The next few months were a slow recovery for Mrs Beatrice with the support and love of her family.
With the constant reassurance and love of Rafael, and the entire family, she was gradually becoming stronger which was good news for the extended family who were finally in unity.
Rafael returned to work and in a matter of three months, Ambrose Corporation was able to make a startling profit of over seven hundred billion, quickly retaking their position as one of the top corporations in the world.
June was not left to the side, JL Architectures were making waves with the new South City project up and running and the public support.
June and Rafael made their relationship public, garnering the support of the masses who followed, adored and loved the powerful couple.
The news raved about how they survived the ghastly accident, their journey as a couple and their unconditional love for each other.
Everything progressed well and on Luis’s birthday, his parents and family showered him with lots of gifts and love.
One of which was the news of June legally adopting him as her child. The family held a small gathering in the Ambrose family house and it was a combined celebration of Luis’s birthday and Mrs Beatrice’s discharge from the hospital.
Luis stared at the document in his hands with pure joy radiating through him. June stood by Rafael’s side, nervous to see how her little baby would take to the news.
“You are my mommy,” Luis said with an awed expression, earning swoons from the guests.
“Yes, baby.” June squatted to his side. “Will you be my child?”
While the words were still in her mouth, Luis attacked her with a hug that nearly sent her to the floor.
“Yes! Yes! Yes!” He exclaimed, full of joy. “Best birthday present ever!”
The others watched in awe at how Luis easily transformed into a lovely young boy at the sight of June. They were indeed a match made in heaven.
The rest of the night was delightful, Luis never left June’s side, calling her mommy now and then, leaning into her and occasionally placing soft kisses on her palm.
All of this soon became a thorn in Rafael’s flesh who wanted to have his wife to himself.
“She is my wife,” Rafael said to Luis who held on to June, refusing to let go even after the day’s event. “You need to learn boundaries.”
“She is my mother,” Luis stated with an aloof expression. “You need to learn to share.”
June chuckled as her two favourite people in the world went against each other.
“You’ve had her the entire night! It’s bedtime and you should go to your room.” Rafael said to his son who stood stubbornly at the door of his parent’s room.
“You’ve had her sleeping in your room all this while.” Luis said, “It’s my birthday!” He said, demanding to have his way.
Rafael looked fed up and June got in the middle. She turned to Luis with a sweet smile and littered kisses on his face.
“I know sweetie, daddy is such a controlling freak isn’t he?”
Rafael – !!!
“I promise to take time off work and hang out with you the entire day.” She buttered him up, “Will you please be the bigger person and let it go today?”
She said with a pout. “Huh, baby?”
“You promise?” He asked with doe eyes that made her swoon.
“Pinky swear,” June said assuredly, and he grudgingly let her go. “That’s my boy.” June praised, sealing it with a forehead kiss.
June escorted Luis to his room, laying him to bed. Afterwards, she returned to her room, meeting a bare-chested Rafael seated by the tip of the bed.
“Control freak, huh?” He asked with a raised brow, drawing a smile off June.
“Did I lie, Mr Control Freak?” She teased, waking up to him with a sultry smile.
“Of course not.” He got up from the bed, “In fact, I’d love to demonstrate a bit of control tonight.”
Rafael smirked as he caught her by the waist. “It’s a special night after all.”
June beat him to the game, pressing her lips against his and they took it up from there – mindlessly exploring each other until June felt a bile in her throat and pushed him back in desperate need of air.
“Are you okay?” Rafael asked, flipping from hot to concerned within seconds.
June couldn’t speak, she rushed to the toilet, emptying her stomach of the night’s food while Rafael patted her back until she was good, wordlessly taking care of her and tucking her to bed.
“It’s probably something I ate,” June said, noticing her husband’s worrisome countenance. “I’m fine.”
Rafael couldn’t help the fear that stroked his heart. He couldn’t survive it if anything happened to his wife.
“Carson will be here tomorrow morning.” He kissed her forehead. “Just to make sure.”
The duo slept in each other’s arms and true to his words, Carson showed up the next morning to do a check on June.
“What is it?” Rafael asked as he escorted his friend. “And don’t even think about lying to me.” His tone was firm, leaving no room for refusal.
“I need to carry out the tests to get sure,” Carson said. “Calm down. The results will be out by evening.”
June was not allowed to work that day. Rafael fussed over her, an act that warmed her heart and frustrated her.
“I am alright,” June said for the eleventh time in a few hours.
“We’ll be sure when Carson returns.” Rafael insists. “Eat.” He urged, spoon-feeding her at lunch.
The house bell rang and soon, Carson stood before them with a smile. June sighed in relief upon seeing Carson.
“Please, tell him I am fine.” She said and Rafael rolled his eyes.
“What is going on, Carson?” Rafael’s attention was arrested.
“Congratulations,” Carson said with a smile, handing over an envelope. “She is three months pregnant.”
“W-what?” Rafael stuttered, and June grabbed the envelope, going through it with shaking hands.
“B-But… my womb… it can’t be..” Her voice was shaky and she felt unable to believe her eyes.
“I thought so too,” Carson said. “It’s a miracle. We will need to carry out more tests but I believe your body healed up while in a coma.”
June blinked back tears, looking up to Rafael who stared at the results with shock evident in his face.
“You were able to scale the first trimester with your baby intact, which is nothing short of a miracle.”
Carson went on to explain the need for June to visit the hospital as soon as possible, detailing how careful she needed to be and other medical jargon which Rafael listened to the latter.
“I’m pregnant,” June said after Carson left the house, eyes never leaving her test results.
Rafael held her close, with a tender approach. They looked down at her stomach in one accord.
“We are pregnant.”
