“You can eat anything, but you can’t say anything without proof. What makes you say I pushed your sister down the stairs?” Of course, Orlaith would never admit it.
“I saw it with my own eyes. It was you. You deliberately pushed my sister down the stairs,” Emily cried.
Orlaith maintained her arrogant demeanor and turned to look at Caleb. Clearly, Orlaith had no intention of taking responsibility and wanted him to handle it.
Caleb, still dreaming of becoming a distinguished son-in-law of the Taylor family, eagerly seized the chance to show his loyalty. He pulled Orlaith behind him, shielding her.
“Emily, do you even understand the law? As Victoria’s immediate family member, you can’t testify in court. I’ve already had the stairwell surveillance footage deleted. If you insist on suing Orlaith, I can testify that Victoria slipped and fell on her own, having nothing to do with Orlaith. Emily, you need to think it through-false accusations have legal consequences.”
“Caleb, are you even a man? My daughter was carrying your child. Now, because of this woman, she had a miscarriage. You don’t seek justice for her and the baby, but instead, you defend this woman,” Charlotte cried weakly. This time, she wasn’t pretending. With Victoria lying nearly lifeless in the hospital room, how could a mother not feel heartbroken?
“The baby’s paternity is still questionable. Even if it were mine, I never wanted her to keep it. I repeatedly told her to abort it, and now it’s been taken care of,” Caleb said coldly and almost mercilessly.
Then, he gently took Orlaith’s hand and said, “Orlaith, since that woman is fine, let’s go home. The hospital isn’t a pleasant place.”
Orlaith nodded, and the two of them left without looking back.
Emily stomped her foot in anger while Charlotte cried until her voice was hoarse. “Caleb, that heartless beast.”
“Mom, what should we do now?” Emily cried.
“What else can we do? We can’t go up against the four great families. Your sister’s fate is tragic,” Charlotte sighed deeply before continuing, “Stop crying, wipe your tears, and let’s go see if your sister has woken up.”
When Charlotte and Emily entered the hospital room, Victoria was already struggling to sit up in bed, her face as pale as a sheet.
“Victoria, do you have a death wish? You just had a miscarriage. How can you sit up?” Charlotte rushed to her side, trying to help her lie down, but Victoria stopped her.
“I can’t breathe lying down. Sitting up is more comfortable,” Victoria said weakly, her voice faint.
Charlotte and Emily surrounded the bed, and the three of them sat in silence.
Victoria’s whole body ached, her long hair damp with sweat. She clutched the bedsheet tightly, enduring the pain, and asked, “Mom, Emily, how did you end up at that hotel? Who told you that Caleb and Orlaith were meeting there?”
Charlotte and Emily looked at each other in confusion.
“Sis, wasn’t it you who sent us the message? You told us that Caleb was cheating, and we should go there first to catch him,” Emily said, showing her phone to Victoria.
Victoria glanced at it. It was indeed her number, but she had never sent such a message. Clearly, someone had hacked her account.
Victoria slumped back against the bed, a cold smile playing on her lips. She knew this was yet another scheme by Isabella.
After she had exposed the scandal about Isabella’s illegitimate child, Isabella had retaliated with this elaborate setup, causing her to lose her baby.
Victoria deeply regretted her previous leniency. When Isabella was still like a fool, easily manipulated, she should have quietly gotten rid of her to eliminate future troubles.
“Sis, why aren’t you saying anything? You look so pale. Are you feeling unwell? I’ll go get the doctor,” Emily said tearfully.
Victoria shot her a cold glance, clearly irritated. But she was too weak to even muster the strength to scold Emily for being a fool.
“Victoria, what’s wrong with you? Don’t just stay silent. Don’t scare me like this,” Charlotte said, her face full of concern.
Victoria took a deep breath and, summoning her strength, said, “Mom, when you received that message, why didn’t you call to verify with me first before rushing to the hotel? We’ve fallen into someone’s trap.”
“What?” Charlotte looked incredulous. “Victoria, who is it? Who wants to harm you? I’ll fight them to the death.”
“Isabella,” Victoria said with a cold smile. “Isabella set me up. Are you willing to fight her? Her backer is Andrew.”
After speaking, Victoria’s eyes fixed mockingly on Emily. “You all know by now, right? That bastard child Isabella had back then is Andrew’s kid. Emily, you sure have skills, pushing her right into Andrew’s bed and into a nest of riches.”
Emily’s face stiffened slightly, and she looked furious. “How was I supposed to know the man in that room was Andrew? If I’d known, I would have gone in myself and wouldn’t have bothered with James.”
“That little bitch Isabella should have died with her sickly mother,” Charlotte said angrily. Then she asked Victoria, “Victoria, what are you going to do now?”
Having held one position for too long, half of Victoria’s body felt stiff. When she moved slightly, her lower abdomen ached terribly.
She gritted her teeth, tears welling up in her eyes. “I’m not going to let her get away with this.”
Victoria clutched her lower abdomen. Her child was gone, and she vowed to make them repay her suffering a hundredfold. Whether it was Isabella or Caleb, she would not let them off.
Her eyes narrowed, and a look of unprecedented malice appeared in her gaze.
After a brief silence, Victoria waved her hand and said, “I’m tired. I want to sleep. You should go back.”
“Sis, how can you be alone in the hospital? I’ll stay with you,” Emily said.
“No need. Get me a professional nurse,” Victoria said weakly.
“A nurse is still an outsider. How can they take care of you properly? I’ll stay,” Charlotte insisted.
“Mom, your health hasn’t been good lately. Staying in the hospital would be too much for you,” Emily said, looking worried.
“I’m fine, but you should go back. Otherwise, your mother-in-law will give you a hard time,” Charlotte sighed.
Emily’s life at the Clark family wasn’t smooth. Since David was suspended, the Clark family had been treating Emily poorly, and Stellan, the coward, wouldn’t stand up for his wife.
Charlotte and Emily argued for a while about who should stay. Victoria, losing patience, snapped, “Go, both of you. Can you stop annoying me?”
After Charlotte and Emily left, Victoria buried her face in the pillow and wept bitterly.
