She eats very little. Since we returned from the Philippines, she seems much quieter than before. Is it because she’s still thinking about what I said, about explaining everything to her after a week?
Honestly, I didn’t want to say this, but seeing her like this, I feel like I have no choice. But of all the things I’ve learned, one thing still baffles me-the bodies of the orphans and the nuns.
Because, of all the bodies that should have been there, only Sister Maria’s remained. She was the nun killed by the Shadow Warrior back then. Nothing else was left.
“What are you thinking about?” Chen Lien snapped me out of my reverie. “Has something happened?”
“It’s about Claire,” I said.
“What’s wrong with her now?” he looked worried.
Of course, Chen Lien would be worried. The last time I remember, he declared that he liked Claire right in front of me. And because of that, he never strayed too far from this place, just to make sure Claire was still okay in my hands.
This is crazy. Does he think I would put my own mate in danger? In my own hands? Oh, damn! Is it because I once said I might even kill anyone, including my mate if they interfered with my goals? This is unbelievable.
“Can you persuade her to eat more? Her appetite hasn’t been good lately.
“Did something happen between you two in the Philippines?” Here it comes. He’s starting to interrogate me.
“Only one thing happened. Christopher Gale wouldn’t leave her alone.”
“That bastard, what else does he want after all this?” Chen Lien cursed.
“You know what they want,” I said.
Of course, that’s a given. There’s no way Chen Lien doesn’t know what Christopher Gale wants by staying around Claire after he knows Claire is with me.
“So, what’s bothering you this much?”
“Do you remember when I said her family was slaughtered by Christopher Gale’s Shadow Warrior?”
“Of course. That’s the worst part of someone using the Shadow Warrior to kill people who have nothing to do with the Pack’s conflict.”
Chen Lien is right. As we know, the Shadow Warrior is a group of shadow soldiers only owned by The Moon Fall Pack to handle significant conflicts and serious issues that happen to their Alpha. But when the Shadow Warriors do such things to people who have no connection to any of them, it’s considered a war crime.
However, the Alpha in that area doesn’t want to pursue anything regarding the deaths of the nuns and orphans. Even if they wanted to, their strength isn’t much better than a Pack with a smaller territory.
That’s why everything seems so unfair. And what still keeps me thinking hard to this day is that their bodies remain unfound anywhere in the corners of the dormitory and church.
“I want you to help me find those people, the orphans and nuns who were Claire’s family while living in that dormitory.”
Damn, bastard. Instead of agreeing to my order, he laughed, laughing at me so loudly that tears came out because he couldn’t hold back the tickling feeling he felt.
Seeing Chen Lien’s behaviour because of his question made me feel annoyed.
“What are you laughing at?” I asked, glaring at him.
“After all this time, you’re just realizing that?”
“What are you actually saying?”
“There are no bodies there. It seems they’ve secured the bodies, or maybe… there were never any other bodies besides that nun?” he said, giving me another riddle.
I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. I felt like the dumbest person I’ve ever met in my own life.
“Where are they?” I asked.
“The Moon Fall Pack, maybe.”
“What might she do if Claire finds out about this?”
“Blame you for not telling the truth about this, and I think she might hate you.”
“That sounds like I’m skinning myself just for honesty,” I said, but Chen Lien just shrugged as if he didn’t want to know anything about the possibilities Claire would give that man.
“You really have to tell her all this, and add a little spice to make it sound dramatic, because I think Claire isn’t a fool who will accept your shallow explanation without objection.”
“Why do you make everything sound so difficult?” I grumbled, rubbing my face.
“Because I want you to know how terrifying Claire’s anger can be, and at that moment, maybe I can easily step in and take over everything.”
“Oh, sure… go ahead.”
“Hahaha… of course, I will do that.”
This bastard. Not only arrogant but also very annoying. He once said he wanted Claire for himself. But I didn’t expect that statement to still hold true until now.
Moreover, it’s true that Claire might get angry, but that anger won’t be as great as the disappointment that arises when she finds out that the family she thought was dead is actually still alive and somewhere unknown.
“But are they really safe in Christopher Gale’s hands?” I asked, glancing at Chen Lien, who now had a blank expression. The laughter and smile on his face had disappeared, and he no longer showed any amusement when he played with me again.
A sigh was heard, and he shook his head, indicating that he wasn’t sure of what he knew.
“The information I got only goes that far. I’m also afraid that their presence in that Pack will only become a problem when Christopher Gale no longer has a reason to pull Claire into his hands. They might be killed there soon,” he explained.
This is really bad. I’m a man who washes my hands with blood more often than anyone else. Still, I didn’t expect there to be someone far more terrifying than myself who not only washes his hands with blood but also bathes in it.
“I want you to bring everyone you can work with, whom you trust, and who dares to take risks without waiting for my orders,” I said, then threw the phone Chen Lien had given me earlier. He caught it perfectly.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Find out if they’re okay there.”
