CHAPTER 7- Rogues attacking
JASMINE’S P. O. V.
Lunch hits and I couldn’t be happier. Nick meets me at my class so we walk to the cafeteria together. I like this. I have someone who wants me around. He also makes a point of keeping his arms around me as much as possible. Like he is afraid that if he has any distance between us I will slip away. It is nice to feel wanted like this. My pack never let me feel like this.
As we walk to the table we pass Hunter and Nick’s grip on me tightens. I think he is under the impression that I am engaged to Hunter. He says little things like, Hunter seems to like you too more than you think. And if it is Hunter he isn’t going to give us the year. Like I really care what the hell Hunter thinks. I know if I am mated to Hunter this will be over real quick, there is no way I am staying mated to him.
We get to the table and Nick manages to position us so that I am leaning against him while we are sitting. It feels comfortable and nice. The chatter picks up from all of my friends. Evan is the first to comment on our dating.
“What makes you think you are worthy of our Jasmine?” He jokes. Nick has no idea it is a joke.
“I think Jasmine made that choice herself.” Nick states.
Evan starts laughing, “Just joking. I love messing with people and since you are new to the group you are the butt of the joke at the moment.”
Jay slaps Evan on the shoulder, “It has been a long time since we had a guy join the group. These girls seem to think dating is illegal or something.” He winks at us all.
Nick looks around. “So you two aren’t dating anyone here?”
Jay shakes his head. “Nope, they are like a group of sassy nuns. I am surprised that you got Jasmine of all people to go out with you. She is the hardest nut to crack.”
Nick squeezes a little harder as if he is proud that he got me. That gives me a little fuzzy feeling. “I just don’t let anyone get close to me.” I smirk at Jay.
Jay returns it with a grunt. “God I remember. It took forever to get you to talk to me. Lucky for me I gave up trying to date you. That got nowhere quick.” Now Nick is pulling me even closer. Jeez, jealous much. That was like five years ago.
Jay obviously sees the stress in Nick. “Relax dude, that was years ago. She is nothing more than my best friend now. You have nothing to worry about from me.”
Just then Zoe pipes up. “Uh, Jas, the devil is coming this way.” She keeps looking behind me and then back at me. UGH, why can’t he just leave me alone?
I can sense that he is standing over me. I don’t even want to turn and acknowledge him. However he isn’t going to go away. “Jasmine, I need to talk to you.” Jay comes over and puts his hand on Hunter’s chest. This is not a good thing.
I get up if only to save Jay. “What do you need?” Jay raises his hand and backs up.
“I need to talk to you.” He raises an eyebrow like I am stupid for not getting this.
I roll my eyes. “I get that jerkface. How about you wait until we head home? That is the perfect time for your talks. You don’t need to talk to me now.”
He turns his back to me. “It is important.”
He starts to walk away clearly wanting me to follow. I sigh and follow. I turn around to Nick. “I’ll be right back.”
He groans. “You don’t have to listen to him, you know.”
Zoe pats his hand. “Sorry dude. They have a connection that no one understands and no one can break. Just let it go, for your own good.” I shake my head and follow Hunter to the hall.
I cross my arms over my chest. “What the hell just couldn’t wait?”
He scrunches up his nose. “You smell like him.” The look of disgust is clear.
“So, What does that have to do with anything?” I scoff at him.
“Nothing. Just letting you know. Your father linked me. He said there was a rogue attack. Carlos will be picking us up but we need to be on guard. Not an early pickup. He asked me to relay the message.”
“Was anyone hurt?” I have no idea why my dad talked to him instead of me. I will have to talk to him about that. The things I need to discuss with him are just tacking up.
“No, they entered the perimeter and wrecked some buildings but that was it. It was two of them. The guard took them down. Your father is questioning them.” He knows he has my attention now. I am an Alpha after all. I will just have to make sure that the information goes directly to me. He may be my Beta, but not yet.
“Does he think it is the start of something more or a one time deal?” We are whispering because on occasion there are those that pass by. We both keep looking around making sure that no one is listening. They probably think we are doing a drug deal or something. We look too suspicious.
“Your father thinks at this point it was a one time attack, but that is why he is questioning them.” I think he is liking this talk. We haven’t been bantering. This is strictly business like it should be with us. No insults, just the pack. I guess we will be able to run the pack together, as long as we work like this.
“Alright, I will be aware.” I turn to leave, but Hunter stops me.
“Your human is pretty attached already. It might be hard to cut him loose. I don’t suggest hanging on much longer.” He is stating it like the weather. Not the only guy who has ever made me feel loved.
“I will take that under advisement.” I continue to walk back to my friends.
Nick is waiting for my return. Sitting exactly the way I was before I left I got comfortable in his arms.
Zoe scrunches up her face. “What was his oh so important talk today?”
I figure I will do that half truth thing. “There was a break in at home. My dad is taking care of it. No one was hurt, so not really something to worry about. The guys were caught.”
Zoe gets a confused look on her face. “Why didn’t your dad call you?”
“His dad called him. My dad is a little busy with the cops.” That sounds factual enough right? A logical response.
“Oh, well, at least no one was hurt.” Zoe decides to change the subject. “So are you excited about the dance on Saturday?” She gives me a suggestive eyebrow raise.
I chuckle. “You know for once I am.” Nick squeezes me knowing he is the reason why I am looking forward to it. At least I hope he knows.
“Good because I almost have your costume done and it is a piece of work if I do say so myself.” She sits up straighter filled with pride. This earns her a chuckle. “Not only that but I am sure your guy friend here will like it too.
Nick smiles. “I can’t wait to see it.” I can tell what the smile means. It earns him a little chuckle. Nick lays little kisses on my neck. They feel nice.
Chloe pipes up. “So, are there any plans for after the dance?”
“I think I am spending the night at Zoe’s.” I add.
Zoe perks up. “How about all you girls staying the night at my house? A girl’s night. It will be epic.” Sam and Liz perked up too. Our girl nights are so much fun.
Suddenly all us girls are lost in what we are going to do after the dance. This is why these people are my friends.
