Vivian POV
“What the hell are you doing here?!” I snapped as soon as our eyes locked in contact.
“Vivian” My Mom called but I ignored her, the feeling of joy I had earlier on seeing her vanished, replaced by with intense anger and hatred as the man stood up.
“I repeat again, what are you doing here Alexander”I demanded, voice lacing with pure raging contempt.
“I came to see your Mom Vivian” He replied, feigning a tone of care. I glared daggers at him, hating the air of prestige he held and not minding the presence of the nurse in the room, I spoke out an order” Get out” I said calmly, clenching my fists and supressing the urge to punch his face at the moment, if it was possible, I could’ve pounced and beat the hell out of him until his face bloated with blood.
“Vivian you should calm down, he has something to say” My Mom chipped in, surprising me and I was taken aback. Did she just tell me to calm down? For who exactly? For a man who didn’t care if she was dead or not?
“Are you being serious now Mom? Telling me to calm down for this ungrateful nuisance you call my father?” I yelled, my voice echoing loudly in the room.
“Stop it Vivian, Don’t speak about your father like that no matter what” My Mom snapped, surprising me even farther.
What has my father done to her? Had he brainwashed her for a third time too?
” What are you saying Mom? Are you suddenly up and healthy from surgery just to tell me not to speak like that to a man who wanted dead huh? Are you that dumb mother? He comes for the third time and you stay calm to listen to the baldadash he spills from those rotten lips?” I screamed at my mother, momentarily forgetting that she was just recovering but I was overcome with anger especially at the fact that my father must have brainwashed her yet again just to win her back, then afterwards break her.
My father had done it the first time, the very day he kicked us out of the house and brought in Mary and his mother as a replacement was the day I disowned him, ceasing to be my father but then, he had come crawling back months later to my mother, asking for forgiveness and telling her that Mary and her mother had only manipulated him and without second thoughts, my mother had ran back into his arms despite all the earful I gave her.
My mother came from an influential family that dealt with iron ores and each time my father needed to secure a tie, he would use my mother as the bait and she would stake her shares, not minding if it would drop or make her loose her shares but thankfully, all of it had been successful. When my father had successfully secured the tie from a company, he kicked her out again for the second time.
Now here he was, with the same motive and my Mom was utterly blinded by those deceitful tear drops in his eyes. I knew my father very well, I knew when he was truly apologetic and as the proud esteemed man he was, I knew he would never want my Mom back if not to help secure another tie for his company to grow.
Oh, truly he was shameless! He hadn’t even cared if she was sick, being hospitalized or not, what mattered to him was his desperate ambitions and this time around, I won’t let that happen.
How could he be as desperate as a fool to come to the hospital to sugar-coat my just recovering Mom? Over the past three years, my Mom fell sick, I had been the one catering for her needs, everything, every bills singlehandedly since I didn’t want to involve any connections to her health. I had ways to sort out help extravagantly, and if I had wanted that expensive lifestyle then I would’ve either ran to my Mom’s family or to my grandfather whose arms is always open to welcome me anytime yet I didn’t want any of that. I believed in God and hard-work, I believed in self-achievement and actualization.
” Vivian, I’m truly sorry for everything, every pain I’ve caused both you and your mother all these years and I promise to turn a new leaf” He began, seeming heartbroken but deep within, I could sense the sarcasms in those pleas.
“You promise?” I repeated the words which tasted distasteful on my tongue. It was just as if he was mocking us right to our face.
“Yes I promise,” He replied, thinking that perhaps, his words had sank in to my mind.
” You’re making a promise not to leave like we need you don’t you think so? Like we crave for you right? How many times have you said this same words in three years?”I asked and I saw a glint of something flicker through his eyes; Yes! His patience was slowly wearing off!
“Tell me Alexander,” I stepped closer towards him, our heights almost the same. “Did you think I would let you fool mother for the third time? Then you came at the wrong time this time around” I said in a warning voice ” If you know what is good for you, turn around this instant and use that door over there” I bashed, extending my fingers towards the door with my gaze still stuck on him.
“Go back, tell whoever it is this time that your antics didn’t work out, be it Mary or her mother. Now get out this minute because you didn’t foot one bill of the money paid for her to stay here” I commanded dangerously, a different kind of flame coursing through me.
I was ready to bring out that hidden part of me if pushed further and things might really not end well for either of us.
He turned and glanced at my mother and with a sigh, he walked past me out of the door.
