How… How did he get hurt?”
Drew shook his head, “I don’t know. Let’s go and take a look.”
“Mom.” Candace looked at Cristelle, “Dad.”
Cristelle didn’t want to see Linford at all. But Candace looked genuinely worried. She could only go.
They went to Linford’s private room. Drew pushed the door open as he thought Linford must be dealing with his files right now.
However, when the door was pushed open, they found Lana sitting beside Linford’s bed, trying to feed him some soup.
Everyone went dumbfounded. Lana shot up from her seat immediately, smiling, “Cri-Cristelle, Drew, it’s good to see you guys. Linford’s arm can’t move. I’m just trying to help. I hope you won’t misunderstand this.”
Cody rolled his eyes. This woman was such a snake.
She said she didn’t want his Mom to misunderstand anything, but she just couldn’t wait for his Mom to misunderstand the whole situation and have a fight with his Dad.
Linford didn’t care about this at all because he knew he didn’t do anything wrong.
“Cristelle,” A big smile broke his face as he tried to sit up.
“Dad, what are you doing?” Candace pouted.
Drew explained, “Your Dad’s shoulder got hit, and that thing shattered his bones. He can’t move around and hold stuff right now. So he needs someone to feed him if he wants to get any food.”
Cristelle became worried as she heard the fact. Candace was also worried about her Dad as well. She asked Cristelle to put her down. Cristelle did what the girl said.
Candace sat on Linford’s bed. Linford pinched her cheek a bit, “Why are you crying, honey?”
Candace looked sad, “Do you know Jasper? He died. We won’t see him anymore.”
Linford pulled her in with one arm and kissed the top of her head, “It’s okay, sweetie. You still have Daddy.”
Candace nodded against his chest, “It’s bad that we can’t see him.”
Linford smiled, “Jasper has gone to a better place. He will become a star, and you will see him at night.”
Candace looked up, eyes still red, “Really?”
“Really,” Linford was sure.
Candace turned to look at her Mom.
Cristelle forced out a smile, “That’s true, honey. We will go see some stars tonight, so you will see Jasper, okay?”
Candace nodded, “Okay!”
The little girl finally stopped crying.
Candace was so sad for that man. Why did she care about him so much?
Linford didn’t say anything, but he had to admit that he was a bit jealous.
“I brought a lot of food on my way here,” Lana smiled sweetly and walked toward Cristelle, “You must haven’t eaten any breakfast coming here this early, Cristelle. Do you want to have some?”
Cristelle shook her head, “No, it’s so nice of you. But I’ve had my breakfast at home. And thank you so much for taking care of Linford when I’m away. I’m pretty busy today. I probably need to go back. You guys enjoy your food.” And then, Cristelle smiled at Candace, “Honey, do you want to go home now?”
Candace didn’t like staying in the hospital. She ran toward Cristelle immediately, “Let’s go!”
Cristelle picked up her daughter and smiled at Linford, walking out of the room. Jack and Cody followed.
“Cristelle!” Linford tried to stop her, but he used too much strength as he sat up. He almost fell off his bed.
Lana hurried to help him up, but Cristelle didn’t even bother to look back. Drew looked at Linford and then at Lana, “Linford, what the heck is this?”
By “this,” he meant Lana.
Lana pretended to be worried, but she was secretly happy. If that woman started a fight with Linford because of what she saw, Linford would definitely think she was a jealous woman.
“Nothing happened.” Lana explained, “Cristelle must have misunderstood something. Do I need to explain this to her?”
Drew looked away.
Linford shook his head, “It’s none of your business. You go back to the company first.”
“But I want to take care of you. The bullet got in so deep. Cristelle probably has the babies to worry about. But I care about you.” Lana said eagerly.
Linford was so annoyed, “Just go, Lana. I need to talk to Drew.”
Lana pouted, “Fine.”
And then, she walked out of the door.
Drew pulled a chair and sat down the minute Lana disappeared, “Linford, are you serious? That was not appropriate to see at all.”
“It doesn’t matter. Cristelle won’t get mad at me because of boring things like that,” Linford frowned, “She’s mad at me because Jasper Johnson died.”
“But you also made mistakes. Besides, Jasper was killed. He was Cristelle’s friend, after all. It’s only normal that he had reactions like that,” Drew explained, “I’m reminding you because I care about you. That Lana is not as innocent as you thought. She wouldn’t treat you so nicely if she didn’t hold any thoughts against you. If you don’t deal with her right now, she will start a scene sooner or later.”
Linford’s face fell, “I know how to deal with her.”
“Well, I’m glad you do,” Drew stood up from his chair, “I don’t think I should keep interrupting you now. You get some rest.”
“Wait, take these with you,” Linford tipped his chin to point at the exquisite food and desserts on the table.
Drew frowned, “No thanks. I’ve eaten my breakfast.”
“Just take them away,” Linford was pretty determined.
Drew could only take the food and distribute it among the nurses who hadn’t had any breakfast.
