Chapter 945: The Past of Scott Chilton

“Ah? You are not…?”
Both Carter Landford and Flynn were stunned.
Not married, but they both live in Emperorsgate Northview?
Oh, right!
The Raven King had mentioned that Olive lived next to Mr. Chilton’s thatched cottage.
They didn’t share the same house.
Olive’s expression turned slightly downcast, but she explained nonetheless:
“His wife was my sister. Forty years ago, she was killed at Emperorsgate by Asher Pearce due to a grudge in the martial world.”
“At that time, Scott’s cultivation level was higher than Asher’s, but my sister’s death disrupted his state of mind. He lost the duel against Asher Pearce…”
“What?” Carter Landford, who had been pouring himself a drink, suddenly looked up at the old man in shock.
“Are you-are you the legendary Sword Saint of fifty years ago? Known across the martial world as the White-Clad Sword God, Scott Chilton?”
“Fifty years… and they still remember my name.” Scott Chilton didn’t look up, sipping a cup of wine calmly.
Carter Landford was too stunned to sit still.
He sprang to his feet, his face full of awe.
“How could anyone forget! You were a legend of our generation!”
“Self-taught in swordsmanship from a young age, breaking through to Great Grandmaster at sixteen, Lesser Sovereign at eighteen, and Greater Sovereign at twenty. By twenty-seven, you achieved Earthly Sovereign!”
“At thirty-two, you glimpsed the realm of Heavenly Sovereign!”
“You were one of the Twin Swords of the North and South alongside Asher Pearce!”
“You dominated the Dragon Ranking from age twenty for ten years straight! By thirty, you were in the top three of the Dragon Ranking!”
“And especially at forty, in that famous duel with Asher Pearce-one sword that split the heavens! The world unanimously hailed you as the number one of the Dragon Ranking!”
“Every time that legendary battle is mentioned, only two words come to mind: breathtaking! Absolutely breathtaking!”
“At forty, you ascended to Heavenly Sovereign-a Blademaster Heavenly Sovereign! The number one of the Dragon Ranking, an unparalleled genius in eight hundred years! No one before you, and no one after-”
“No matter how impressive, didn’t I still lose in the end?” Scott Chilton’s tone was indifferent as he interrupted. “My cultivation plummeted after that, and it took me twenty years to recover. Now, I’m barely an Earthly Sovereign Blademaster.”
Olive chuckled softly and turned to Flynn. “Scott was indeed unmatched in his time. But as for those who came after, that honor belongs to Adrianna’s son.”
Flynn didn’t respond to her words. Instead, he fixed his gaze on the elderly man, his tone sharp with killing intent.
“Mr. Chilton, I’ll go to Emperorsgate today and kill Asher Pearce for you!”
“Kill?” Scott Chilton shot him a sideways glance. “You brat, if my generation’s grudges were so easily settled by someone like you, wouldn’t that be far too insulting?”
“This is not your concern! Once I’ve recovered, I’ll settle things myself!”
Flynn had no choice but to let it go.
Scott Chilton took a few bites of food before addressing Flynn again.
“I’m old. You’ve learned a great deal from that mad old man and are said to be invincible in the mortal realm.”
“I can finally rest easy. From now on, anything concerning your mother, I leave entirely in your hands.”
Flynn raised an eyebrow. “Mr. Chilton, you know about what happened on Demon Island?”
“I looked into it,” Scott Chilton replied, raising an eyebrow slightly and saying in a calm tone, “I had intended to rescue you, but when I heard you’d become that lunatic’s apprentice, I decided against it.”
“You know my master?” Flynn poured Scott Chilton a drink himself.
“Not exactly,” Scott replied, shaking his head. “He doesn’t belong to the mortal world. He’s incredibly strong. Before I turned forty, I wanted to challenge him, but he didn’t even bother acknowledging me.”
Hearing this, Carter Landford’s eyes nearly popped out of his head.
Scott Chilton, before the age of forty, was considered invincible!
And yet, that mad old man didn’t even take him seriously!
But thinking about it, it made sense.
The Dragon Ranking, the Path of the Warrior Ranking, and even the military’s Heavenly Ranking did not encompass all the strongest practitioners of martial arts.
Some individuals existed outside these rankings, yet their strength was undeniable-even surpassing those at the top of the Heavenly Ranking.
Ostrad was vast and full of hidden talents. There was no shortage of reclusive masters.
Even someone like Scott Chilton, a Greater Sovereign, avoided getting entangled in worldly affairs. So what about those hidden powerhouses?
Take Ostrad’s wealth rankings as an example. Was the richest man truly the richest?
There were countless hidden tycoons, many wealthier than the so-called richest man.
Carter Landford shuddered at the thought.
Mr. Chilton was the number one on the Dragon Ranking forty years ago. But Lord Valerian Nox’s master was even more terrifying, and Lord Valerian Nox himself was a monster in his own right.
Lord Valerian Nox had maxed out every advantage imaginable!
Olive picked up where Scott Chilton left off, saying, “Child, your mother began her training under Scott at the age of four and studied with him until she was eighteen…”
It turned out-
When Adrianna was eighteen, she went home after her training. Shortly after, Scott Chilton received news of the Dragon Seal’s destruction.
By the time he arrived, the Dragon Seal had already become ruins. Flynn’s grandfather, Giovanny Noble, was dead.
The Noble family was nearly wiped out. The city was littered with corpses, not a single soul survived.
Scott Chilton began searching for Adrianna.
He quickly identified the culprit behind the Dragon Seal’s destruction-Greengate.
But Greengate was elusive. Their movements were impossible to track, and Scott Chilton couldn’t find Adrianna’s whereabouts.
Ten years ago, Adrianna appeared at Emperorsgate. But Scott Chilton and Olive were away at the time, searching for her elsewhere.
She left a note for Scott Chilton, asking her master to look after Matteo and the others in Niarak and mentioning that she was going abroad.
When Scott Chilton went to find her, there was no trace of Adrianna. The trail went cold from that point onward.
For the next ten years, he scoured the world, traversing the five continents and seven oceans, but the information he found was scant.
The only certainty was that Adrianna hadn’t fallen into Greengate’s hands-she wasn’t dead.
At least, she hadn’t died at Greengate’s hands.
Because Greengate was also searching for Adrianna.
“From the limited information I’ve gathered over the years, it’s possible your mother is on some island.”
“But the world is vast. Humanity hasn’t even fully explored the Amazon rainforest, let alone the seven oceans.”
“And the world as seen by mortals isn’t the whole picture. Some places are hidden in the mist.”
“But I’m certain Greengate knows more. The problem is, they’re hidden far too well.”
“Even the few members of Greengate I’ve encountered were just minor figures. I have no clue about their leadership or headquarters.”
Scott Chilton turned to Flynn and asked, “The Raven King said you’re tracking the Hussain family. Their master is part of Greengate. Have they appeared yet?”
“Soon. In no more than three days,” Flynn replied.
Scott Chilton nodded, downed a cup of yellow wine, and said, “Good! Then we’ll wait. I have a feeling that Greengate won’t send anyone low-level this time.”
“Exactly!” Flynn’s eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing within them. “To summon over a hundred Grandmasters so quickly after learning about my mother’s whereabouts-it’s definitely a big fish.”
“But I still don’t understand why that mysterious figure wants Dragon Slayer Powder.”
Dragon Slayer Powder-a poison that even Earthly Sovereigns couldn’t withstand.
Once consumed, it suppressed internal energy and halved one’s power.
It wasn’t necessary to kill ordinary people.
And with Greengate’s immense power, they wouldn’t need poison to kill an Earthly Sovereign.
Scott Chilton understood Flynn’s confusion. Raising his eyebrows, he proposed an audacious idea:
“What if it’s to deal with an incredibly strong rival faction?”
“Incredibly strong?” Flynn looked up sharply, frowning. “Is there really a force in this world that can rival Greengate?”
Scott Chilton didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he began to explain slowly:
“There’s a city on Dragon Seal called Snow Spring Valley. It has a permanent population of over ten thousand.”
“They survive by fishing and are almost entirely cut off from modern society. Every resident is a practitioner.”
“There are many Greater Sovereigns among them. Your grandfather was a Semi-Heavenly Sovereign-a man of remarkable strength.”
“Their city flag bears the emblem of a phoenix. Do you know what symbol Greengate’s banner carries?”
