The drive was short and sweet, and he hadn’t let go of my hand since we got in the truck.
“Drive-thru?”. He asked.
I shrugged. “Do we have time to eat inside?”.
“We’ve always got time babe”. He brought my hand to his lips placing a kiss on my knuckles.
I liked the touchy feely, the closeness we shared. It had been a while since we had spent any real time together. Sure, we lived in the same house and shared the same bed but to spend real time together without anyone else hardly ever happened.
There was always someone somewhere interrupting. I didn’t mind it but sometimes I wanted him all to myself.
“You good to go?”.
“Yeah”. I smiled.
Hand in hand we walked inside. It wasn’t overly busy, and Jake had already spotted an empty table and was pulling me towards it.
“Do you know what you want?”. He asked.
The smell alone was making my stomach growl. I wanted everything. “I’m going to look over the menu. I think I want a combo meal”.
He nodded as he followed my movements and got to his feet. Slipping his arm around my shoulder we both searched through the menu.
“I think I want a burrito instead”. I pushed my lips. “Yeah, the chipotle ranch grilled chicken and a Pepsi”.
“Chicken nachos?”. He grinned.
“Oh, yeah and get extra nacho cheese”.
Jake went to place our order and pay while I headed back to our table. I took my phone from my pocket and checked through my messages. Alanna wanted a night out, my gran wanted to make sure Chinese was good for tonight but the one that caught my attention the most was from Charlotte.
She wanted me to come over for tea tomorrow. Jake’s gran was visiting, and she wanted to see me. She wasn’t in town much and I had only met her than one time and don’t get me wrong she was nice to me, sweet and kind but something deep down told me she was coming for something.
There was a reason behind her visit, and I had a feeling it might be me. Or I was completely over thinking everything like I always do, and she just wanted to visit.
“Are you okay?”. Jake asked placing the tray of food on the table before sitting down.
“Yeah”. I nodded. “Do you know your grans coming to visit?”.
“Did my mom tell you?”.
“She sent me a text inviting me over for tea”.
“Don’t be nervous”. He frowned. “You’ve met her before, and she likes you”.
I wasn’t nervous, was I?
“I’m not”. I took my food starting with a drink of my Pepsi. “She’s not coming just to see me, is she?”.
“No idea”. He shrugged.
“Why would she be coming to visit me?”.
“Cause you’re marrying her favorite grandson”. He grinned.
Rolling my eyes I took a bite of my burrito. “I’m not nervous but things like this make me nervous. It’s all I’ll think about all day”. Yes, I was that type of person.
“She probably just wants to know why we’ve not set a date yet”.
A date? I didn’t even have a ring. Marriage would come eventually but not now, not yet, not when everything was falling into place nicely. I wanted a career first before I even thought about walking down any aisle.
“Leah”. He reached over placing his hand on mine. “I’m joking she’ll be coming to visit my mom just like she always does. Stop worrying so much over nothing”.
“Haha”. I made a face.
He knew what I was like, I freaked out easily and the mention of dates and rings was going to send me over the edge. Don’t get me wrong I couldn’t wait to marry him but not right now.
“Chill out and eat your food”. He winked.
