Jasper went forward and grabbed Cody’s shoulder. He found two bugs in the boy’s clothes. He threw the bugs to the ground and stepped on them, “I bet they can’t hear us now.”
Cody looked at him calmly, “Do you still think you can run away?”
Jasper pulled the boy away. “If I can’t run away, I’ll drag you down to hell with me.”
The hatred on Jasper’s face became stronger, “If it were not for you and your sister, your Mom would have been mine a long time ago. I’d waited for her for so many years, and now she had just decided to be with another man! I wasted so much time on her. Someone needs to pay!”
Cody didn’t seem to flinch. “My Mom turned you down a long time ago explicitly. You’re the one who refused to let it go! You’re out of your mind!”
Is he out of his mind?
He turned down millions for Cristelle Friesley, and now he’s the one who’s out of his mind.
Jasper laughed sarcastically, “You think I’m out of my mind, boy? Good. I’ll let you see how crazy I am.” He dragged the boy with him as he climbed upstairs.
“Cody, I would still hurt you even if I had another choice,” Jasper looked at the concrete floor under his feet. They were on top of a deserted building.
“But now, I guess I can only take you with me.”
Cody knew Jasper had gone crazy. But he didn’t show any fear at all, “Don’t you think what you’re saying right now is pretty hypocritical? You hate my guts. Just admit it. And you don’t like Candace either. Or you wouldn’t have done that to her. You even hired those men to kill me. You’re a 100% hypocrite, Jasper Johnson. And you don’t even dare to face your true self. Mom has seen through your true face. That’s why she will never love you.”
Jasper faltered, “When did you know that? Who told you that?”
Cody’s eyes were cold, “If you don’t want people to know it, don’t do it. You want to make my Mom your own. So you’ve been trying to get rid of my sister and me. You’re a piece of trash.” The boy suddenly went a bit sad, “I can’t believe that I actually wanted Mom to be with you. I didn’t know who you really were until very recently.”
Jasper laughed, “You can call me a hypocrite as you want, but my love for Cristelle is true. I thought it would only take time to finally win her over. But after so many years, she still couldn’t accept me. And that Linford Bradley. That bastard just jumped out of nowhere and took her away from me!”
“My Mom is not a trophy. She’s her own woman, and no one could take her away! You just lost your sanity because you think you would never be able to compete with Linford Bradley. But he’s just an ordinary man who cares about Mom a lot,” Cody hissed, “Besides, Mom has never been yours. You just went out of your mind because you’re not confident enough before Linford Bradley!”
Jasper’s deepest thought was exposed. He couldn’t bear that. He dangled the boy on the edge of the building roof and threatened to let go of his hand, “Shut the fuck up, or I’ll send you to hell!”
A red spot suddenly appeared on his forehead. Cody realized that Enzo had brought his snippers here.
“Let the boy go!” Enzo shouted on the other spot.
“Stay the fuck away from me! Or I’ll push him immediately!” Jasper threatened.
The snipper didn’t waste any time with him. A bullet got into Jasper’s shoulder, and he fell backward because of the impact.
Cody got up to his feet and ran away immediately.
Jasper got shot, but he still refused to let Cody go. He pulled out a gun from his pocket and pointed at the boy, pulling the trigger.
At that very moment, a figure dashed out of the door and pulled Cody in, covering the boy under his body.
Cody heard the loud boom of a gun, and he felt warm blood on his face. The boy’s eyes widened. But a big hand covered his eyes, “Don’t look, Cody.”
It was Linford’s voice.
Cody stayed still, not moving, until he heard another gunshot. Footfalls of military boots got close. Cody heard Enzo’s voice.
“Linford, you got shot. You need to go to the hospital.” Enzo put down his gun, trying to help his brother to get up.
Linford winced as he stood up, “It’s okay. It’s just a shoulder injury.”
“No! You’re not okay. You need to go to the hospital right now.” Enzo yelled, taking Linford away.
Linford cast a look at the boy. The boy was looking at him with his eyes wide open. He seemed stunned.
Linford let out a faint smile, “Don’t be scared. Everything will be fine.” And then, he was carried downstairs by one of the soldiers. Cody followed them immediately. Linford bled badly. It was pretty scary. Enzo and Cody waited outside when he was pushed into the operation room.
It took Cody a while to finally be able to talk, “How did he know our plan exactly?”
Enzo sighed. Why couldn’t his nephew and his brother get along? It was tough for him to get stuck in between.
“Your dad knew this when you decided to stop investigating those attackers. He guessed you would find a way to expose Jasper sooner or later. I didn’t tell him anything. Your dad’s just too smart to be fooled.”
Cody bowed his head. Why didn’t Linford Bradley say anything if he had already got to know the plan?
“He wants to finish the plan with you. He didn’t even want you to know his original purpose,” Enzo ruffled Cody’s head, “Your dad used to be just like you when he was young. No one could tell him what to do. He really wanted to be a good father. He just doesn’t know how to do that.”
That man had saved him twice. Cody felt bad.
Enzo could tell what the boy was thinking. He tried to comfort the boy. “Come on, Cody. Don’t feel bad for what has occurred. This isn’t your fault. Linford did this because he wanted to.”
