David and Robert went upstairs together, while Isabella and Lily hurried back to their room and closed the door.
“I was so scared, I almost got caught,” Lily said, patting her chest.
Isabella, however, remained calm and composed as she sat on the edge of the bed, furrowing her elegant eyebrows. “Mrs. Ada and Elowen clearly have the upper hand before Robert’s appearance, Charlotte is likely to be overturned again.”
“Robert is just Charlotte’s cousin; it’s not appropriate for him to meddle in their family affairs,” Ava said, handing Isabella a cup of warm water. She hadn’t even had a chance to drink water since she returned.
Isabella took the cup and drank about half of it, then curled her lips in a mocking smile. “Robert has been in charge of Moonlit Art Inc. for many years, and there have undoubtedly been financial and power transactions between him and David. He must have a lot of leverage in his hands, so Elowen probably won’t stir up much trouble this time.”
As she finished speaking, footsteps could be heard faintly in the corridor.
Lily pressed her ear against the door, waiting until the corridor fell silent before opening the door and peering out, then she said to Isabella, “Mr. David and Robert have gone downstairs.”
Subsequently, Isabella and Lily walked out of the room again, hiding in the concealed corner of the staircase to watch the commotion downstairs.
No one knew what Robert had said to David.
After they returned to the living room, David helplessly said to Mrs. Ada, “Let’s send Elowen back; it’s not appropriate for her to stay.”
After speaking, he tossed a bank card onto the table. Obviously, it was compensation for Elowen.
Elowen looked up at him, shocked, bewildered, and even disbelieving. She couldn’t understand why, if he was reluctant to let her go, he would talk to an unrelated man for a few words and then want to send her away as soon as he turned around.
Even if Elowen had some means, she was ultimately from a small place with limited horizons. Naturally, she wouldn’t understand that for a man of David’s class, status and future were far more important than romance.
Mrs. Ada held the card in her hand, speechless, with an expression of unwillingness on her face.
Elowen cried and threw herself into Mrs. Ada’s arms. “Auntie, I can’t take care of you anymore. Please take care of yourself. For Aria’s sake, please take care of your health. Don’t get angry all the time; it’s not good for your heart.”
She cried as if it were a farewell to life, and Mrs. Ada’s eyes were red.
After she finished crying, she went to David’s side again, took one of his hands, looked at him affectionately through tear-filled eyes, and choked out, “Cousin, I don’t want to go back… I will never leave you even if I die…”
Then, to everyone’s surprise, Elowen suddenly let go of David’s hand and rushed towards the opposite wall.
By the time David realized what was happening, it was too late to stop her.
Elowen’s head hit the wall, causing a large gash on her forehead, blood streaming down her face, and her body fell softly to the ground.
Everyone was stunned, including Isabella, who was watching from the shadows.
She thought to herself: Indeed, when a woman takes action against herself, she must be ruthless. With this one collision, Elowen had paved herself a way out.
After sighing, Isabella subconsciously took out her phone to call for emergency assistance. However, before she could dial, she saw David picking up Elowen and running quickly toward the villa’s exit.
Mrs. Ada followed behind them, crying and shouting, “Elowen, why would you do such a thing? As long as I’m alive, no one can drive you out…”
In the living room, only Charlotte and Emily were left jumping with anger, while Robert frowned in contemplation.
“Robert, look at this fox! she’s bewitched your brother-in-law!” Charlotte said angrily.
Robert remained silent with pursed lips. In his opinion, in the world of flowers, where beautiful women were plentiful, whether a man would be tempted depended not on the women outside but on how much self-control the man had.
And David himself was a man with a history of infidelity. If he could cheat with other women, he could cheat on you, and there was simply no question of any self-control.
“Dear cousin, this Elowen is not an ordinary person. You should think about yourself,” he said before walking away in silence.
As Robert passed the staircase landing, he subconsciously turned back and happened to see a vague figure at the corner.
He stopped and watched for a while, his gaze tinged with a hint of fondness. Then, he sighed and left.
With no more excitement to watch, Isabella and Lily also returned to their room.
“It looks like Elowen isn’t going anywhere. We’ll have plenty of entertainment to watch in the future,” Lily said gleefully.
Isabella nodded in agreement. “When Victoria comes back, it will be a match between her and Elowen. Things will get even more interesting.”
Victoria had been shooting charity films in Africa recently to improve her image. If she were here, Charlotte probably wouldn’t have suffered such a big loss. When she returned, the real drama would unfold.
Isabella felt that continuing to stay at the Harris family’s mansion was a waste of time. She’d rather go home and spend time with her son.
She grabbed her bag and coat, about to leave, when she received a call from Olivia.
“Isabella, you’re back in Ithaca town, right? Come over to my place,” Olivia said.
Isabella hesitated for a moment before replying, “Can you pretend I haven’t come back yet?”
“Can I pretend my company doesn’t have you as an artist?” Olivia retorted.
Isabella sighed. “I’ll be there in half an hour.”
She left the Harris family’s mansion and drove straight to Olivia’s apartment.
“What’s the matter for calling me over?” Isabella asked after entering Olivia’s home, immediately lying down on Olivia’s lazy sofa and rummaging through the snacks in the drawer beneath the coffee table.
“Isabella, although you hold the title of Best Actress, I don’t think you’ll have much breakthrough in acting. Starting to gradually transition to music might lead to a longer-lasting career. Besides, you’ll eventually get married and have children. Making music isn’t as demanding as acting, so you can balance family life,” Olivia explained.
“Okay,” She agreed, finding Olivia’s words reasonable.
