Ethan’s POV
I felt a whole lot better seeing her get into the car. Even though I didn’t go with her, it was a relief to watch her willingly get into the car driven by my Warrior. Much better than when she left the mansion on foot, with no clue where she was heading.
Plus, I’m glad she didn’t try to hide her pregnancy from me, she tell everyting and let me know about her feeling about that baby. Her simple admission that she didn’t want to build a family with me made sense, considering I’ve been a jerk.
“Alpha, I heard Lady Halle is heading to Lake Terara to calm down.” One of my warrior tell me after he had the report.
Lake Terara? That’s a bit far from the packhouse, but it’s alright since that area is guarded by Gilbert, the Gamma. No need to worry about her safety.
“Tell Gill I’ll pick her up before sundown if she refuses to come back to the mansion.”
“I will, Alpha,” the Warrior replied.
All my Warriors have special communication devices-kind of like a mindlink in a gadget form that only Warriors and Guards can use on a shared frequency, and I can easily access them.
“Also, Lady Torrance asked you to attend the meeting in the FV district office area.”
“I’ll head there now. Tell her I’ll be there in twenty minutes.” Honestly, I really didn’t want to go to the meeting Lucy scheduled for me. I just wanted to lie down, sleep, and bury myself in a cozy blanket while hugging my baby growing inside her.
“Twenty minutes?” The Warrior looked doubtful, knowing Lucy would probably be waiting impatiently.
“I saw some snacks you can bring to the cabin at Lake Terara. She’s got a good appetite right now, so get a car ready to deliver all the food I’m about to buy,” I said, excited.
Seeing Claire regain her appetite got me pumped, thinking about what she might eat next. Even if it’s not much, at least it’ll help her feel better since our baby needs it more than anything.
“A-Alpha, maybe you should wait in the car and let us take care of the shopping,” a Warrior suggested. Of course, I refused.
From crepes to cotton candy, popcorn, grilled corn, sausages, barbecues, burgers, pizza, various pasta, and pickles-I bought it all. Almost no food shop escaped my visit, including the bakeries in the area.
People were staring and whispering, wondering if it was really me, but it was all pretty amusing.
“They’ve only seen you in a few emergency broadcasts, Alpha. It’s their first time seeing you in person,” Danny said, startling me with his sudden appearance.
“Did Lucy send you here?”
I’m asking because, as far as I know, Lucy is the type of person who will do anything to achieve her goals. Sending someone to drag me into her ambitions is one of the methods she often uses.
He nodded. “It’s been nearly twenty minutes. You should go, and I’ll take over.”
Nearly twenty minutes? Time flies when you’re shopping, but Lucy’s wrath isn’t something to risk, so I had to see her.
“Alright then,” I decided. “Head to the cafe and buy everything on the menu.”
“Is that all?”
“If you spot anything interesting and tasty, get it as well. I’m not stopping you,” I said, handing Danny a card.
With that, Danny left, and I grabbed a croissant, heading to the car that would take me to the meeting.
This is so frustrating. The pack’s doing well enough with the money I’ve made from dealing drugs and other shady business. Why do I still need to partner with other packs for bilateral business?
Honestly, if I could refuse, I’d turn it all down-no exceptions.
Once I arrived, I saw Lucy standing there waiting, giving me a death glare like she wanted to eat me alive.
“Having fun with her?”
“Don’t ruin my mood today. I’m meeting our clients all cheerful,” I said, munching on the croissant.
“Testing my patience again?”
“What am I doing besides eating?”
“You’re shameless.”
“How does eating a croissant from a little bakery make me shameless?”
“Since yesterday, you’ve been trying to make me mad. Do you love her so much that you don’t care about what I’ve done for this pack?” Her eyes shot daggers at me.
I stopped in my tracks, stared at her from a distance, enough to make her enraged. “Can you not give me a hard time, even for a moment?”
“What have I done now?”
I could hear Lucy click her tongue, clearly annoyed but saying nothing. She just glared at me like she wanted to snap.
“Let’s get this job done and over with,” she said, storming past me.
This turned out to be more entertaining than I thought. Or maybe it’s just another problem leading to an even bigger one. But for now, I don’t care. I just want to finish my work and head to Terara to see if Claire ate all the food I bought for her or not.
Yeah, I hope she eats it all, even if it’s just a bit, because it makes me happy knowing she enjoys it. No biggie if it’s only a little.
I followed Lucy into the meeting room, but just before the door, I spotted Chen Lien standing in a corner. I had to walk over to him.
Leaning against the wall, I tried to chat with Chen Lien casually, but he seemed in a rush.
Yeah, guess it’s true, since I gave him a task, and now he’s back with a curious look.
“What do you want to say now?” I asked, annoyed.
He looked frustrated. “Have you told Claire everything?”
“She’s carrying my baby.”
“You’re putting her in more danger.”
“Now what?”
“Christopher Gale has sent more people to find Claire. They’ll arrive in twenty-four hours. If you succeed, take Claire as far away as you can.”
I sighed. “I’ll wrap up the meeting quickly. Go to Lake Terara; she’s there,” I said before heading into the meeting room.
