Lily smiled and said, “Emily, the bird’s nest porridge today is particularly good. Please taste it, see if it suits your taste.”
Emily impatiently glared at her.
Taking the porridge and a spoon, Emily had a sip. The temperature was just right, and the taste was perfect. She nodded in satisfaction and drank it slowly.
Although the porridge tasted good, her appetite was poor. She reluctantly drank about half a bowl and then asked Lily to take it away.
“Go to the kitchen and see if there’s any dried apricot or sour plum. Bring a few packs for me,” Emily said.
Lily nodded and obediently left.
Lying lazily on the bed, Emily held her phone, hesitating whether to call James or not. It had been over a week since they last met. If she didn’t initiate contact, he wouldn’t even make a call or send a message, always using the excuse of being too busy with work.
Despite maintaining a strong front in front of others, Emily always felt uncertain about this renewed relationship. Fortunately, she now had James’ child; this child was like a lifeline, bound to tie her and him together.
As Emily’s palm gently touched her flat belly, the door was pushed open once again.
She subconsciously thought it was Lily, and shouted dissatisfied: “Lily, you don’t want this job anymore, do you? You can still be so lazy with a bag of pickled plums.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a pack of sour plums was smashed on the bed. Emily was looking down at her phone, very dissatisfied with the smash, “Do you want to fucking die…”
But her words got stuck in her throat when she looked up and saw Charlotte frowning at the bedside.
“Mom, why didn’t you say anything when coming in?” She immediately changed her tone, lazily saying. Then, she picked up one of the sour plums scattered on the bed, unwrapped it, and popped it into her mouth.
The sour-sweet taste suppressed the nausea, making her feel much better.
“Why suddenly crave sour plums? Emily, aren’t you…” Charlotte saw Emily’s appearance and understood everything.
“Just over a month,” Emily answered bluntly. It wasn’t her first time having a pregnancy before marriage, so it wasn’t a big deal to her.
Charlotte wasn’t surprised either; she felt it was the right time for this child to come. She was just worried about her daughter suffering from the pregnancy symptoms. “You’ve been vomiting for several days now. Why is this reaction so strong? You didn’t have this last time.”
“This time it’s James’ child, and last time was Jason’s. How could it be the same?” Emily said indifferently.
Charlotte quickly covered her mouth, “Don’t speak carelessly. Never mention these things in front of James in the future.”
“I know, I’m not stupid.” Emily pushed away Charlotte’s hand with some disdain.
“Remember, I’ve remembered everything. Mom, don’t nag me, I’m annoyed,” she said, and just as she finished, the phone in her hand suddenly vibrated several times. Emily picked it up and found an anonymous multimedia message.
Emily glanced at it, her face instantly turning very unpleasant. The next moment, she jumped up from the bed in a rush.
Charlotte, watching her hurriedly put on a coat, asked anxiously, “What’s wrong?”
“Mom, I have something to do. Don’t bother,” Emily said impatiently before rushing out. She was going to catch someone cheating, and it was unnecessary for her mother to know, otherwise, she would have to listen to her nagging again.
Someone sent her several anonymous multimedia messages, containing several pictures. Each picture depicted moments of James and Isabella together, looking very intimate. The photos not only showed the time they were taken but also revealed the name of the restaurant they were in.
Emily didn’t know who was meddling in her affairs by sending her these, but after seeing them, there was no way she would sit idly by.
She was still carrying James’ child inside her, and he was actually getting involved with that despicable Isabella. How dare he try to infuriate her like this!
Emily’s car sped swiftly along the flat road. She followed the navigation and arrived at the Western restaurant where James and Isabella had their date. She burst in with a murderous air about her.
She scanned around the restaurant but didn’t spot them. Of course, Isabella was an actress, a public figure, and wouldn’t be stealing someone else’s man in broad daylight.
“Miss, do you have a reservation? Or may I assist you in arranging a seat?” A waiter hurriedly followed behind Emily.
“I’m looking for someone,” Emily said coldly, “Where’s the private room?”
“It’s, it’s upstairs,” the waiter replied nervously.
Emily pushed past her and quickly made her way upstairs. Spotting a door to a private room, she reached out and pushed it open, only to find Isabella and James sitting inside.
The private room wasn’t large but was decorated with a special touch. A long table was adorned with burning candlesticks, alongside an exquisite decanter containing red wine that seemed to exude a rich aroma. Surrounding the candlesticks were numerous beautifully arranged plates, holding an array of delicacies. What a romantic candlelit dinner.
Glancing at the two seated at the table, James was wearing a very formal suit, and Isabella donned a long skirt, his favorite pure white color and style. This despicable woman seemed intent on seducing James.
Emily’s eyes lit up with rage, almost wanting to rush over and tear Isabella’s dress apart.
