Hearing those words, Mr. Kane’s expression shifted slightly. This was his boss’s woman. He had been tasked with guarding her, and now someone dared to bully her? Could he tolerate that?
Of course not!
After giving the bald man a once-over, he arrogantly asked, “Brother, where are you from? Name your affiliation. You can’t touch this woman-she’s my boss’s woman. My boss may not be here, but I’ll protect her in his stead.”
There was no denying it-Mr. Kane exuded the aura of a local tyrant. Clearly, he had been completely subdued by Kayden. The words Kayden had spoken to him last time lingered in his mind. Here, in this land of fruit, he had to ensure Felicity’s safety. If anything happened to her, Kayden would make him pay dearly.
To this day, he still couldn’t forget Kayden’s commanding presence and domineering ways.
After speaking, he turned to Felicity and said, “Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, nothing will happen to you.”
Hearing the infamous Mr. Kane refer to her as “Kayden’s woman” made Felicity’s face flush red, as if she had turned into a ripe apple, ready to burst with juice at the lightest touch.
The bald man scanned Mr. Kane up and down, furrowing his brows slightly before letting out a single word: “Scram!”
Hearing the command, Mr. Kane burst into laughter. “Scram? You want me to scram? Do you even know who I am? Did you not ask around about my reputation before coming here? Huh?”
The young man who had been beaten earlier immediately chimed in, “Let me tell you! Mr. Kane was once a legendary figure in Vernon, a bloody storm of a man! With just a watermelon knife, he stained Corruption Street red. He single-handedly took down 108 men, endured 13 stab wounds, and still stood tall. If you’ve heard of Mr. Kane’s name, you’d better scram now! Otherwise, death is the only thing waiting for you.”
“Idiot,” the bald man muttered, barely moving his lips, before striding toward Mr. Kane.
Clearly, this kind of posturing meant nothing to the bald man. To him, it was nothing more than laughable bluster.
Seeing this, Mr. Kane’s men rushed forward to stand between him and the bald man, all of them brandishing their weapons.
But the bald man clenched his fists, swinging left and right at Mr. Kane’s men. Within three minutes, the 20 or so men who had surrounded him were all sprawled on the ground, unconscious.
Without hesitation, the bald man stepped forward and delivered a powerful kick to Mr. Kane.
The kick sent Mr. Kane flying, and he fell to the ground, writhing in pain and letting out anguished groans. Lying there, he felt utterly defeated. How could he be so unlucky lately? This was the second time he’d been beaten up in such a short period.
The bald man, clearly a trained fighter, had an overwhelming advantage against a group of street brawlers like Mr. Kane’s men.
After taking down Mr. Kane and his crew, the bald man approached Felicity once again. His voice was calm as he said, “Felicity, can you come with us now?”
It was as if he believed that Felicity’s protectors were nothing more than useless drunks and fools. With them defeated, there was no one left to resist.
Felicity shook her head and said, “I don’t know who you are. Why are you trying to take me?”
“We don’t need a reason to take you. Move!” The bald man’s tone turned harsh as he waved his hand.
Two of his men stepped forward and grabbed Felicity without hesitation.
Felicity’s mother, seeing this, grabbed a spoon and charged at them. As she ran, she shouted, “Let go of Felicity! Let her go!”
But before she could reach them, one of the men casually waved his hand and sent her sprawling to the ground.
“Felicity! Felicity!” her mother cried out in pain.
“Mom! Mom!” Felicity’s voice trembled with worry as she was dragged away. No matter how hard she struggled or resisted, it was useless-she was just a young girl.
“Let me go! Let me go! I won’t go with you! Get away from me!” Felicity screamed, her body trembling with fear.
Just as the men thought they had her under control, a sudden light burst out from Felicity’s body.
With a loud boom, the two men holding her were thrown backward.
They landed heavily on the ground, blood spurting from their mouths. Within moments, they were dead. The sight made the bald man shudder.
What just happened? How could this woman be so deadly? What was that thing just now?
Felicity was just as stunned. She had no idea what had just erupted from her body.
But something definitely had.
She fumbled with her hands, searching her body, and eventually pulled out a hard object. When she held it in her hand, she saw that it was a pure white jade pendant. It was this pendant that had emitted the light.
It was Kayden’s pendant-the one he had given to her mother to pass on to her before he left.
Once again, Kayden had saved her. Even though he wasn’t by her side, it was still him.
“Felicity, are you okay?” Her mother rushed over to check on her.
Felicity shook her head. “I’m fine, Mom.”
“It was this jade pendant that saved me!” Felicity said, holding up the pendant. She wanted to say, See? Even when Kayden isn’t here, he’s still thinking of me.
Her mother sighed deeply and said, “I know what you’re thinking. I never intended to blame Kayden. After all, he’s our family’s savior. But have you thought about this? What happened today-will it happen again tomorrow? And the day after? And the day after that…?”
Her words carried an unspoken criticism of Kayden.
Felicity clutched the pendant tightly, shaking her head gently. She didn’t care about any of that.
But where was Kayden now? Why had it been so long since he last came to see her?
