LARA.
I couldn’t take it anymore after the humiliation Tony put me in. If no one was going to hear my story, I knew some people who would believe me and take sides with me no matter what, and those are my girls. Most of them never really liked Beth anyway, they were only being nice to her because they knew I was her best friend; and they know that whoever does anything bad to my best friend, I wouldn’t take it lightly with such person. But now that the friendship bond between Beth and I have been broken due to her betrayal, it was time to tell the girls what she did to me.
I decided to invite the girls over for an impromptu meeting, as that was what I called it for them. They were all gathered in my sitting room now, anxiously waiting for me to tell them what I had called them for. I wasn’t ready to accept the rejection, and I needed to do something about it. Besides, how was I to go about the baby I was carrying? I’ve never for once in my life lost a man to another woman, and I was not ready to let this be my first. I had to do something about it, and this is going to be my first step into it.
“What’s this about?” Grace asked, checking the time on her wristwatch. “I’m quite busy this afternoon, and I only came here because you said it was very urgent.” She said as she turned to look at me again.
“By the way, where’s Beth?” Yeesha asked. “Is she the one we’re waiting for?”
“Maybe you’ll have to text whatever this meeting is about to me through a text message, cause why do we have to wait for someone that’s late? That’s unfair to us that came early, girl.” Janet said too.
I don’t blame them, but the way they kept complaining was irritating me. I couldn’t do anything though, because I needed to be in my best behaviour to convince them that Beth betrayed me and also betrayed our friendship.
“We ain’t waiting for Beth. This meeting is about her,” I said and folded my arms, staring at them from one person to the other. “Beth betrayed me, she betrayed us all!”
Silence ensued, as they all stared at me, expectine to explain what I meant by that statement. They were not sure of what I was saying, as I could read the confused expression on their faces.
“What are you even saying, Lara?” Yeesha asked.
“Yeah, what? What did Beth do?” Grace said after her.
“Like for real, what could she ever do to make you call her a betrayer? You two were like two peas in a pod, so I don’t get it,” Janet said, all of them staring at me.
“Would any of you believe it if I told you that Beth slept with Tony while we were together and now she’s carrying his baby?” I said, expecting them to exclaim, or at least be as surprised as I was when I found out. But looking at them, they were only a little bit surprised, and that managed to piss me off a bit. I wanted them to cuss her immediately, but it seemed like they needed an evidence or something. “Why aren’t you guys saying anything? Didn’t you hear me well?” I questioned, looking at each of them from one person to the other.
“Where did you even get that info from?” Grace asked and scoffed. “I mean, I don’t like Beth that much anyway, but I can swear that she’s the only one out of us, followed by Yeesha, who wouldn’t dare do something like that. I bet you’re mistaken.” She said and shrugged, looking unconvinced by the news I gave to them.
“What are you even saying, Grace? Are you telling me that I’m lying or something?” I asked her. “I mean, yeah, that’s why I was so shocked. Who would have believed that the holy Beth could do that?”
“So, the baby she claimed she didn’t know who the father was, it was Tony’s baby?” Yeesha asked, as if trying to put the pieces together.
“Wow,” Janet simply said. “You should have known though. I wonder how you never noticed the way Tony and Beth stared at each other whenever they’re around each other. I thought I was the only one that noticed until someone else mentioned it amongst us once, but you warded it off like we didn’t matter. Now, here is the problem and you’re calling us to it.”
“Are you trying to put the blame on me now?” I asked her, surprised at the reply she had given me. What I needed right now was for all of them to support me against Beth, and not for them to be against me. I couldn’t lose to Beth, and getting Tony back was the only way to show her that I was more superior when it came to men.
“What about Tony?” Grace asked, a look of confusion on his face. “What did he say about it? Does he know the baby is his?”
“Yeah, he does! They both planned it! In fact, I caught them making out! That was how I got to know everything. If I didn’t catch them making out, I wouldn’t have known that Beth was nursing Tony’s child! And guess what?” I asked them.
“What?” They all chorused.
“He even went as far as breaking up with me!”
“What the fuck?!” They exclaimed at the same time.
“Tony broke up with you?” Janet asked, sitting up on the chair. “How could he? I thought he claimed you were the only woman he ever loved?”
“Why are you even bothered? He’ll come back, he always does. Just calm down and wait for him like you always do,” Grace replied nonchalantly.
“Yeah. He might come back again. Besides, you’re carrying a baby for him, so he’ll definitely still come back to try to sort everything out. He can’t just leave the baby with you.” Yeesha said.
I facepalmed myself before looking back at them. “Have you guys forgotten that the child is Damien’s and not his?! Why would he come back for another man’s child, uh? Don’t you all get it?!”
“We know. But he doesn’t know that the baby isn’t his, so continue playing the game till you birth the child. Then you’ll abondon the baby with him and flee!” Janet replied and the other girls nodded. I noticed that Yeesha gave Janet a scornful stare, as if what she had said didn’t make any sense. But that was not my problem at the moment. What I would do about the baby, was what was bothering me the most.
“Yes. It would have been easier if he still had no idea. But guess what? The bitch has told him that the baby isn’t his!” I said and then, their eyes went wide open in shock.
“Now, that’s a real problem,” Grace said and the others nodded. Just as she was about to say something else, my phone rang.
“Who the fuck is calling me at this time that I’m in the middle of an important discussion, uh?” I asked no one in particular as I turned to pick up my phone from the stool next to me. I checked the phone screen and I saw that it was Beth, making me scoff. I showed the girls who was calling. “Look who we have here, uh. Beth, the betrayer.” I said and chuckled lightly.
