77. The Darkness & The Evil Wolves

Caire’s POV
As soon as Danny left, I dragged myself to the bedroom, desperate to lie down. I was exhausted-not just physically but mentally, thanks to everything happening between me, Ethan, and Lucy Torrance.
Honestly? If Lucy wanted the Luna position so badly, she could have it. I wasn’t about to stand in her way. Even though I loved Ethan, I never actually wanted that title.
I collapsed onto the bed, even though I probably shouldn’t be using it. Ever since I found out I was pregnant, I’d been feeling drained all the time. Was it because I was carrying an Alpha’s child?
Eh, whatever. It didn’t matter. Ethan might never acknowledge this baby, but I’d still raise it as my own-my only family in this world. No doubts. No second thoughts.
My eyelids grew heavier until sleep pulled me under. I had no idea how long I was out.
When I finally opened my eyes, the room was pitch black. Not a single flicker of light.
That wasn’t right. Even though we were deep in the woods, the place should’ve been well-lit, especially with Ethan’s Wolf Warriors stationed everywhere to guard me. Plus, Danny was supposed to be here, keeping watch.
“I’m glad you’re awake.”
The familiar voice made me freeze.
I sat up quickly, my eyes darting around, struggling to see through the darkness. Where the hell was everyone? Where were Danny and the others?
“If you’re looking for your friends, don’t bother,” the voice continued. “They’re all downstairs… fast asleep.”
“W-What?”
“Relax. I didn’t kill them. Just a little chemical trick to knock them out. I didn’t want anyone interrupting my conversation with my dear niece.”
I frowned. Niece?
The way he said it was annoying as hell, but I knew exactly who stood before me.
Christopher Gale.
A name I never wanted to hear, yet he always managed to slither his way into my life.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked coldly.
“Didn’t I just say? I came to check in on my precious niece,” he replied smoothly.
“If that’s all you wanted, then why the hell go through all this trouble?”
My question made him laugh-loud, sharp, and mocking.
What the hell? If he could laugh so freely, that meant… something was very wrong. Shouldn’t someone have heard him by now?
No. This wasn’t just a coincidence.
Ethan had told me before-Christopher Gale was an Alpha who did whatever the hell he wanted. No guilt. No hesitation. No regard for rank or reason. If he decided to kill, he’d do it. Just like that.
“What do you want?” I demanded.
Christopher chuckled again, his amusement only growing. He was enjoying this.
“I have to say, you catch on quickly,” he mused. “Very well. Since you asked, I’ll be direct with you.”
I clenched my fists. This felt like a setup.
“Now, will you cooperate peacefully,” he continued, “or should I just start slaughtering every single person here?”
My stomach dropped.
No. No way. There was no way I’d let him do that.
“You’re really relentless when you want something, huh?” I gritted out.
“I do my best,” he replied, smirking.
“Then let’s cut the crap. I’ll hear you out, but not at the cost of innocent lives,” I stated firmly.
This was a stupid decision. Reckless. But what choice did I have? If I didn’t play along, the Warriors here would be dead before sunrise.
“Do you really want to talk here?” he asked. “Or shall we go somewhere more… private?”
My inner wolf screamed danger. But I couldn’t fight him. Not only was Christopher Gale absurdly strong, but I could sense them-wolves lurking in the shadows, surrounding us. Ready to strike the moment he so much as lifted a finger.
“… Fine. Lead the way,” I conceded.
Christopher wasted no time, stepping forward and guiding me through the darkness.
As we stepped out of the room, my foot landed in something thick and wet.
A metallic, sickly scent filled my nose. Blood.
I knew instantly-it belonged to the Silver Fire Pack’s Warriors.
My stomach twisted as we descended the stairs. More bodies lay scattered across the wooden floor. Blood pooled beneath them, the air thick with the scent of death.
“You said you wouldn’t hurt them!” I snapped, halting in my tracks.
Christopher gave me an innocent look. “They attacked first. I had to defend myself. This was the most efficient way.”
Liar.
I knew he was lying, yet I still followed him like an idiot.
Damn it.
“Now, shall we hurry? I’d rather not linger in this mess,” he said casually.
I wanted to scream. I wanted to fight back.
But I couldn’t.
Because even through the blood and bodies, I could still sense it-some of them were still alive.
Because of that, I immediately followed him to leave this place. Ignoring that maybe I could still escape, stalling for time, until Ethan came and helped me. However, I certainly coul
dn’t do that, because besides it taking too long, I was afraid that they would kill the remaining people.
Christopher Gale led me through the front door, where a car was waiting for us. With full confidence, he opened the door, invited me to come in and sit down first, then he followed me.
“You don’t need to be that angry, because I still have some people left alive in this place so they can say to Ethan Randall that you are with me, your uncle.”
“If you really were my uncle, then you would have behaved yourself when you tried to meet me. Instead of killing those who have been looking after me all this time.”
“I did it because they stopped me, did I do something wrong?”
“Of course you have made a mistake. And I will never be willing to call you my uncle.” I said, confirming that this was indeed the truth.
