Chapter 63: Good Understanding

Belle was angry.
Clara seemed unresponsive.
Was she really not taking Nora seriously, or was she intentionally pretending not to care in front of her?
And… calling him “my husband” and believing him…
Listening to this… it really made Belle angry.
“Suit yourself,” Belle said. “I’ve already said what I needed to say.”
Clara smiled and said, “I know you’re looking out for me. Thank you.”
Belle glanced at Clara, nodded faintly, and said nothing.
She didn’t want to say anything anymore.
After finishing their meal, Clara went home.
When she arrived home, Ethan hadn’t returned yet.
Clara wanted to ask Ethan something on her mind, so she sent him a WhatsApp message: “What are you doing? Socializing?”
She really just wanted to ask if he was socializing.
But when Ethan received the message, he raised an eyebrow… was she testing him?
Testing if he was fooling around with other women while socializing?
It seemed… the young girl was making progress.
Her understanding was quite strong.
She knew what she should do.
Ethan replied, “I’ll be back soon, not socializing.”
Clara responded with an “Oh.”
Clara went to take a shower and wash her hair. After drying her hair, she was about to go to bed when Ethan returned.
Clara looked at Ethan and smiled, saying, “You’re back.”
Ethan nodded and said, “Hmm.”
Walking over, he asked Clara, “What’s wrong? Afraid I’m fooling around with other women?”
She looked at him in confusion.
What was he talking about?
She never even thought about that.
“You asked me, and since I promised you not to fool around with other women, I will keep my word,” Ethan said.
Clara nodded and said, “Hmm, I believe you.”
She truly believed him.
Ethan had no reason to deceive her.
He could do whatever he wanted, and she couldn’t control or restrict him.
Why would he lie to her?
And… she felt that Ethan seemed like a man who wouldn’t bother lying.
He didn’t bother with lies.
Ethan looked at Clara, and the more he looked, the more well-behaved she seemed.
She was becoming more and more well-behaved.
Obedient and lovable.
Whatever he said, she believed.
The feeling of being trusted… was quite good.
Ethan went to freshen up.
After freshening up, he got into bed.
Clara occasionally glanced at Ethan.
She wanted to ask him about Nora.
But… she was afraid Ethan would get angry.
They say first love is the most beautiful love.
She didn’t know why Nora and Ethan broke up… was Ethan still bothered by it?
What if she asked and it brought up Ethan’s sadness?
But… she was genuinely curious.
If she didn’t know who Ethan’s first love was, it would be fine.
But now that she knew and had even met her, she was genuinely curious.
She couldn’t control her curiosity and desire for gossip.
She really wanted to know.
Ethan put down his phone and turned to Clara. “What’s wrong? Do you have something to say?”
She kept looking at him, sometimes sneakily glancing at him, obviously wanting to say something.
He couldn’t be so self-absorbed as to think Clara was captivated by his handsome appearance.
If she really was captivated by his appearance, she would keep staring at him.
But instead… she would sneakily glance at him from time to time, clearly wanting to say something.
She looked at Ethan and made up her mind. She bit her lip and decided to ask.
If she didn’t ask, she definitely wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight. Maybe not even tomorrow night or the night after that.
If she asked and it made Ethan unhappy, then he could just scold her.
She wasn’t afraid.
Her thick-skinned nature had developed now.
She wasn’t afraid of being scolded anymore.
Nor was she afraid of being reprimanded.
“Nora… was your first love?” Clara asked cautiously.
Ethan looked at Clara.
He knew that sooner or later she would find out.
When he was dating Nora, many people in their circle knew about it. Now that Clara was his wife, someone would eventually tell her about it.
“Hmm,” Ethan nodded lightly in response.
Clara asked and then continued to nervously and carefully watch Ethan’s expressions, trying to infer his mood and attitude from her own facial expressions.
But… she was disappointed.
Ethan’s expression remained calm and indifferent… still wearing that poker face of his.
There was no change or fluctuation whatsoever.
Perhaps there were fluctuations inside his heart that she couldn’t see or understand.
“Why… did you break up?” Clara asked.
Ethan looked at Clara and raised an eyebrow. “Why? Curious?”
Clara originally wanted to shake her head and say that she wasn’t that nosy of a person.
But in reality… she was exactly that nosy person.
It wasn’t jealousy or envy; she just genuinely wanted… to gossip a little bit.
Just like how she gossiped about other people’s relationships with her classmates and friends at school.
Gossiping… was a woman’s nature.
And of course, gossiping about her own husband… was even more irresistible.
Clara followed her heart and honestly nodded. “Hmm.”
Ethan looked at Clara with a cold gaze.
Did she really dare to nod?
Wasn’t she afraid he would twist her head off?
She saw Ethan’s face turn serious and felt a pang of worry in her heart.
Oh no…
Was their breakup unpleasant?
Did Ethan get dumped?
Did she touch upon Ethan’s sadness?
Was Ethan angry?
Was he going to hit or scold her?
Clara regretted it.
Regretted it like crazy in her heart.
She shouldn’t have asked. She shouldn’t have asked.
If she had another chance…
She definitely wouldn’t have asked.
What should she say now to calm Ethan down?
To gain his forgiveness?
While Clara was going crazy with inner monologues, Ethan spoke calmly. “We broke up because we weren’t compatible.”
Clara paused for a moment and looked at Ethan.
Not only was he not angry, but he also answered her question.
So… could she continue asking?
“Why… weren’t you compatible?” Clara asked cautiously.
Ethan looked at Clara. Was this going to be an endless cycle of questions until they both couldn’t sleep tonight?
He didn’t understand women. It was all in the past. Why did they have to be so persistent?
What good did it do to be so persistent?
Was Nora making her feel insecure?
“If we weren’t compatible, then we weren’t compatible. Why do we need so many reasons?” Ethan said. He genuinely believed this.
What kind of answer was this? Wasn’t he just brushing her off?
Ethan looked at Clara with a slightly dissatisfied expression and sighed inwardly.
Forget it.
Since the young girl asked, he might as well tell her everything.
“When I was with Nora, I was eighteen… an adult who should consider adult matters like marriage and having children,” Ethan said.
Clara was stunned.
The CEO started thinking about marriage and having children at eighteen?
The CEO was actually so traditional?
It was really… hard to tell from his appearance alone.
“I have plans for my life. When I graduate, when I join the company, when I achieve certain accomplishments… everything is planned out. As for marriage, my plan was: date at eighteen, date for seven years, get through the seven-year itch, then get married. My wife should have children during her prime years,” Ethan said.
As he said this… she felt that Ethan was like a machine without emotions or feelings.
A person’s life is filled with countless variables.
How could everything be planned out?
Plans can’t keep up with changes.
“At that time… Nora was the most outstanding girl in our circle,” Ethan said.
Clara couldn’t help but say, “I think she still is.”
Maybe she judged people based solely on appearances. She only saw the external beauty of Nora without understanding her character or personality. Nora truly was stunningly beautiful.
With a face like Nora’s, for men, nothing else mattered anymore-character traits or anything else.
Just like how people often joke online: If my wife looked like this, even if my son wasn’t mine, I’d still raise him plump and healthy!
This proves that when a woman’s appearance reaches a certain level, she truly can do whatever she wants and can cover up any flaws in her character or personality.
Ethan gave Clara a cold glance.
Hearing him talk about his exceptional ex-girlfriend, she wasn’t angry or jealous.
