Chapter 57: Selling Second-hand

Book:It All Turns Out Great Published:2025-4-9

He thought Clara had gone shopping.
He knew women loved shopping.
But… he didn’t receive any text messages from the bank.
If she used his credit card as an authorized user, he would receive a notification on his phone. But he didn’t receive any notifications… Could it be that Clara used her own money to make the purchases?
Why wouldn’t she spend his money?
Clara saw Ethan glance at those boxes and wondered… Would Ethan recognize them?
After all, those things were gifts he had given to her sister.
“These…” Clara pointed at those things and nervously said, “Do you… remember?”
Ethan was a little confused.
Remember what?
Why would he remember the things she bought?
“Remember what?” Ethan asked.
Looking at those familiar boxes, did he really have no recollection at all?
“These… are all gifts you gave to my sister,” Clara said.
What nonsense?
He gave gifts to Iris?
Ethan looked at those boxes again.
Sorry, but he didn’t remember at all.
He did give some gifts to Iris, but he had his secretary pick them out for him, and then he gave them directly to Iris… After all, he was very busy with work and didn’t have the time or need to personally select gifts.
“Oh,” Ethan said.
She looked at Ethan.
Just an “oh”? Is that it? No other reaction?
Could he show some reaction?
His behavior made her unsure of what to do.
She didn’t know how to handle these things.
“My sister didn’t want to see these gifts… They remind her of the past, so she asked me to bring them back and return them to you,” Clara said.
Ethan looked at Clara and sneered.
Huh.
What a foolish thing.
Truly foolish.
“If she didn’t want to see them, why not just throw them away… Why did she ask you to bring them back? Have you thought about that?” Ethan asked.
Clara replied, “… to bring them back and return them to you.”
And why is that?
Isn’t it normal for couples who break up to return gifts?
“Heh…” Ethan laughed coldly.
She was a bit flustered.
Ethan’s continuous cold laughter seemed to mock her… But she didn’t know what there was for him to mock.
Was he mocking her for meddling too much?
“She wanted to see… if I would think of her when I saw these gifts… if I would soften…,” Ethan said.
Iris’ little schemes were all exposed in front of his clever self. He saw through them at a glance.
She was stunned for a moment.
Is that really the case?
She never wanted to speculate about her sister with malicious thoughts.
She wanted to believe in her sister.
Believe that her sister was kind, believe that her sister loved her.
Clara bit her lip, feeling a bit down.
She didn’t want to believe what Ethan said, but… deep down, she knew that what Ethan said was probably true.
She had been used by her sister again.
“Be more clever in the future, don’t let her deceive you,” Ethan said.
“… Oh,” Clara replied.
Ethan looked at Clara and didn’t say anything more.
There was no point in saying anything more.
The girl was emotional and attached great importance to the relationship between her and Iris. Maybe Iris had been really good to her before, so she valued Iris so much.
Her words didn’t even register with him.
“What should we do with these?” Clara looked at Ethan and asked.
Ethan glanced at those things and said, “Throw them away.”
Throw them away?
Just like that?
But those things were valuable.
Although they were all used, luxury goods didn’t actually depreciate. In fact, some second-hand luxury items even appreciated in value… Some hard-to-find classic styles were highly sought after in the second-hand market and commanded high prices.
Iris cherished those luxury goods one by one, taking them out and reminiscing over them. Clara had also seen them and they still looked new.
It was clear that Iris cared about the things Ethan gave her and cherished them.
It would be such a waste to just throw them away.
“What?” Ethan looked at Clara’s expression and asked, “You don’t want to throw them away?”
Clara shook her head. “No…”
He was generous to her, giving her an authorized user credit card and letting her spend freely.
But whether it was because she hadn’t seen much of the world or because of her small-town mindset… She couldn’t bring herself to throw away items worth seven figures.
These were all money.
She couldn’t have a problem with money.
How could anyone complain about having too much money?
“But… these things are worth a lot of money,” Clara said.
Ethan looked at Clara. He had a general idea of how Clara was treated in the Everett family.
These things… throwing them away would indeed be difficult for the young girl.
“Up to you,” Ethan said.
Sell them.
Let the girl do as she pleases.
He couldn’t be bothered with arguing with her.
Clara’s eyes lit up as she looked at Ethan. With him saying that, it meant he agreed for her to sell them online as second-hand items.
Clara felt happy.
Just sell them as she pleased.
After dinner, when they returned to the room, Clara unpacked those things and started taking photos of them non-stop. After taking the photos, she posted them on an online marketplace for second-hand items.
These things, especially the handbags, sold well online. They were all limited editions or classic styles that were hard to find. Once Clara listed them, inquiries came pouring in… Clara happily chatted with people online, bargaining and so on…
She enjoyed the conversations.
Selling made her so happy?
Clara originally thought… these things might be difficult to sell because many of them were used and there were no receipts to prove their authenticity. Moreover, she hadn’t priced them cheaply either.
She had done some research online before setting the prices.
She originally thought they would be difficult to sell.
But on that very night, several items were sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It seemed… there were still plenty of wealthy people around.
Ethan looked at Clara, who was delighted, and said, “If your sister found out these things were sold second-hand by you… what do you think she would think?”
Clara paused for a moment.
What would her sister think?
Would she be heartbroken?
Angry?
Upset?
But… her sister said they belonged to Ethan now, and Ethan said he wanted to throw them away… Wouldn’t it be such a waste to throw them away?
“Don’t tell her,” Clara said.
Ethan coldly replied, “Do you think I would go around telling people?”
That meant he wouldn’t tell her sister about it.
Clara breathed a sigh of relief.
“But don’t let it slip from your mouth,” Ethan said.
Clara nodded. “I know.”
She definitely wouldn’t let it slip from her mouth.
Suddenly, Ethan pulled Clara towards him and pressed her beneath him.
What was he doing?
“It’s late…” Ethan’s voice was hoarse as he spoke.
Her face turned red.
It was late at night…
They should… rest now…
“I…” Clara was about to speak but suddenly felt something wasn’t right in her lower abdomen.
She thought of something and forcefully pushed Ethan away, then rushed into the bathroom.
Ethan furrowed his brows as he watched the bathroom. Did she reject him just now?
She went too far.
He had just given her the house, and she already had the courage to say no.
Did she not fear that he might take the house back?
