Callie shook her head, a bit helpless. “Wasn’t the flight delayed? Why are you still here?”
“What kind of question is that?” Nick walked straight into the villa, saying, “I missed Grape. Can’t I come to see her? But you, taking the child to such a place, that’s just reckless.”
“What should I have done? Left her at home? That would have wasted your effort in setting the final venue in Switzerland.” Callie half-joked, following him inside.
Nick took her bag from her. “What nonsense have those little brats been saying now?”
Callie didn’t expose his thoughts, pushing open the door. Everywhere she looked, there were Grape’s toys, with the multiplication table hanging on the wall standing out.
“Who memorized this?”
“Could it be me?” Callie was both helpless and proud.
Grape flapped her arms. “Uncle, I did!”
“Don’t exaggerate. Grape is just over a year old and hasn’t even weaned off milk yet. You had her memorize the multiplication table?” Nick was incredulous, pinching the child’s cheek.
Callie leaned against the table, pouring a glass of water to soothe her dry throat. “She was interested, so I let her play with it.”
She was actually surprised by Grape’s talent in mathematics. Grape’s sensitivity to numbers always reminded her of someone.
Nick hadn’t visited for three months, and Grape clung to him, playing for an hour before finally succumbing to sleepiness.
After settling the child, Nick looked up to find Callie also asleep on the sofa. He picked up a blanket and carefully walked over to cover her, but she suddenly opened her eyes.
Callie had always been a light sleeper. She sat up. “Sorry, I was a bit tired.”
Nick sat down beside her with a laugh. “I thought after working together for over two years, you wouldn’t be too polite to me.”
Callie realized belatedly. “Has it really been over two years?”
“Two years and three months,” Nick said deliberately.
“Time flies. I still remember what you said to me when I first arrived in Switzerland.” Callie half-closed her eyes. “Within three years, you must expand Chang Group’s market overseas.”
Nick’s eyes were full of admiration. “You did it in just a year and a half. And eight of those months, you were pregnant.”
Callie smiled, recalling the chaotic times with mixed feelings. Those days were exhausting, but she couldn’t stop herself. If she did, too many unnecessary memories would resurface, and it would hurt too much.
“Without you, Chang Group wouldn’t be where it is today.”
“I should be thanking you for giving me the toughest tasks during my hardest times, keeping me from collapsing.”
Chang Group’s headquarters were in Anbusea. When she first arrived in Switzerland, Nick’s call followed immediately: “Miss Marsh, you’re quite the celebrity, delaying your start date without a word. Is that appropriate?”
Callie frowned instantly. “Sorry, I’m already in Switzerland. I’m afraid I can’t…”
Nick cut her off, almost gritting his teeth. “Switzerland, huh? Do you still want to join our company?”
“Of course I do, but…”
“Then it’s settled. All overseas matters are yours.”
Even though Callie was now Chang Group’s design director, thinking back to those early days, she still felt like Nick had treated her as cheap labor!
Callie stood up. “I’m tired. I’m going to take a nap.”
“Hey…”
“If I keep talking to you, I might start sympathizing with capitalists. Better not.” Callie smiled confidently and freely.
Nick shook his head with a laugh, looking at her lovingly.
