Cristelle’s tears welled up before he could finish his words.
She sniffed, “I know… I can understand. I just feel bad for our daughter. She doesn’t deserve to be treated like that, Linford.”
Linford pulled her small body in his arms, kissing her hair, “I will make them pay, Cristelle. I will make them pay for what they did one day.”
Cristelle thought about what she and her babies had gone through lately. She broke into tears against Linford’s chest.
Linford left kisses on her hair, cooing, “It’s okay… It’s okay. I will protect you and the babies. Those people won’t be able to hurt you guys anymore.”
Seeing her cry was killing him.
Cristelle looked up with her tearful eyes, “So… You already know who I am? Do you know that I might bring trouble to your family? You… You’ve even heard about my sister?”
“I know.” Linford looked at Cristelle gently, “I’ve known everything. But I don’t care about those things. You and the babies are the only things I care about in this world.”
Cristelle dropped her gaze, blushing. She could feel Linford’s long fingers wiping the tears from her cheek, “Don’t be scared. You will be fine. Your sister will also be safe.”
Cristelle felt complicated. This man just had known her greatest fear.
But she felt oddly safe in his arms.
He still chose her side without a second thought after knowing who she really was.
It meant so much to her.
The way Cristelle blushed right now was obvious.
Linford gripped her chin up so she could look into his eyes.
He leaned closer.
Before their lips could touch, a knock on the door startled them.
Drew walked in directly, “Yo, Linford… Wait… What are you guys doing?” It took Drew a second to notice what he had done.
“Geez… I’m sorry… I’m so sorry… You guys, please continue.” Drew dashed out the door.
Cristelle pulled back immediately. The blush on her face was getting worse, “Um… I probably need to go.”
And then, she escaped the room as well.
“Weston!” Linford bellowed as he walked out of the room.
Drew was about to get downstairs, but his whole body froze as soon as he heard Linford’s growl.
He swallowed and turned around slowly with a forced smile on his face.
“Don’t you know how to knock?” Linford looked like he wanted to murder someone.
This was the second time this idiot interrupted his moment with Cristelle!
“I…” Drew swallowed again, “I forgot!”
He thought Linford was quite conventional. He didn’t know he would do that with his wife inside the study room.
Linford took in a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, “What did you want to say exactly?”
Drew stuttered, “Well… I was just here to tell you that… The Wayne House just reacted. They decided to admit the crime. What are you gonna do next?”
“Stupid people!” Linford slammed the door.
“The Wayne has never been smart anyway. The decision is now in your hands. If you don’t want this to be over, we can still keep the game our way,” Drew shrugged. He guessed Linford wouldn’t let it go that easily. He knew his friend too well.
Linford, however, was lost in his own thoughts. If it were before, he would keep investigating the whole thing without a second thought.
But the way Cristelle cried in his arms broke his heart. He knew he had to be very careful before making his next move.
“I’ll find a way to take care of it,” Linford finally said.
“Wait… What? You’re not gonna act immediately?” Drew’s mouth dropped open.
“Not now,” Linford shook his head.
“When did you become such a kind man?” Drew couldn’t believe what he had just heard, “Did anything happen? So you feel you need to stop right now?” Drew knew his friend quite well. He wouldn’t have any hesitation if it was something he must do.
“I’m just taking a break. I didn’t say I’m gonna let it slide,” Linford arched his eyebrow.
“What is your plan?” Drew curiously asked.
“I’ll let the Wayne House breathe so they will all let their guards down,” Linford pondered, “The best part comes after that.”
Drew nodded, knowing his friend had had a thorough plan in his mind.
“Well… If you need to keep the plan for yourself, I’ll just stop probing,” Drew blew a breath out of his cheeks, “Chao, amigo.”
Linford nodded faintly. Before Drew could go downstairs, Linford suddenly asked, “How are things going between you and Cindy?”
Drew almost fell off the stairs.
“What Cindy? What things?” Drew looked so pissed off, “What the heck are you talking about, Linford?”
“I’m just asking. Why are you so nervous?” Linford shrugged, turning around and walking into his study room.
Drew frowned.
He was definitely getting back at him for walking into the study at the wrong time.
“Vengeful bastard,” Drew cursed under his breath before walking downstairs.
When Drew got downstairs, he happened to run into Pop.
Drew said goodbye and was about to leave, but Pop stopped him, asking him what Linford had told him.
Drew tucked his tongue in his cheek, suddenly having a nasty idea to get back at Linford, “Pop, he doesn’t even have time to talk to me. He was busy with Cristelle.”
“He was busy with Cristelle?” Pop frowned, “For what?”
Drew smirked, “You’re gonna have a new great-grandchild soon, Pop.”
Pop’s mouth dropped open.
“See you, Pop,” Drew waved and left the mansion.
Pop sat on the couch. It took him a while to realize what he had just heard from Drew.
Young people these days!
But if Drew was telling the truth, should he start to get prepared for new members of the Bradley House right now? The old man stood up from his chair, leaving the room happily to find his assistant.
Even though he didn’t approve of Linford’s uncontained behaviors at home, he was still happy to have new great-grandchildren.
First, Pop wanted to make sure that Linford and Cristelle got married as soon as possible. It was not good for the babies if Cristelle still wasn’t calling Linford “husband” after they came into the world.
Meanwhile, Cristelle was in the bedroom with Candace, completely unaware of Pop’s plan.
She held her daughter in her arms and stroked her hair gently, “Sorry, hon. Mommy got something to deal with a couple of minutes ago. I hope you’re fine.”
Candace blinked, noticing Cristelle had tears in her eyes. So she reached for Cristelle’s eyes to wipe the tears for her.
“I’m okay, sweetie,” Cristelle saw the concern in her baby’s eyes, forcing out a smile, “Let’s play puzzles, shall we?”
The girl nodded happily.
