An uneasy day

I woke up to an uneasy feeling that morning, tossing and turning in bed. Nina, who seemed to be on high alert, noticed my restlessness and sat up from her own bed.
“Hey, what’s wrong with you?” she asked, concern etched on her face.
I feigned nonchalance. “What do you mean?”
Nina raised an eyebrow. “I’ve been noticing you since last night. You’ve been acting weird. What’s going on?”
I swallowed hard, my eyes drifting downward as I sat up in bed.
“I need your help, Nina.”
“Go on. What’s up?” she replied, her face turning serious.
I hesitated before confessing. “Yesterday… I had sex with a guy.”
“Wait!” she gasped. “Did you finally get your introvert ass a boyfriend?”
I laughed, rolling my eyes. “Can you just listen to me first?”
“Fine, let’s hear you,” Nina nodded.
“Uhm, so, I had sex with this guy and he actually came inside me”
“What?” She exclaimed, her eyes widening. “What happened? Is he an amateur or what?”
“Hell no,” I hollered, shaking my head vigorously. “I’m telling you, this dude isn’t an amateur.”
“Then, what happened, girl?” she demanded, her brows furrowing. “Did he think he was probably fucking your ass or something?”
“Gosh, Nina! Can you just hear me out first?” I laughed, shaking my head in amusement.
For the umpteenth time, I wondered how I’d ended up with her as my roommate. She’d changed so much because the last time I remembered, the girl wasn’t even half something like this before.
“Go on,” she beckoned.
“Okay, so… I know it was reckless, but I… I just couldn’t resist him. I was lost in the moment,” I sighed, and bit the side of my lip. “But now I’m freaking out. What if I get pregnant or…?”
My voice trailed off, anxiety knotting my stomach.
Nina winked at me and said, “Don’t worry, girl, I’ve got you.” I watched her, curious, as she opened her drawer and began rummaging through it. Her long nails clicked against the wood, making a faint scratching sound.
I raised an eyebrow, wondering what she was looking for.
Finally, she pulled out a small, partially empty pill packet and opened it, revealing a few remaining emergency contraceptive pills.
The nearly empty container suggested that Nina had been relying on these pills pretty heavily. It seemed to confirm my suspicions: Nina had become even more adventurous or wild than I remembered.
Nina shook her head, a mixture of amusement and concern on her face. “You’re lucky I still got these,” she said, handing me a pill. “Take this. It’s an emergency contraceptive. It’ll help, since… you know, last night.”
I took the pill, my eyes wide with anxiety. “What if I’m already pregnant?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “Gosh. I’ve never allowed a guy to come inside me before.”
“We’ll cross that bridge later,” she retorted. “Just take the pill, and we’ll check again in a few weeks, okay?”
I nodded, feeling a mix of relief and fear. “No way, I’m not pregnant,” I said, trying to convince myself.
After taking the medicine, I waited while Nina prepared breakfast. Since it was a Saturday, we didn’t have classes, and the aroma of sweet, savory food filled our room. Nina was an exceptional cook, and I’d often joked that her boyfriends were drawn to her culinary skills as much as her charming personality.
Once Nina finished cooking, she dished out the food and handed me a plate. As we ate, Nina broke the silence. “So, are you going to tell me about the guy?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
I nearly choked on my food, caught off guard by her direct question.
She quickly handed me a cup of water, and I took a sip, relieved. “Thanks,” I muttered, setting the cup down.
Nina leaned back, a nonchalant expression on her face. “If you want to tell me, fine. If not, no problem. You can also tell me when you wish to.”
“I know,” I nodded.
“So, who is it?” she asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice. “Well, like I said before, you can tell me if you want. Don’t mind my curiosity. You know I’m just like this.”
I sighed, knowing I couldn’t avoid the question forever. Although, I didn’t even know how much to reveal.
“He’s someone you might not know though,” I replied.
“I can’t believe you’ve finally got a boyfriend!” she giggled, her eyes crinkling as she smiled widely.
I rolled my eyes, feeling a flush rise to my cheeks. “I wouldn’t call him my boyfriend,” I replied, trying to downplay the situation.
Nina’s eyes narrowed, her voice taking on a teasing tone. “So, he’s like a… sex partner or something? You know what I mean, fuck mate? Bed buddy?”
I rolled my eyes again, feeling a bit embarrassed. “Yeah, something like that.”
“Wow!” she muttered, shaking her head. “At this point, you might even outgrow me.”
“Never!” I snapped, and we both laughed.
Nina and I continued eating, but she couldn’t resist asking more questions. “So, does this guy have a girlfriend?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
I choked on my food again, and Nina quickly handed me the cup of water.
“Oh my goodness, you get so anxious easily!” she exclaimed, laughing. “I guess he might really have a girlfriend.”
I glared at her, feeling embarrassed. “Nina, stop it!”
But Nina was relentless. “Oh my God, this is getting so exciting! Do I know the guy? Do I know the girlfriend? Tell me, please!”
I shook my head, pushing my chair back. “No, you don’t need to know everything. I’m just going to stop here.”
She just chuckled.
“I think I should go out, you know, walk around or something like that,” I told her. “It’s not like I’m furniture.”
Then, I walked out of the room, leaving Nina looking frustrated but also excited.
As I stepped outside, my phone beeped with an incoming message. I checked it to see a text from Jayden: “Last night was amazing. I’d love to see you more. I really cherish everything about you!”
I couldn’t help but smile at the sweet message.
Just then, I looked up to see Yvonne standing in front of me. My heart skipped a beat. How did she just appear here? And hope she knows nothing about last night.
