Chapter 153
It was night and Lisa had woken up from sleep. She opened our eyes and stared around the room. Alfred who was sitting by her side before she had slept off wasn’t there anymore.
She sighed softly and sat up properly on the bed looking around the room. Memories of how Daniel had tried to force himself on her came rushing inside her head like a flash.
If Alfred hadn’t come in to stop him. She closed her eyes briefly and took a deep breath. She didn’t want to think of what would have happened.
Just then the door burst open revealing Alfred.
“Lisa you’re awake, I was about to come to wake you up for dinner. how are you feeling?” Alfred asked as he walked towards Lisa. Lisa stared at him without saying a word. Alfred sighed softly. She probably wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone, perhaps she was still in shock after what happened.
“I prepared dinner. You should come downstairs and join the kids at the dining table” Alfred said
“I’m not hungry, the kids should eat without me,” Lisa said calmly and laid back on the bed.
“But Lisa…”
“I said I’m not hungry Alfred. Please, I want to be alone, please” Lisa yelled and Alfred nodded in response before walking out of the room. Alfred didn’t want to push things too far with Lisa, he understood she needed some space and he was willing to give her if it’s what makes her happy.
Alfred went downstairs to the dining room and met the kids who were discussing. Immediately the kids had seen Alfred, they turned to him, staring at him.
The kids had asked him about their mom and he had told them she was in her room sleeping. He had told them their mommy would join them during dinner and when dinner was served, the kids had asked Alfred to go call Lisa for dinner and now Alfred had come back without their mommy.
“Daddy, where is mommy?” Isabella asked
“Mommy is resting. She said she won’t be able to join you guys for dinner” Alfred said as he smiled at the kids.
“Is mommy Alright?” Annabella asked worriedly.
“Yes, mommy is fine. She’s just stressed and her leg still hurts. She just needs a little more rest and she will be fine” Alfred said in reply and the kids sighed sadly.
“Mommy has been working hard lately, she doesn’t even want to rest. She just wants us to be okay” Clarabella said
“Yeah. I’m glad daddy is here now to help mommy so mommy can rest. She needs it” Arabella said and Alfred smiled at the kids. What an understanding kid. Lisa was really lucky to have these kids and he is also lucky to have Lisa and the kids too. He’s a blessed man.
“Common kids, let’s eat before the food gets cold, ” Alfred said as he sat down on one of the vacant chairs.
“What about mommy? What will she eat? ” the kids asked at once. These kids care about their mommy a lot and they love her so much.
“I’ll bring her food to her room upstairs. I’ll make sure she eats. Mommy is gonna be fine” Alfred said and the kids nodded in response.
“Can we go see mommy once we are done eating?” Isabella asked
“Uhm, no. Mommy wants to be alone. You guys can see her by tomorrow morning ” Alfred said and the kids nodded sadly. They just wished their mommy could join them at the dining table so they could eat together as one happy family.
After the kids were done eating, Alfred had taken them to their room and helped them take their bath. He helped them wear their night clothes and helped them lay on the bed. As usual, he told them a bedtime story and sang for them till they drifted to sleep.
He kissed their forehead, switched off the lights, and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. He walked to the kitchen and rushed out some food for Lisa. He carried the food in a tray and brought it upstairs to Lisa’s room.
He placed it on a table in the room.
“Lisa, you should eat. You haven’t eaten anything since” Alfred said to Lisa who was lying on the bed with her back facing him. He knew too well Lisa wasn’t sleeping.
“Lisa……..”
“Alfred please, I just want to be alone,” Lisa said sadly. Alfred could sense the sadness in his voice.
He nodded and walked inside the bathroom and minutes later he walked out.
“I prepared a hot bath for you. You should take your bath and eat, I would come to check on you later ” Alfred said and was about to walk out of the room but paused when Lisa spoke.
“He saved my life when I jumped off the bridge,” Lisa said and sniffed.
“He took me in, he gave me hope when I had none. He stood by me when I had nobody. He was my backbone. He had helped me with the kids too. He took them as his own” Lisa said, more tears slipping down her cheeks. She sat up on the bed and Alfred turned to her.
“Daniel would never do anything to hurt me. He had always done everything to make me happy. All he’s ever done was for me and the quadruplets to be happy” Lisa cried and Alfred moved towards her. He sat beside her on the bed and pulled her into a warm hug.
Lisa didn’t know why but immediately Alfred hugged her and she felt calm and relaxed. She felt safe again. She felt everything was going to be fine again.
“I know he’s a good man, he had only lost control when he was hurt. He would never do anything to hurt the people he loves. He’s selfless” Alfred said and Lisa could sense the sadness in Alfred’s voice.
She pulled away from the hug and stared at Alfred.
“I finally found out he didn’t kill Rhoda. He was innocent After all”
