After speaking, Clara stared at Ethan, waiting for his reaction.
Ethan looked at Clara. “Heh…” Ethan chuckled lightly. “Do you want to use a child to tie me down?”
Clara blushed, “No, I didn’t.”
She had never had such thoughts.
It was her parents who had such ideas.
“You didn’t?” Ethan raised an eyebrow and asked.
Clara nodded, her face still red, to affirm her resolve: “I really didn’t.”
“So, what do you think?” Ethan asked.
It seemed… he still didn’t know what the young girl was thinking.
What do you think?
Is it very important what you think?
Could it be that Ethan would respect her thoughts just because of what she thought?
She felt it was impossible.
“I just want to live a good life with you,” Clara said.
Ethan had mentioned before that all she needed to do was to be obedient and behave well.
“Not have children?” Ethan asked.
She looked at Ethan with her cheeks flushed. What did Ethan mean by asking this?
“You said… wait until I graduate,” Clara said softly.
Anyway, in her view, this was just Ethan trying to deceive her. Ethan didn’t actually want to have a child with her. By the time she graduates, it’s more than two years away… In two years, who knows if they would still be together.
They might already be divorced.
“Then… did the Everetts not teach you any tricks?” Ethan asked with an amused look, raising an eyebrow.
“… Ah?” Clara looked at him in confusion: “What kind of tricks?”
Ethan: “Naturally, the tricks to get pregnant.”
Her face turned even redder.
How did Ethan guess this?
“They… didn’t,” Clara said, her face still red.
Some things she couldn’t tell Ethan.
What if he got angry?
“I see,” Ethan responded with a meaningful look on his face.
Then he fell silent.
She didn’t know if Ethan believed her or not.
It was really hard for her to be caught between Ethan and the Everett family.
“You… are you planning to take revenge on the Everett family?” Clara timidly asked Ethan.
Ethan looked at Clara.
He was speechless.
She really was stupid.
They had been married for some time now. Didn’t they say that being close to good people makes you good?
Being with someone as smart as him, how could she still be so dim?
“How do you think I should take revenge on the Everett family?” Ethan asked Clara in return, teasing her.
Ask her?
“That… maybe just let it go?” Clara suggested tentatively.
Ethan raised an eyebrow: “Let it go?”
Clara nodded: “Yeah… let it go.”
Ethan looked at Clara coldly: “Do you think I should let it go? Iris cheated on me… should I just let it go? Do you think… I am such a magnanimous person?”
Clara nodded: “Yes, in my mind, you are the most magnanimous and tolerant man.”
Ethan looked at Clara.
The young girl was now starting to flatter him with sweet words.
Did she think he was a man who would be pleased and confused by just a few flattering words from a woman?
He wasn’t some inexperienced rookie.
“I am not,” Ethan said: “I am not a tolerant man.”
Her expression changed, looking at Ethan anxiously. So… Ethan was still planning to take revenge on the Everett family?
Even her sacrifices couldn’t change his mind?
“Actually… my sister has already been punished,” Clara said, not giving up, trying to persuade him again.
No matter how poorly the Everett family treated her, they were still her parents who raised her. She couldn’t just watch them fall apart.
“What kind of punishment has she received?” Ethan asked indifferently.
“My sister is very sad now… she loved you so much…” Clara almost said ‘loved you so much’ but held back… if she really loved him, how could she cheat?
Wasn’t this just rubbing salt in the wound for Ethan?
“She… has been having a hard time recently. In the past, she was your fiancee… all the girls in the circle fawned over her, but now… she’s disdained by the others in the circle… the girls in the circle mock and ridicule her, my sister is always in tears,” Clara said.
Actually… she didn’t really know these things, she was just making them up.
Anyway… the worse she made her sister’s situation sound, the better.
The more miserable her sister was, the happier Ethan would be.
Ethan would probably think, since my sister is already in such a miserable state… maybe he should be magnanimous and let it go.
“Is that so?” Ethan said indifferently: “She brought it upon herself. Have you thought about… what people say behind my back? They say I am just keeping a woman for someone else, they say I am incapable, that I can’t even control my own fiancee. She was mocked and ridiculed, but did I not also suffer?”
Clara: “… Would they dare ridicule you?”
Who in Riverton would dare to ridicule Ethan?
Unless they have a death wish.
He was actually speechless, not knowing how to counter that.
“Hmph…” Ethan sniffed coldly: “In person, they naturally dare not, but behind my back?”
She silently thought… behind his back, people would definitely ridicule Ethan.
“But… do you really have to take revenge on my sister? As the saying goes… ‘one day of marriage is worth a hundred days of kindness.’ A hundred days of marriage…”
Clara was cut off by Ethan.
“Me and her, we were not married,” Ethan said, then paused before adding: “We never slept together. Where did you hear about that one day of marriage?”
Clara was dumbfounded.
Although Clara had been Ethan’s future sister-in-law, her meetings with Ethan were few and far between… she didn’t know much about her sister and Ethan’s relationship… whether they had done anything like that. It was such a private matter, her sister had never mentioned it to her.
She had guessed based on normal logic that they must have been to a hotel.
After all, they were engaged, right?
Nowadays, with the open social norms, men and women can go to a hotel on their first meeting… how much more so for engaged couples?
But… with what Ethan just said…
Clara began to imagine in her mind.
Could it be… because Ethan never went to the hotel with her sister, she couldn’t bear the loneliness and cheated with someone else?
“Why?” Clara asked curiously.
After marrying Ethan, except during her period, almost every day she had to yield to Ethan… his needs were strong.
How did he manage to not have sex with his fiancee for over a year since the engagement?
How did he restrict himself over a year?
She found it a bit hard to believe.
She wondered how could he hold it in for so long when… with her, he couldn’t even hold back his desire for a few days, and even had intimate interactions with her during her period.
“There’s no reason,” Ethan replied indifferently.
How was she supposed to believe that?
“You’re curious?” Ethan asked Clara.
Clara’s face turned red.
Of course, she was curios.
Should she be honest?
The truth was she really was very curious.
But… she decided it was better not to.
She came back to her senses, realizing it felt very awkward to keep asking her husband about the intimate relationship between him and her sister.
Forget it.
She wouldn’t ask anymore.
If she kept asking, Ethan would probably think she was a pervert, interested in such affairs.
“How is your sister doing with Alexander?” Ethan asked.
She looked at Ethan.
Ethan knew about her sister and Alexander…
Thinking about it, it made sense, Ethan had received photos.
“… They’re doing pretty well,” Clara said.
“Hah…” Ethan gave a cold laugh.
Oh no.
She must have said something wrong.
“Actually… they’re not doing very well,” Clara said.
Ethan asked, “How not well?”
How would she know?
She said they were not doing well to comfort Ethan… should she say, my sister and Alexander are very much in love now? Alexander is very good, very loving towards my sister, and also very gentle and considerate, completely different from you, the cold ice man?
If she dared to say that… she might lose her head today.
She was a bit afraid.
