Jayden
Allison suddenly snapped her hand away from mine and pushed me back, her eyes letting out even more tears. She turned and ran off without looking back, leaving me standing there, confused and concerned.
I wanted to chase after her, but my anger got the better of me. Who could do this to her? I had to find out. I knew Allison wouldn’t tell me anything; she had already made that clear.
As I stood there, people began to stare and whisper to each other, pointing at the running Allison. I approached two girls from her class who were chatting and giggling. When they saw me walking towards them, their eyes lit up, and they exchanged excited whispers.
“Wow, he’s handsome,” one of them said, barely above a whisper.
“I know, right? Wait, is he coming closer to us?!” the other girl squealed.
I ignored their comments and asked, “Hey, do you girls probably know what happened to Allison?”
The girls exchanged a nervous glance before one of them spoke up, “I-I think it was Yvonne. I saw her arguing with Allison earlier today.”
My eyes narrowed, and I felt a surge of anger. Yvonne! I was going to find out what really happened.
“Thank you,” I winked at the girls who giggled immaturely.
Then, I ran to the court where Yvonne usually hung out, sometimes practicing, but she wasn’t there. I quickly dialed her number, and she answered.
“Where are you right now?” I demanded.
Yvonne hesitated before responding, “I’m quite busy, Jayden. I’ll talk to you later.”
But I wasn’t having it. “Where the heck are you, Yvonne?” I pressed.
She sighed before revealing, “I’m in the dressing room.”
“I’m coming immediately,” I warned, already sprinting towards the dressing room.
As I approached the entrance, I caught sight of Sally and Yvonne inside. Maybe that was why she said she was busy. I noticed Sally’s face was twisted in anger, and she was signing furiously to Yvonne.
Thankfully, I understood what she was saying because I had learned sign language in Spain while staying with my aunt. I had friends who were mute, and learning sign language allowed me to communicate with them flawlessly.
“What did you do to my sister?” she had signed.
“Leave here already, Sally,” Yvonne snarled, brushing her off while tilting her head. “I’m expecting someone.”
But Sally wouldn’t back down. She grabbed Yvonne’s hand and signed again, her gestures fierce. “Why did you hit my sister? What’s wrong with you?”
I decided to wait there, hiding behind the corner as I watched the exchange between the two girls. Yvonne tried to shake Sally off, but she held firm, her anger and concern for her sister evident in her signs.
I remained still, observing the confrontation unfold before me.
“You can’t even talk,” Yvonne sneered at her. “So why should I tell you anything? Geez! Why do I even understand these stupid signs?”
Sally’s face contorted in anger, and she signed fiercely again, “I know you’ve been telling Mr. Ian to kick me off the cheerleading team, and you also told my sister to tell me to leave the team, didn’t you? Why can’t you tell me all these to my face? Scared of me? Afraid I would take your teeth out like I did to that pervert.”
I had already heard about the pervert who had secretly placed cameras in their dressing room. When the girls found out who was responsible, everyone knew who Sally was that day because she beat the man without remorse. The funny thing is, the man was actually their cheer coach until Mr. Ian took over his position.
That’s probably why the other girls are somewhat scared of her.
“Fuck off! You know what, fine!” Yvonne laughed. “Forget it!”
I’ll tell you to your face. You should leave the team, Sally. You’re useless since you can’t even cheer with that lame mouth of yours.”
Sally’s eyes welled up with tears, but she held her ground. I could see the pain and anger in her eyes, and I felt a surge of rage towards Yvonne.
Sally signed, “You’re useless too. Remember the day you lost to me?”
Yvonne’s face turned red with rage. She slapped Sally hard across the face, retorting, “How dare you?! Do you think I’m scared of you?!”
Just as I was about to intervene, Sally pulled her hair back and unleashed a flurry of slaps on Yvonne. She screamed and stumbled backward, falling to the ground.
As Sally stood over her, Yvonne had no choice but to beg for mercy. It wasn’t like she had any other option, but Sally kept slapping her across the face, leaving no spot untouched. I smirked in satisfaction as blood ran down Yvonne’s nostrils, and bruises began to form on her face.
“Please, I’m sorry! Please stop! Please.”
Sally’s face was already a mask of fury, and she signed, “If you ever come near my sister or me again, I’ll kill you. It’s a promise.”
With that, she stormed away, her eyes blazing with anger. As she passed me, our eyes met, but she ignored me and kept walking.
I was still standing there, stunned by the intensity of the confrontation.
Just then, Yvonne finally spotted me standing by the corner, and she crawled over, crying loudly. “Did you see that? Did you see the way she hit me?” she wailed.
I remained silent, my expression unyielding. Yvonne’s tears and pleas for sympathy didn’t move me.
“I hope you recorded that?” she asked, her voice crazily loud. “At least, everyone should see that she’s a monster.”
“She’s not a monster, Yvonne,” I warned, my eyes turning red. “Mind you, it’s my sister you’re talking about here.”
“Fine! But why didn’t you come save me?” she demanded, her voice rising. “You saw her hitting me, didn’t you?”
“She was right to hit you,” I whispered.
Yvonne’s eyes widened in shock. “Aren’t you supposed to be supporting me right now? I’m your girlfriend, aren’t I?” she asked, shaking her head.
I looked down at her, my eyes cold. “Sally simply avenged her sister. You shouldn’t have touched her since you know how sensitive Sally is.”
She simply swallowed hard, not saying a word.
Then, I bent down, my face inches from hers. “Now, let me make one thing clear: don’t ever touch Allison again. If you do, that day you won’t even have the mouth or even hands and legs to cheer.”
Yvonne blinked, fear flickering in her eyes. I straightened up and walked away, leaving her shaken and tearful.
