Vivian POV
“I am not forgetting anything Max, I’ll take my leave now. ” I said with brevity, turned and then strode out. As soon as I reached the outside door, I released a long breath that I had been holding for long. Truth be told, Max’s question had caught me off guard and for a moment, I had thought he had already discovered the heavy truth.
I touched my belly, feeling the calmness of the fetus in me and I sighed. It was for the better after all and I would protect my baby.
I walked further down the road, dragging my suitcase alongside as I tried to hail down a cab and instantly I realized I wasn’t with my phone.
Oh Goodness gracious! What the fuck is wrong with me! I immediately dashed back into the mansion, leaving the suitcase behind in a desperate pace.
Max knew my phone password, what if he unlocks my phone?
My heart raced with trepidation as I lurched faster through the stairs and instantly pushed the door open.
And right there, Max held my phone in his hands, glancing intently at whatever it was. I knew that whatever it is he was staring at was crucial until he lifted his head towards me, his eyes bearing a hard dominance.
“Your mom got cancer Vivian?” He asked, his tone laced with shock, his expression seemed to have softened or perhaps it was what I imagined in my head because the Max I knew would never care for anything about me. Silence stretched between us, our gazes locked onto each other but at the moment, I cared less if he found out or not. We were already Divorced and I had nothing to do with him anymore.
“Give it back” I said after mustering enough courage within myself. Max didn’t move, he just stood there at the spot, rooted, his gaze hardening even more that I wondered if he was raged at my request.
I swallowed hard, darting my eyes to anywhere but him. There was something in his expression that gave me the bumps but I held in, fisting on my palms together and walked towards where he stood.
“Please give it back Max” I bellowed again, stretching my hands towards his but he withdrew faster, ceasing the phone completely behind him.
In that moment, I felt eager to snatch it away from him and leave as soon as possible. I stepped on my toes, lifting myself higher to his height in a stance to grab it but he took his hands higher, making it impossible for my reach. I sighed, recollected myself and leaped down.
“You know what. You can have the phone if you want Max, I’ll get a new one” I said and turned sharply to walk out but he grabbed me by the waist immediately, catching me off guard and I whirled around and fell on his chest as he trapped me heavily.
“What the Fuck Max! Let go of me!” I snapped angrily at his actions, my emotions already riling with anger. I didn’t even understand what he was playing at.
Why he would suddenly become interested in my mess!
“You have more secrets than I thought Vivian. Tell me is there more that I should know?” He questioned closely to my earlobes, forcing out those tingles I dreaded and never want to feel again for him. He knew exactly how to get on my weak spot but in all these years of our marriage, I never knew nor found out what his weak spot was, not like we were that close except for sex comfort.
“Let me go this moment Max!” I yelled again, forcing his hands away to wriggle out of his hold and finally he gave in and let me out.
“Don’t you ever try this with me again Max. We have nothing together anymore and if you must know. We’re Divorced! And you’re free. The freedom you’ve always asked for Max, so have it with your girlfriend! Do you understand?” I yelled heavily, patching my eyes together from breaking down in front of him as I angrily stormed out of the room. As soon as I reached outside, I slumped down to the floor in tears. The pent-up emotions poured down, weighing heavily on my heart.
I cried for a few moments until a red Ferrari pulled off in front me. Blinking back my tears from covering my vision, I was shocked to see the person who stepped out of the car.
“Vivian”
