Sally
I never thought my life would spiral out of control like this. I never imagined I’d be begging for my life, my voice shaking with desperation. Despite its ups and downs, I had grown accustomed to living.
Lately, things had started to look up – Allison and I had become inseparable, and I had developed even more feelings for Colby. Even my coach had given me a second chance after I had abandoned the team.
But now, all of that seemed insignificant. Harry’s menacing grip on my arm brought me back to reality.
“Wow, Sally,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm, “I’m impressed. So, you can speak after all? Shit! And I wanted to see how well you would make those mute sounds while I fuck you.”
I just sobbed, wishing that I had never known him.
“So, you really know how to talk, don’t you?” he suddenly asked, and when I saw a glimpse of his still surprised-looking face, I bit my bottom lip.
Furthermore, I remained silent, my heart racing with fear. Harry’s fingers tightened around my arm, his nails digging into my skin.
“Answer me!” he growled. “Do you really know how to talk?”
I frantically nodded my head, my eyes welling up with tears. I knew that one wrong move could seal my fate.
“Speak!” Harry’s voice was low and menacing, his grip on my arm tightening like a vice. “I want to hear that voice again.”
I swallowed hard, my voice trembling as I begged, “Please, please, I can speak. Don’t do anything to me.” My eyes were fixed on Harry’s, pleading for mercy.
Just then, a holler pierced the air from behind me. I couldn’t risk glancing back, fearing that any sudden movement would send me tumbling off the rooftop. The building seemed to stretch up to the sky, its height making my stomach lurch with vertigo.
But I knew that scream. It was a sound that was etched into my memory, a sound that made my heart skip a beat. It was Colby’s voice, his tone laced with desperation and fear.
“Don’t you dare touch her!” His voice rang out, his words echoing off the rooftop.
“Isn’t she lovely, your boyfriend?” Harry sneered, his eyes glinting with malice.
The crowd below seemed to swell, their voices a distant hum that filled my ears. But I didn’t dare turn around, my focus fixed on Harry’s twisted grin.
“Sally, are you alright?” Colby’s voice was closer now, his words laced with concern.
I shook my head, my eyes welling up with tears. I was far from alright. I was trapped, with no escape in sight.
“Stay calm, I’ll try to settle this with Harry,” he said, his voice reassuring.
I nodded, whispering a ‘please hurry’ as I gazed up at Harry’s twisted grin.
Colby stepped forward, his hands raised in a calming gesture. “Calm down, Harry. You don’t want to do this. Let her go, and let’s settle this between us as friends.”
Harry’s laughter sent a chill down my spine. “You call us friends? After everything that’s happened between us? You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Colby’s expression remained calm, but his voice took on a hint of urgency. “Calm down, Harry. She shouldn’t be in this mess. It’s between us, right?”
“No! This is between me, you, and her,” Harry yelled, causing my body to twitch. “And what about your sister? What’s she doing here?”
My eyes widened as I saw Yvonne approaching, her eyes fixed on me with a mixture of surprise and accusation.
I trembled, my heart racing with fear. Did she hear my voice? Does she know that I could talk too?
Yvonne’s voice rose as she demanded, “What’s going on here? I don’t understand what’s really happening?” She glared at me, her eyes blazing with anger.
“Hey, Sally,” she spat, “Can you really talk? Have you been lying to us all this while?”
As Yvonne’s face loomed closer, I saw the phone in her hand, the camera lens staring at me like an unblinking eye. She was videoing me, capturing my every moment.
I blinked my eyes, wondering what she was doing. “Come on, speak!” Yvonne screamed, her voice inches from my face. “Speak, you dumb bitch!”
“Not now, Yvonne. Please!” Colby yelled.
“I’m fine…” I whispered, my voice trailing off as I turned to Yvonne, and swallowed hard, fear gripping my throat.
“I’m sorry,” I stammered, “I’m really sorry.”
Yvonne’s expression twisted in triumph. “Good,” she sneered. ‘I’m going to post this video soon. Make sure you get out of here alive.’ Her words dripped with malice.
But before I could process what was happening, Yvonne stepped back and grabbed a metal rod from the side. With a swift motion, she slashed it across Harry’s head, sending him crashing to the ground. He lost consciousness instantly.
I was stunned, my heart racing with fear. But as I looked at Harry’s numb body, I realized I was free.
Yvonne raised the rod, ready to strike Harry’s face again, but I quickly stood up and grabbed her arm. “No, don’t! Please, he’s already unconscious. Thanks for saving me.”
She turned to me, a mixture of surprise and annoyance on her face. “I don’t need your thanks,” she said, “But I really wish you’d apologize to you for deceiving us all.” She scoffed and turned to leave.
Colby turned to me, his eyes filled with concern. “Are you alright?” he asked, scanning me from head to toe for any signs of injury.
I nodded, still shaking with fear. He quickly wrapped his arms around me, trying to comfort me. “It’s fine, it’s fine,” he whispered.
But before he could continue, I burst out crying, my body wracked with sobs. “I was so scared,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “I thought something would happen to me…”
As Colby carried me downstairs, the crowd around us grew thicker, their voices buzzing with excitement and curiosity. Some people were videoing us, while others were asking questions.
“Can she really talk?” someone asked.
“Why was Harry trying to push her off?” another person chimed in.
“What happened up there,” a third person said. “Were you fighting on your sister’s behalf? What did Harry do?”
The questions swirled around us, but Colby ignored them, his focus on getting me to safety.
When he couldn’t hold their nasty talks anymore, he screamed at them in criticism. “You guys didn’t even go up to save her. You just kept watching and videoing her. You’re sick.”
Then, he led me to his place, sat me down on the couch, and said, “Let me get you some water to drink.”
I nodded, and watched him leave to the kitchen.
As I sat there, I heard a beep from my phone. I checked the screen to see a message from Yvonne. My heart sank as I read her words:
“You’d better apologize publicly, because I’m posting this video right now. I’ll make sure to ruin your reputation so thoroughly that you’ll be unrecognizable. And if I find out that Colby knew about your deception all along, there will be consequences – and trust me, you won’t like them.”
Immediately I stood up, and left the room quietly.
