CHAPTER 3- Meeting with the Alpha
I have a little happy look on my face as I get to the SUV only to be dashed when I get there and Allison is in my seat. This means I have to sit in the back with Hunter. I got in. Already as pissed as I can get. “Are you serious right now?”
He turns on me. “What the hell are you doing?”
Carlos is listening, but he isn’t saying anything.
“I don’t think it is really any of your business.” I fold my arms over my chest. I am pissed but I don’t think I should really have to explain myself to Hunter of all people.
“A human. Are you crazy? He could find out what we are. You are jeopardizing the whole pack being with him.” He sounds like he is lecturing me. Like he has some authority over me.
“If anyone is going to let him find out what we are it’s you. Really growling at him. I have had human friends for years and I have never let it slip. I think maybe you need to check yourself.” I growl at him. He has no right to tell me what I can do. I am the Alpha not him. When I take over he will have to listen to my direction, not the other way around. It is time for him to learn this lesson.
“I only growled because you didn’t listen to me. I told you to stay clear, you didn’t. You are causing this.” He growls back.
“You have no authority to tell me what to do. You are no one over me. I am the Alpha, you are Beta. If I say I have it under control you have to listen to me. If my father doesn’t have a problem with it then you can’t say shit. So just sit back and enjoy the ride.” I growl out.
“I am not going to just sit back while you put the pack at risk.” He is closer to my face growling at me.
Carlos pipes up now. “Can you two not tear up the seat please. I would have to fix it and I really don’t want to do that.” He just sounds frustrated, not angry.
Allison has to add her two cents too. “Cool it Hunter, you sound like a jilted lover. Let her have her human. It’s not like any wolves will want her.” She rolls her eyes at the two of us.
“Thanks for that gentle reminder Allison. I always love being reminded daily how repulsive all of you think I am.” I growl at her. For someone who wants something from me she sure isn’t acting like it.
Carlos growls at all of us. “That is enough. I will not have insults thrown around this car. I will be reporting all of this to the Alpha. You will all have to answer to him.” None of us really want to report to my father. We all go silent.
I look out the window ignoring Hunter. I watch as the trees thicken. Our pack house comes into sight. As soon as it does I can see my father on the front steps. Carlos must have linked him. He doesn’t look pleased. Once the car is parked we all get out with our heads down. We know we are in trouble.
My father is an imposing figure. He is six foot six, with broad shoulders. He has light brown hair and blue eyes. He is thick too, but it looks all muscle. “I want all three of you in my office now.” Clearly not a suggestion.
We all marched to the Alpha’s office. Knowing that this was not going to be a pleasant conversation, we slumped down in the seats that he had placed around the office. He almost never had one on one meetings so he has several chairs. A big oak desk fits in front of the chairs. A big ass captain-like chair is seated behind it. That is about the only thing that could fit my fathers frame.
He comes in behind us sitting at his large desk. “Now, I already know word for word what happened. I want to know what you three have to say for yourselves.” You three, he is including me in this. I didn’t do anything wrong. I defended myself.
“Dad, I was only defending myself. These two harass me all the time. Now Hunter seems to think he can tell me what to do.” I lean forward. So that he knows I have no regrets over what I did.
“You young lady should have handled things better. You are going to be Alpha, you need to keep the peace in the pack.” He glares at me. Really at me. Ok, dad has lost it. These two are the ones always starting shit.
Hunter sits up straighter, “Sir I was concerned with the pack. That was the only reason why I even said anything.”
My dad turns his glare on him. “Do you think I don’t know of the insults that you and the other wolves throw at my daughter? Do you think I will tolerate you trying to take over my job of telling my daughter who she should be around? You are the Beta’s son, not mine. I will tell my daughter if she is putting the pack in danger. You have no right to tell my daughter what to do.” He lets a little of his power come out in his voice, making it plain to Hunter that he does not appreciate his behavior.
Allison just shuts her mouth. She knows she is in trouble.
My dad sits back. “Jasmine, you I will deal with separately. As for you Hunter, you are overstepping your boundaries. You are going to have double training. You are also going to have to work with the decorators to put together Jasmine’s party next week. Don’t expect to have any free time. Lastly Allison and Hunter for your continued insults to my daughter, you two will be her servants for the next month. Anything that she wants you to do, you will. If there are any problems with this, I am sure there is a harsher punishment I could come up with.” He nods his head to the door, this is his indication that he is done with the two of them. Not that I would ever want Allison and Hunter as my servents. I am much better off acting like they don’t exist.
Allison and Hunter get up and leave the office. Now my dad turns his attention back to me. He gets a little softer but he is still irritated, I can tell. “Jasmine, you should know better than to let your emotions get the better of you. You have to remain composed. You will be Alpha. Sure your mate will be in charge of the pack, but you will be running this pack. I raised you to take over for me.”
“Dad, I know that. I just lost it today. This is the first time a guy has really been interested in me, and Hunter is acting like I am going to tell him all about the pack. I don’t understand where he is getting this attitude. I have always had human friends and I never told one of them about the pack.”
My dad sighed. “It’s not just that Jasmine. I expected you to have dealt with the insults already. You are not changing, it should not be a thing that is going to hold you back, if they walk all over you now then they will not respect you in the future. You need to start putting these wolves in their place. I know it is just the younger wolves but you still need to address this. I stepped in this time, but I know there are plenty of times where I didn’t and you still haven’t put a stop to it. It is time that you let these wolves know how strong you are. You are a leader, you need to assert your authority over them.”
I hang my head, “Yes, father.”
He chuckles a little. “Don’t worry about Hunter, I have a feeling that things will even out with him soon. He knows his duty. For now just do what you need to. Keep this boy at a little bit of a distance as well, you might find your mate next week and I would hate to hear about this boy being crushed.”
I look at my dad. “Dad, let’s be honest when I meet my mate, I am sure I am going to be rejected. Look at me dad. You know I don’t look like the other wolves. I am sure my mate will be disappointed. Especially if it is someone in this pack.”
My dad gets a very sad look on his face. “You know not all wolves are thin. I come from a pack where all the wolves are thick. It isn’t a bad thing. You are just as fast as the other wolves. You train twice as hard. Any wolf would be happy to have you as their mate.”
I roll my eyes, “Not any wolf from this pack. They all tell me that I should have taken after mom. I know the older wolves keep it to themselves but that doesn’t mean I don’t see the looks. None of the wolves around my age want to be around me. Why do you think I have no friends in the pack?”
“Jasmine. You need to make them see beyond what they see with their eyes. You are a great wolf and you will be a great Alpha. You need to make them see it. For now, go do your training. I will see you at dinner.” He points to the door. Clearly he is done. I love my dad, but I am starting to think he thinks too much of his wolves.
