Chapter Thirty

Book:Stella: The Unwanted Mate Published:2025-4-9

The next day dawned, bright and full of promise. Stella, preparing for her date with Theo, felt a flutter of excitement in her chest. The floral dress she wore felt both unfamiliar and exhilarating; it was a first, a step into a new, uncharted territory.
Emerging from her room, she found her father, Remus, in the living room, his gaze warm and observant. “Theo’s picking you up?” he asked, his voice a gentle inquiry.
Stella nodded, her smile reflecting her happiness. “I’ll be back before dinner,” she promised, her voice clear and confident. The sound of a car pulling up outside interrupted them. “I’m going!” she announced, her steps light and eager as she headed towards the front door, ready to embrace the unknown.
Theo, meticulously checking his reflection in the mirror, was caught off guard by the opening door. Stella emerged from the house, a vision in her floral dress, her beauty unexpectedly striking.
“Wow,” he murmured to himself, his eyes lingering on her as she walked towards his car. Instinct took over, and he rushed to open the door for her, his charm effortless and genuine.
Stella, caught off guard by his sudden appearance, gasped softly. “Oh!” she exclaimed, her surprise evident as she watched him open the car door with a courteous grace. “Thank you,” she added, her voice a soft murmur of gratitude.
Theo simply nodded, a small, almost shy gesture that somehow amplified his charm. She slid into the car, leaving Theo to return to the driver’s seat.
Once inside, Stella couldn’t resist expressing her surprise. “You didn’t need to do that,” she said, her voice a mixture of gratitude and gentle teasing.
Theo’s smile was warm and genuine. “Why not?” he asked, his eyes twinkling with amusement. He started the engine, his gaze lingering on her for a moment before speaking again. “You look great,” he complimented, his words simple yet sincere.
Stella, taken aback by his straightforward compliment, could only manage a shy, “Thank you,” her heart fluttering at his unexpected charm.
Theo steered the car, the route unfamiliar to Stella, a pleasant sense of mystery filling the air. “What did you tell your father?” Theo asked, his voice casual yet attentive.
Stella’s response was immediate, a confident declaration: “He’s fine with it, as long as I’m with you.” The words hung in the air for a moment, their implication dawning on her. She glanced at Theo, her cheeks flushing slightly.
Theo’s smile was warm and encouraging. “Really?” he asked, his tone playful yet sincere.
Stella, realizing her impulsive honesty, attempted to backtrack. “Gosh! I mean, he trusts you a lot,” she stammered, her attempt at a correction slightly clumsy.
Theo shook his head, his smile widening. “It’s fine, Stella,” he reassured her, his gaze lingering on her for a moment.
Stella took a deep breath, the tension easing slightly. “Okay,” she replied, a small smile playing on her lips.
The car came to a halt in front of a prestigious restaurant, its elegant facade a stark contrast to Stella’s initial nervousness. She looked at Theo, her eyes questioning. “Are we eating here?” she asked, her tone a mixture of surprise and apprehension.
Theo nodded, his expression serious. “Why? Don’t you like it?” he asked, his concern genuine.
Stella hesitated, choosing her words carefully. “I don’t like the vibe,” she explained, her tone gentle but firm.
Theo’s smile returned, this time laced with understanding. “Then we’ll go somewhere else,” he said, restarting the engine.
Stella’s relief was evident. “I didn’t say that to change-” she began, her words unfinished, the unspoken understanding between them hanging in the air.
Theo’s voice, calm and reassuring, broke through Stella’s apprehension. “Hey, it’s fine. I respect your decision. I want you to enjoy this day,” he said, his words gentle and considerate.
Stella, touched by his understanding, fell silent, her thoughts swirling. After a moment of reflection, a sincere “Thank you” escaped her lips, her gratitude genuine and heartfelt.
The car resumed its journey, the silence comfortable rather than awkward. Stella, wanting to engage Theo but hesitant to initiate the conversation, gazed out the window, her thoughts a mixture of relief and anticipation. The car eventually stopped at a sprawling park, its vast expanse a welcome change from the city’s hustle and bustle.
“I like it here!” Stella exclaimed, her voice bright with genuine enthusiasm.
Theo nodded, his smile reflecting her happiness. “Great. Just wait here; I’ll grab something,” he said, already getting out of the car, his consideration for her evident.
Stella watched him walk away, his figure a comforting presence against the backdrop of the park’s vibrant green. She observed him enter a nearby convenience store, her eyes following his every move, a sense of ease settling over her.

Brandon slumped onto the couch, his gaze fixed on his phone. Repeated calls to Tyros had gone unanswered, a growing frustration simmering within him. “Where is that guy?” he muttered, his voice laced with impatience. He pushed himself off the couch, the restlessness driving him to action.
He decided to go to Tyros’ house, his hope of finding his friend outweighing his reluctance. Tyros’ sister, Sadine, was tending to the garden, her movements calm and deliberate, a stark contrast to Brandon’s agitated state. “Sadine! Where’s Tyros?” he blurted out, his impatience evident.
Sadine, without looking up, replied, “He’s with Flora,” her voice even and unperturbed.
“Thank you,” Brandon mumbled, already turning towards Flora’s house, his frustration barely contained. He arrived at Flora’s place, but it was Sky who greeted him, his presence unexpected and unwelcome.
“What are you doing here?” Sky’s question was sharp, a challenge rather than an inquiry.
Brandon, his gaze fixed on the ground, responded curtly: “I’m looking for Tyros.”
Sky, unimpressed, replied, “He’s not here,” before turning and walking towards the garden, his indifference palpable.
Brandon, his patience wearing thin, pressed further: “Where are they?”
Sky’s abrupt halt indicated that his casual indifference had finally been broken. Sky’s words hung in the air, a surprising revelation: “Stella called for a double date.” He resumed his task, his nonchalance a stark contrast to Brandon’s internal reaction.
Brandon froze for a moment, the information sinking in. A simple “Thank you,” escaped his lips before he turned and headed back to his own house, his steps heavy with unspoken emotions. He found himself waiting for Daisha, the silence of their home amplifying his loneliness.
Then, a message arrived, shattering the quiet anticipation. Daisha’s message was brief but impactful: she would be away for a couple of days.
The realization hit him hard: he would be alone, Tyros preoccupied with Flora, and the double date a distant prospect. “What should I do now?” he asked himself, his voice barely a whisper as he sank back onto the couch, the weight of solitude pressing down on him.
He pushed himself up, a sudden decision hardening his resolve. A determined nod accompanied a quiet declaration: “I’ll pay them a visit,” he said, his voice regaining its strength as he headed towards the bathroom, the simple act of bathing a prelude to a more decisive action.
Stella, comfortably sprawled on a picnic mat, munched contentedly on chips, the afternoon sun warm on her face. Theo, having unpacked a seemingly endless supply of picnic provisions, watched her with amusement.
“I haven’t seen you around much lately. Where have you been?” Stella asked, her curiosity piqued by his recent absence.
Theo nodded, a thoughtful expression on his face. “You’re right. My father sent me on a mission that took me far from here,” he explained, his voice carrying a hint of weariness.
Stella’s eyes widened in surprise. “What kind of mission?” she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
Theo smiled, a hint of adventure in his eyes. “He wants to expand our land, so he sent me to scout out potential locations,” he revealed, his voice animated as he described his travels.
Stella listened intently, captivated by his story, her earlier casualness replaced by genuine interest.
Just then, the sound of approaching footsteps shattered the quiet intimacy of their conversation. Tyros and Flora appeared, their arrival heralded by the sight of two overflowing picnic baskets.
“We’re here!” Tyros announced, his voice brimming with enthusiasm, effectively ending Stella’s questioning and ushering in a new phase of their afternoon.
Flora’s greeting was warm and friendly: “Nice to see you again, Theo!”
Theo returned the greeting with a smile, his gaze then shifting to Tyros.
Tyros, already unloading the substantial amount of food they had brought, announced, “We brought plenty,” his voice cheerful.
The peaceful atmosphere was shattered by a sudden voice. “It would be nice if you invited me, too,” the words were accompanied by the unexpected appearance of Brandon, who settled down beside Tyros with an easy familiarity. A casual “Hey there!” followed, his smile directed at Tyros, but his presence subtly altering the dynamic of the gathering.
The initial surprise on the faces of Theo and Flora was evident, their earlier relaxed demeanor now tinged with a hint of uncertainty.
