Could it be… that she misunderstood Ethan?
Clara sat on the bed, puzzled and unable to figure it out…
Suddenly, the door swung open.
Startled, Clara jumped up from the bed.
Ethan raised an eyebrow as he looked at Clara’s frightened expression. “Scared?”
Clara blushed. “… No.”
“What were you doing in there? For so long,” Ethan asked.
Clara didn’t dare admit she was looking for traces of other women, so she lied, “I was just using the bathroom.”
Ethan raised an eyebrow. “… For that long?”
It had been at least half an hour.
“Constipated?” Ethan asked.
Clara’s face turned crimson, and she whispered, “… No.”
Ethan nodded and asked, “What should we have for lunch?”
Clara’s face was still flushed as she asked, “Are we going out to eat?”
Ethan replied, “If you want to go out, we can.”
Clara blinked. “Is there a cafeteria?”
Ethan nodded. “There is.”
“Do you want to go to the cafeteria?” Ethan asked.
Clara thought for a moment and shook her head. “I don’t want to.”
She knew that if she went to the company cafeteria with Ethan, they would definitely be watched by everyone.
She didn’t like being the center of attention.
“Then I’ll have them deliver it,” Ethan said.
Clara nodded and hesitantly asked, “Have the secretaries from the secretary’s office gone to lunch?”
Ethan nodded. “Yes.”
Clara breathed a sigh of relief, left the bedroom, opened the office door, and cautiously peeked out, looking around.
She looked like a thief.
Ethan watched Clara with curiosity.
Why was Clara acting like this?
Not seeing anyone or hearing any voices, Clara quickly ran out to the secretary’s office, grabbed her bag, took out a small mirror and lipstick, and quickly applied lipstick to touch up her makeup.
After fixing her makeup, she returned to Ethan’s office with her bag.
Ethan naturally noticed Clara had touched up her makeup.
It was obvious that he had kissed off her lipstick earlier.
But now, her lips were bright and evenly colored.
Seeing Ethan staring at her lips again made Clara blush… What was he looking at? Was he thinking of kissing off her lipstick again?
“… What’s wrong?” Clara asked with a red face.
Ethan shook his head lightly. “Nothing.”
“… Oh.” Clara obediently sat on the sofa, waiting for the food to arrive.
In a few minutes, someone from the cafeteria delivered the food. Clara looked at it… She thought it would be cafeteria food, but it wasn’t… It was two meat dishes, two vegetable dishes, a cold dish, and a soup… very exquisite stir-fried dishes.
It seemed they were specially made for Ethan.
Clara ate with Ethan.
After dinner, Ethan told Clara, “You can rest in the lounge; work starts at two in the afternoon.”
Clara nodded.
She went into the lounge, took off her shoes, got into bed, and fell asleep.
She really wanted to sleep.
Last night she hadn’t slept well due to nerves, and earlier… after some intense activity, she felt exhausted. Lying in bed, she fell asleep within minutes.
When Ethan came in, he saw Clara sleeping soundly.
He also took off his clothes, got into bed, held Clara, and slowly fell asleep.
When Clara woke up, she found herself alone in bed. She blinked; though she hadn’t woken up earlier, she knew Ethan had joined her in bed later.
Where was Ethan?
Clara sat up and checked her phone; her face changed color.
Oh no!
It was already three o’clock.
Ethan had said work started at two.
How did she sleep until now?
Clara hurriedly got up, dressed, went into the bathroom to touch up her makeup again, then opened the lounge door. The office was empty… Ethan wasn’t there either.
Clara breathed a sigh of relief and returned to the secretary’s office.
Only Alayna and Hanna were there in the secretary’s office.
Both greeted Clara politely and respectfully as Madam.
Clara smiled awkwardly and nodded before returning to her workstation.
She looked at Stephanie’s desk.
Stephanie wasn’t there.
“Where’s Stephanie?” Clara asked Alayna.
Alayna smiled and said, “Stephanie went out with Mr. Logan.”
Clara froze for a moment; Stephanie went out with Ethan?
Where did they go?
Could it be they went out for something improper?
Ethan was such a scoundrel.
Could he not stay idle for even a moment?
In the morning he was doing this and that with her in the office; now in the afternoon he took Stephanie out for this and that?
In her heart, Clara angrily cursed Ethan.
Scoundrel.
He’ll die surrounded by women sooner or later.
Stephanie didn’t return for a long time.
It wasn’t until after five in the afternoon that Stephanie came back.
During those two hours… Clara’s mind had already imagined countless scenarios.
Stephanie returned with a smile and greeted Clara. “Madam…”
Clara looked at Stephanie, unsure how to react. She didn’t say anything for a moment.
Stephanie asked in confusion, “Madam, what’s wrong?”
Clara shook her head. “Nothing.”
She felt… she should assert herself as the rightful wife and fiercely question Stephanie about what she’d been doing with Ethan for so long. Had they gone to a hotel? Then she’d curse her as a shameless woman and threaten her not to seduce Ethan again.
But… she didn’t dare.
And she couldn’t do it either.
Currently, everything about Stephanie and Ethan was just her wild speculation without any evidence… What if Stephanie wasn’t involved with Ethan? If she accused Stephanie wrongly, wouldn’t it be embarrassing for both of them?
Moreover… she really wasn’t the type of woman who would point fingers at someone else’s nose and curse them as shameless for seducing her husband.
Her personality wasn’t like that.
If her husband truly cheated on her, she wouldn’t confront the mistress… because it’s not just the mistress’s fault; ultimately, it’s more about the man. If a man isn’t tempted by others outside his marriage, no matter how much someone tries to seduce him from outside, it won’t work.
The fundamental reason lies with the man… The mistress succeeds because the man is inherently unfaithful!
Furthermore… even if Ethan cheated on her, she didn’t have the confidence or power to catch him in the act or anything like that.
She remembered under what circumstances she married Ethan.
If she had dated Ethan properly and married him openly as his wife, then… even if she was far less powerful than Ethan, she’d dare question him about why he cheated on her and why he betrayed her.
But the problem was that she wasn’t…
She married Ethan as a way of redeeming herself for the Everett family.
And Ethan married her as a temporary solution… Ethan didn’t love her; she didn’t love him either… Ethan seemingly had no obligation to be faithful to her.
Clara sighed inwardly; although she understood this reasoning,
But… her heart still felt heavy and uncomfortable… like a large stone pressing down on it, making it hard to breathe.
While Clara was feeling troubled, the desk phone rang.
The sudden ringing startled Clara; she instinctively looked at Alayna and Hanna.
Alayna smiled and said, “Madam, you should answer it; it’s probably Mr. Logan’s internal line.”
Clara picked up the phone. “Hello…”
“Make me a cup of tea,” Ethan said calmly.
Clara: “… Okay.”
Ethan hung up the phone.
Clara put down the phone and got up to make tea for Ethan.
Clara went to the tea room, made tea for Ethan, brought it in, placed it on his desk, and said, “Here’s your tea.”
Ethan nodded lightly. He asked Clara, “What do you want for dinner?”
“Should we eat at home or go out?” Ethan asked.
Clara: “… Let’s eat at home.”
She quite liked the meals prepared by their home cook.
“Alright.” Ethan nodded and didn’t say anything more.
Clara left his office.
Back in the secretary’s office with nothing to do… Clara played on her phone until it was time to leave work.
“It’s time to leave… Madam, we’re heading out first.”
“Goodbye Madam.”
“See you tomorrow Madam.”
The secretaries bid farewell to Clara before leaving work.
Clara tidied up her things. As soon as she walked out of the secretary’s office, she saw Ethan standing there as if waiting for her. Seeing her come out, he said, “Let’s go.”
