Leah’s expression turned somber as she sighed and said, “I guess it makes sense. Now that you have someone like Miss Faulkner by your side, why would you ever go back to a woman who once hurt you?”
“No, your sister is incomparable to anyone.”
Kayden refused to compare Georgia to Wood Faulkner-or to anyone else.
Georgia was a woman who occupied an irreplaceable position in his heart. If it weren’t for her unwavering presence during those three years, he couldn’t begin to imagine what he might have become after his recovery.
Perhaps, consumed by the pain of his injuries, he would have become angrier, more bloodthirsty, treating human lives as insignificant as ants. The wounds in his heart might have amplified into something monstrous during that time.
Or perhaps, he might not have survived at all. His enemies could have taken him out during those three years.
Despite the humiliation and disdain he suffered in the Adams family, Georgia had never despised him. She not only allowed him to sleep beside her but also shared her innermost grievances with him every night.
Maybe it was listening to Georgia’s sorrows and confessions that calmed the chaos within him, reminding him that love and kindness still existed in the world.
To Kayden, Georgia wasn’t just important-she had changed his very nature and taught him how to rebuild himself. Her significance was unparalleled.
In his heart, Georgia was the one and only.
Hearing Kayden’s words, Leah seemed to understand, though not fully. But she caught a glimpse of reluctance in his eyes.
Maybe Kayden had always loved her sister. After all, they had been married for three years. How could love simply vanish? Leah had always felt sympathy for her sister, whose love story with Kayden was fraught with hardship. Truth be told, she pitied Georgia, who had been manipulated by their mother.
Thinking about the money displayed on stage made Leah seethe with anger toward her mother.
“Kayden,” Leah hesitated before asking, “if my sister was forced into all this, would you still refuse to remarry her?”
Kayden fell silent. He didn’t answer her question this time. Instead, he continued walking under the streetlights.
Leah followed quietly, watching his back. She wanted to say something but ultimately held her tongue.
After walking for a while, Leah suddenly broke the silence. “Kayden, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”
Kayden nodded. “What is it? Go ahead.”
Leah swallowed hard and said, “I… I don’t want to go to school anymore. I want to find a job and stay here in Inassea, close to you. Can you help me with that?”
Kayden hesitated. “Why don’t you want to go to school? Isn’t your school in Inassea?”
Leah shook her head. “No, I transferred. After everything that happened, I applied to a school in Zlando. But then everything changed, and I cut ties with my family. There’s no point in staying with them. So I want to stay here. Can you find something for me to do? Even just part-time work, as long as I’m not bored.”
“Zlando?” Kayden murmured, pausing for a few seconds. “Then go to Zlando and finish your studies. You don’t need to work; just focus on your education. As for money, don’t worry-I’ll take care of it.”
Leah bit her lip, shaking her head. “No, I can’t just use your money. You and my sister aren’t together anymore. If I keep using your money, wouldn’t that be…”
“Enough!” Kayden interrupted her. “I’m telling you to go to school, so go to school. Right now, you should be enjoying your university life. If you don’t, you’ll regret it later.”
“But…” Leah hesitated. “What if I don’t know anyone in Zlando? What if people bully me? You know what I’m like.”
“Don’t worry,” Kayden said calmly. “I’ll be going to Zlando as well.”
He hadn’t forgotten the file John had given him or Maddox Hale. This trip to Zlando was inevitable.
Leah’s eyes widened with excitement. “Kayden, are you going to Zlando for me?”
Before Kayden could reply, Leah grinned and said, “You’re so good to me. If you weren’t my brother-in-law, I’d definitely marry you!”
“Enough nonsense. Get ready and go to school.”
“Yes, yes.”
The two continued walking under the dim streetlights. As they walked, Leah kept asking questions.
“Kayden, are you really not the boss of Inassea’s underground world?”
“Kayden, is that guy named Eagle really one of your subordinates?”
“Kayden, are you sure you’re not going to Zlando for me?”
“Kayden…”
When they finally returned to the apartment, Kayden received a phone call from Mike Johnson.
On the other end of the line, Mike’s voice was filled with excitement, almost incoherent. “Master! Master, you’re incredible! Absolutely incredible! You’re like a godsend to me!”
“I’m back! I’ve completely recovered! Truly, I’ve never felt this way before!”
Kayden could tell from Mike’s voice that he had regained his confidence. It wasn’t the bravado he showed to others but a genuine, deep-rooted strength.
“Master, on the first night, I managed seven times! Even when I was young, I couldn’t do that. You’ve completely transformed me! The second night, three times, and again last night, three times. At first, I didn’t dare tell you-I thought it might just be psychological. But now, after three days of this, I’m convinced! Not only have I recovered, but I’m stronger than ever before!”
“Now my wife listens to my every word. It’s like I’ve gone from hell to heaven overnight!”
“Master, I know you don’t need anything. I won’t send you anything cliche, but from now on, if you ever need anything from me, Mike Johnson, I’ll do it without hesitation!”
Kayden understood Mike’s excitement. It was like finding out that someone you thought was dead was still alive-a feeling of being pulled from despair into hope.
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Kayden ended the call. To him, it had been a small favor, hardly worth mentioning. Whether or not he gained Mike Johnson’s allegiance didn’t matter much to him.
A few minutes after the call ended, his phone rang again.
This time, a young girl’s crying voice came through the line.
“Daddy… Daddy, where are you? They’re hitting me. They’re hitting Mommy. The bad guys are hurting Mommy!”
“Please help us, Daddy! Help us!”
“Sob… sob…”
