Ethan’s POV
“What did you say? What are you getting at?” I asked them fow what they saying.
Andara smiled. There was nothing sinister in her manner or speech. I recognized that, but hearing her speak about things I didn’t understand, why should I trust her?
“You don’t have to believe me, Alpha. However, you should know that Lady Halle’s mental state worsens day by day. When she came to me today, there was no happiness on her face. Even when I told her she was pregnant, it was as if she wanted to terminate the child-”
I was furious, but as I moved toward Andara to throttle her, Oscar stepped between us, preventing me from doing anything.
“What do you mean by ‘terminate’?” I growled. I demanded answers for all the words they said to me.
“A Luna like Lady Halle wouldn’t think to argue with your fiancee, Lady Torrance, who is the daughter of an Alpha from the Western territories. I don’t recommend such a course either, but if Lady Torrance learns of this before you do, the worst-case scenario could be that your only heir might disappear.”
“What kind of scoundrel doesn’t tell me this first and informs you instead?!” I cursed.
No. It wasn’t like I was cursing at them. It felt like I was disappointed in myself for not knowing what had happened to Claire and letting it remain that way.
I sighed, rubbed my face, and apologized to them. Yes, I apologized. Something I almost never do in front of anyone for anything, but now I was doing it.
And it made both Andara and Octa smile, the kind of smile from elders that felt really annoying.
“We all know that Andara Spectra is one of the healers and was recognized as the Elder in the Moon Fall Pack for decades. But after the fall of Jacob Wensiker, who was replaced by the brutality of Christopher Gale, Andara remained a powerful healer, even though she relinquished her position as one of the Elders. So, after seeing Lady Halle’s condition deteriorating daily, I brought her to Andara,” Octa explained to me. And that’s why he took Claire to the forest today? So, they preferred to let someone else check on Claire’s condition rather than the doctors or healers at our packhouse?
Huh, amazing. Don’t these people think that our Pack isn’t safe for such information?
“I want to give you some advice, Alpha,” Andara spoke again amidst the silence, with a smile full of disbelief. “Don’t let Lady Halle stay in the same residence as Lady Torrance because, after all, they-”
“This isn’t common knowledge. I’ll handle it myself,” I cut off their conversation. I was indeed upset with Claire and the old Octa for acting on their own, for not telling me about the pregnancy, and choosing to let someone from a group that has been my enemy for over a decade know about her condition first. This is utterly insane.
But, I can’t blame Andara and her group either. This is my own fault for not being sensitive to her condition from the start. I should have noticed how she lost her appetite, how she lost weight, and how she continuously sulked, locking herself in her room, never arguing back.
So, she did all that because she was pregnant with my child? Am I insane?! Yeah, I think I am!
“If you still want the throne of the Moon Fall Pack, that child will be very useful, Alpha Ethan,” her words stopped me in my tracks.
I turned back to look at them. Their expressions were very serious. I know Andara Spectra doesn’t favor Christopher Gale’s bloody era of leadership. However, given her current status as a Rogue Wolf, Andara should stop interfering in other Packs’ affairs, especially the one she left voluntarily.
“We all know that Christopher Gale’s desire to kill Lady Halle is because he doesn’t want any of Jacob Wensiker’s descendants to live. And if Lady Halle successfully gives birth to that child, with your blood running through its veins, it will strengthen Jacob Wensiker’s lineage. With that power, you won’t miss any chance to seize the entire Moon Fall Pack, Alpha Ethan.”
That explanation was very tempting for me. However, taking something I shouldn’t have would certainly make Claire hate me even more.
So, I didn’t respond to that remark at all and immediately walked away from those people. Only, Octa didn’t chase after me right away. He stayed there with them until a few minutes after I started walking, then Octa began to follow me.
When I arrived at the mansion, I looked towards Claire’s room, but I couldn’t enter, knowing Lucy was constantly watching me, and I couldn’t keep putting Claire in a difficult position.
Therefore, I went straight to my room and found Lucy sitting and reading a book on the bed. Initially, there was no conversation between us. She seemed very engrossed in her book, but when I climbed onto the bed, Lucy closed the book and turned her attention to me.
“Why did you come to this room? Isn’t your Luna back?”
“I’m tired, Lucy. Can you not start a fight?” I tried to avoid a quarrel and lay down.
“I guess you really care for her, choosing not to argue with me about her position in this Pack.” Lucy continued to provoke.
I felt a surge of anger, but I chose to remain silent and listen. I realized that if I left this room and abandoned her, it would worsen Claire’s position in the Pack.
Indeed. Since I brought Claire into this packhouse, her position has been disadvantageous. With me as her Alpha and Claire as my fated mate, it feels like I’m letting Claire be slowly torn apart by the female wolves who hate her.
Yeah, this isn’t a fair rivalry, considering Lucy is the daughter of an Alpha, even if not from the strongest and biggest Pack, while Claire is a ‘nobody,’ making their situation dire.
