The Doctor’s appointment

Mary Davies
The doctor wanted to know if the father of my child was aware of the baby, I told him he was aware even though I was not sure. But definitely Hawk might have heard about it, there was no way he wouldn’t have found out. But coming to think of it, he didn’t mention anything about the baby in his mails and packaged box, maybe he was pretending.
“There is going to be risk, I don’t think it’s okay to anticipate a safe delivery.” The doctor’s mouth twitched and he sighed heavily, fingering his mustache as if the words were as painful to say, the same way it is painful to hear.
I stared at him blankly, blinking my eyes repeatedly.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked impatiently.
“What risk is that?” Vanessa asked, moving closer to hold my hands. She hasn’t said a word since the doctor started his job. The only thing she did was introduce the doctor to me as the family doctor.
I was dressed in a hospital gown Vanessa gave to me. I sat up in my bed, resting my head against the headboard. My pregnancy will be a complete three months in two days time, and that means I might start showing. I will have to go for an ultrasound soon, I know I can’t avoid going to the hospital for this. I rubbed my temples soothingly.
“Mary is still a teenager and we know teenagers who are pregnant have a higher risk of getting high blood pressure, which is called the pregnancy induced hypertension. They also have a higher risk of preeclampsia. And this is a dangerous medical condition that can combine high blood pressure with excess protein in the urine.”
“It can disrupt the unborn baby’s growth, which can lead to premature birth.”
“Is that all?” I asked, with an eyebrow raised.
“No, I have some suspicions which I am not sure of yet, Mrs Davies. You know I’m always straight forward, I don’t hide anything from my patient, I tell them everything I discover without mincing words, so they can prepare their minds for whatever happens.” The doctor said, facing Vanessa who nodded her head in agreement.
“Yes, that’s true.” Vanessa replied.
“I think my patient here as an ectopic pregnancy.” The doctor said looking at me this time.
“You will have to come to the hospital next week, I will fix a date for you before this week ends.”
I sat up, with my face hardening up. I wasn’t sure if he was referring to tubal pregnancy.
“Is it the same with Tubal pregnancy?” I asked in confusion as I rubbed my belly.
“Yes, It is not medically proved yet, but your baby might be growing outside your womb.”
I heard Vanessa gasp. I just rolled my eyes, it wasn’t medically affirmed, yet he was trying to give me an attack. I don’t like this doctor one bit.
“I am just laying down the risk for you, think about it and discuss with the father,”
The doctor got up and left the room, Vanessa followed behind. But I remained on my bed, my life is just getting more complicated. Why does something like this have to happen, after making the decision to keep the baby, now I have to do my best to keep both of us from danger. I really hope I don’t have a tubal pregnancy.

It was twelve pm already, I don’t want to get late to Aminat’s house, since I will be meeting her parents today. She already texted her address to me and I was very sure I could locate it, G- maps was there to assist me anyway. I walked out of my room but I paused on hearing Black pink’s song booming round the hallway. It seems to be coming from Juliet’s room. Juliet is a fan of Black pink. She literally made me fall in love with them.
“Oh wait till I do what I do. Hit you with that ddu -du ddu -du du
Ah yeah, ah yeah. Hit you with that ddu -du ddu -du du. Ah yeah, ah yeah. Dudu dududu.” I sang as I walked towards her room. The door was locked, but I could hear the music coming from it.
“What you gonna do, when I come… come through with that..” I sang along. I placed my ears close to the door, asides the song playing, I could hear voices. Two voices, which simply means someone was inside the room with her, suddenly I heard the door knob twist, I immediately hurried away from the door and pretended I was on a call.
The door opened, the music also stopped. Juliet stepped out of her room, flipping her hair to the sides. She hissed loudly immediately our gaze met. Mikhail stepped out too, I wasn’t shocked to see him, after seeing what they both did at the party.
“You can hang around Mikhail, It’s my turn to pick up my dad’s medications today.”
“I will be back soon.” Juliet said kissing him on the lips. I could not help but wonder if dad was sick. I thought it was only Vanessa that had health issues. Is dad hiding something from me.
Mikhail moved away without even sparing me a glance, I walked back to my room, ignoring him totally.
I have no idea why Mikhail was still sticking up with Juliet. It was obvious he doesn’t like her, or was he after her money. I just feel there is something up with him, he must be hiding something. I picked up my backpack and stuffed some books into it. I will have to take a taxi to the slum area.
I stepped out of my room, making sure to close it. Since Mikhail was still around, I don’t want him to walk into my room when I’m not here.
