Kael
I turned the entire town upside down, and still, I couldn’t find Seraphina.
For the first time, I regretted giving her that potion to erase her scent. If her scent hadn’t been masked, we could have tracked her down by now. But now, there was nothing-no leads, no way forward. The frustration made my head throb.
Should I go to my father and ask him where Seraphina might have gone? No, he wouldn’t help me. In fact, he’d probably mock me, saying that letting Seraphina leave like this was for the best.
The thought made me scowl. I hated feeling so powerless.
Suddenly, an idea struck me-I could ask Evelyn.
After getting her contact information, I called her.
“Evelyn, it’s Kael. Where are you right now? Can we meet?”
There was a stunned silence on the other end before Evelyn’s voice trembled, “Kael… you… why are you calling me?”
“I need to see you. Seraphina is missing. Can you help me? Maybe use your divination to locate her?”
I had always sensed Evelyn’s medium-like abilities from the first time we met. Back then, when I was pursuing Seraphina, I had investigated the people around her. Evelyn wasn’t just an ordinary girl-her abilities made her the perfect person to turn to now.
“Seraphina is missing?!” Evelyn’s tone was immediately filled with concern. “Wait a moment. Let me try to divine her location.”
I didn’t hang up. My heart was racing, my patience thin. If not for the risks of exposing my identity, I would have already gone to her in person instead of waiting like a fool.
After what felt like an eternity, Evelyn’s voice returned. “I see her. She’s likely southeast of here, in a desolate area with many trees.”
“Got it. Thank you, Evelyn,” I said, ending the call.
I quickly informed Marek of the situation. I needed his help. One thing was clear-I had to find Seraphina.
Magnus would harm her. Worse, he might erase her memories entirely, turning her into his pawn. That explained the sudden influx of werewolves in the town. They were all Magnus’s creations.
Seraphina had once told me that Magnus admired the power of werewolves. At the time, we thought his fascination was harmless. But now, it was clear we had underestimated him. Magnus wasn’t just an admirer of werewolves-he was one himself.
And not just any werewolf. Magnus was extraordinarily skilled-a master in medicine, potions, and curses. He was no ordinary rogue wolf. No, he had to be from another tribe, someone of high standing.
With this realization, I sent my father a signal: “The town has been infiltrated by werewolves from another tribe. Their abilities are powerful, and they’re skilled in medicine. You should investigate this immediately.”
Then, I sprinted toward the direction Evelyn had indicated. I had to find Seraphina.
As I navigated through the forest, two black-furred wolves suddenly appeared in front of me. Their vicious eyes glared at us as they bared their teeth.
Marek and I immediately summoned our own wolves and charged at them.
These wolves seemed weak-not fully transformed. They were likely humans who had just turned into wolves and hadn’t yet mastered their form. It didn’t take long to overpower them. In moments, they collapsed to the ground, reverting to their human shapes.
Marek and I exchanged a glance and continued forward.
We were on the right track. These wolves wouldn’t have been here otherwise-they were trying to stop us.
As if to confirm my thoughts, four more wolves emerged from the shadows.
“Kael,” Marek called out, “there are going to be more of them ahead. They’re trying to block our path.”
“I know,” I replied. “Let’s finish this quickly. No delays.”
But this time, the fight was harder.
The four wolves were stronger, and they worked together. When Marek and I charged at them, two wolves darted aside while the other two lunged at us.
The first pair aimed for our throats, forcing us to dodge, but the second pair attacked from behind, targeting our legs.
It was a coordinated assault-one pair focused on our upper bodies while the other aimed for our lower bodies.
I managed to evade them, but when I turned, I saw Marek being flung several meters away by one of the wolves.
While one wolf pursued Marek, the remaining three surrounded me.
Damn it. I clenched my teeth, aware of how dire the situation was. But for Seraphina, I would endure anything.
“Shadow, we have to fight through this,” I said to my wolf. “We need to break free and keep going. Seraphina is in danger.”
“I know, Kael.” Shadow growled fiercely. “These pests are nothing to me.”
Shadow lunged, throwing one of the wolves aside with brutal force. But even he wasn’t unscathed-blood streaked his fur.
The remaining two wolves attacked together, only to meet the same fate. Shadow flung them away with equal brutality.
Without wasting a moment, I sprinted forward again.
I was getting closer. I could feel it. Seraphina was near.
But as I pressed on, more werewolf silhouettes appeared ahead of me.
They blocked my path, their eyes gleaming with hostility.
I frowned, but I didn’t stop.
No matter how many stood in my way, I would tear through them all. I was going to find Seraphina.
